Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

the militia goonies who came to the rescue of Cliven Bundy (you remember him, he's the conservative hero who likes to talk about "the Negro") are acting like our own little home-grown Gestapo:

"Concerns are growing about members of the militia surrounding rancher Cliven Bundy.

Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford, sent a letter to Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie about the safety of residents in the Bunkerville area. Horsford says his constituents have "expressed concern" over the presence of armed militia groups from out of state.

According to Horsford, his constituents say the militia have set up checkpoints where residents must prove they live in the area before they are allowed to pass and have set up a "persistent presence" along federal highways, and state and county roads.

They also claim some have established an armed presence in the community. Horsford told the sheriff that the militia are making people feel unsafe.'

Cliven Bundy’s Militias Now Terrorizing Small Town With Armed Checkpoints

Citizen militias or armed thugs? What are they protecting? Their right to act out their sick fantasies of starting a new civil war or their right to show America and the world what a fascistic mob looks like?

These are the sort of folks who bellow about their "FREEDOMS" being taken away by the evil government and the "blah" who lives in their White House. And here they are, the protectors of our freedoms, stopping American citizens from freely moving about their own town.  It's interesting, though, isn't it.  Give these armed yahoos the opportunity to "protect" a right, and see how quickly it turns into 1939.

Did I miss something or is Bunkerville the newest location for a Coen Brothers' film?

The Swash Zone's (O)CT(O)PUS left this comment on the thread below. It is relevant to this post , and I'm posting it here. Thank you, (O)CT(O)PUS for bring this to our attention:

THIS STORY did not receive the media attention it deserved, and almost no mention within our respective blogging communities. I mention it here because this incident is becoming all too commonplace – with very dark and disturbing implications. Briefly:

“A gun control activist group called Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, or MDA for short, held a membership meeting at the Blue Mesa Grill in Dallas, Texas on Saturday. Not a protest or a public rally, just a meeting over some Tex-Mex and beverages. Harmless enough. A group of moms, activated by last year’s gun massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, gathered to discuss ways to boost membership and popular support for gun control legislation.

Oh, and did I mention there were only four MDA members in the meeting? Yes, four moms who were gathered at a luncheon were confronted by 40 gunmen brandishing AR-style assault rifles."

Here is an ANOTHER ACCOUNT of the same story:

“The sudden appearance of about 40 armed men outside a Dallas-area restaurant this weekend was the latest confrontation between an open-carry gun-rights group and a mothers group advocating gun control that was meeting inside. Chris Barton, the CFO of Blue Mesa Grill, said that the manager called 911 at 11:35 a.m., shortly after the armed group arrived. "When the manager called, he told them (the police dispatcher) what was going on," Barton said. "They said that if they are having a peaceful demonstration, they are within their legal rights."

Now consider the actions of Oathkeepers and other lawless militias terrorizing a ranching community in Nevada. Same tactic, different controversy.

Is this the dystopian future of America wrought by new Open Carry laws? Any controversy in any village or town across the land settled by armed hoodlums and thugs?

Democracy via bullying and intimidation, democracy by brinksmanship at the barrel of a gun, democracy via insurgency and insurrection? This not democracy but a form of neo-fascism wrought by extremists and sanctioned by the NRA.

This is not the kind of future I want for my family and future generations.

Boy I am sure glad I don't live in Nevada...instead I am safe and sound here in Wisco...where the Republicans want to secede from the Hew Hes Hay...via Cognitive Dissonace FYI

oh boy.

This is a total mess... Those folks are not from Nevada and most of us want them to go home and terrorize someone else...

okjimm, I haven't got the email you said you were going to send, y'know about bloggin'?

And thanks for the link. Glad to hear you're doing well! Yay okjimm!

Dave, what is happening out there that makes these armed folks believe they have to protect others from?

Dave Miller said...

Shaw... I think it is some type of complex... the gov split and the people, who normally conservatives should have the final say, want these outsiders out.

Also, most of the other ranchers in the area, who have paid their fees all along, want Bundy dealt with.

The folks from outside the state, who are agenda driven and urging armed rebellion are the real problem here.

Last I looked, we beat that attitude back in the 1800's. It was seditious then, and it is now.

Seriously, there are armed guards at churches. Even the Mormon church has run afoul of these clowns because they do not allow firearms on their property.

Whoever thought those guys would be on the side of Progressive wisdom.

armed thugs? those would be your broonz. i won't be disappointed to see the broonz spank those nogoodniks from quebec.

bundy? he's senile in my opinion but there aren't many sane messiahs that the gun nuts can relate to.

billy, I don't like to talk about The Habs on the night of the game. It's too nerve wracking! But I am sitting here wearing my Zdeno Chara tee-shirt.

It's always been a great rivalry.

Dave Miller: "Seriously, there are armed guards at churches. Even the Mormon church has run afoul of these clowns because they do not allow firearms on their property."

None of this has anything to do with protecting rights, it's about intimidation with firearms because they can.

"A growing number of Bunkerville residents want to see the armed militiamen guarding rancher Cliven Bundy leave Nevada, according to a letter from Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., to Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie.

Horsford, whose congressional district includes Bunkerville, wrote that his constituents are concerned about Bundy supporters carrying weapons near local churches, schools and elsewhere.

Militia members flocked to Nevada to support Bundy in his fight with the government over his refusal to pay fees for his cattle to graze on federal land.

“I urge you to investigate these reports and to work with local leaders to ensure that their concerns are addressed in a manner that allows the community to move forward without incident,” Horsford wrote to Gillespie.

"The letter also says militiamen have a presence on state and local roads as well as federal highways. In some areas, according to the letter, militiamen have set up checkpoints where drivers are stopped and asked to provide a proof of residency."

They’ve been seen carrying high-caliber weapons and keep a round-the-clock security detail on Bundy.

Many of the militiamen, attracted by Bundy’s views on state’s rights and public lands, traveled from across the country to support him in his stand against the Bureau of Land Management.

Bundy owes the BLM $1 million in grazing fees. Earlier this month, the agency called off a roundup of Bundy’s cattle after escalating tensions between federal agents and militia members.

Maybe it's time for blacks, latinos, asians, and native americans to practice the second amendment. Ya know like the black panthers did. These militias would have no problem with non-whites supporting the constitution and the words of the founding fathers. Amirite?

Dave Miller said...

Now these idiots are saying the DOD is going to send Drones and missiles on the ranch... And this is not a group of extremists?

Dave Miller said...

In a sign of real courage, our esteemed Jr Senator Dean Heller, who earlier call Bundy and his minions has now decided he was wrong about that and that Bundy should pay his BLM fees.

Too bad he did not seek out a public forum to do so as he did with his patriot remarks... Priceless...

"...and note you well: here in America, you can point a high-powered
rifle at federal officers and get off scot-free with your gun still in
your hand."

Not if you're a Black Panther or a Native American."

Cliven Bundy is an assclown and a distraction from real issues but I am glad the Feds didn't pull another Waco. If they had, Bundy would be martyr, now he just looks like an insignificant old bigot.

Gawd, these Bundy crazies are having the time of their lives, aren't they? They get to drive out to the middle of nowhere and LARP the Turner Diaries until they're winded (five minutes of brisk walking, in other words).

I beg, beg on my fucking knees, the federal government to drag this bucket of shit to Lexington for another twenty years of free stuff from Uncle Sugar - delivered right to his cell.

I tend to be less strident with my comments, but I agree with you. I can think of a few reasons why these ararchists should be locked up:

Disturbing the Peace.
Unlawful blocking of public roads.
Impersonation of law enforcement and/or public officials.
Hindering the peaceful entrance and egress of citizens.

Guns or no guns, we must have law and order, or else civilization will quickly unravel. Time to bring in the riot police. This has gone too far.

shit. I need a beer.

Regarding the Turner Diaries... that is the book Timothy McVeigh read that inspired him to bomb the Oklahoma City federal building... because he thought the government would respond by confiscating all civilian firearms and that would cause all the White people to rise up and start a race war and overthrow the government (which is what happens in the book).

Are these militias trying to spark a confrontation with federal agents in hopes of accomplishing what Tim McVeigh's actions did not? Now we have an N-word president, after all (unlike when TM committed his terrorist act).

I think at least some of these militia types were disappointed there wasn't any violence that resulted in lives lost during the initial confrontation (and the Feds backed down). It's possible there may be violence yet... what does everyone else think?

Looks like they're going to alienate potential supporters.

"Maryland gun store owner Andy Raymond reversed his decision to sell the nation’s first smart gun on Thursday after receiving online death threats from gun-rights activists protesting the technological milestone as a encroachment on the Second Amendment.

Raymond, the co-owner of Engage Armament, had called the decision to sell the Armatix iP1 handgun a “really tough decision” after similar attacks against California’s Oak Tree Gun Club recently forced the store to back away from its association with the new smart gun."

They have been whipped into a frenzy.

Of course the gun nuts would fear smart guns. How can one be a real strutting gun toting dude when his weapon is smarter than he?

Stupid things Conservatives say said...

We are at war with these people who are destroying our way of life."
