APRIL'S FOOLS

And the winnah for today, April 1, is:

Let's hear it for the free press. And public shaming.

So many fools in today's TeaPublican Party, but only one day to feature them? Hell, give them the entire month, it still won't be enough.

TeaGOP: churning out fools faster than a sausage factory in the heart of PigLand.

We ponder the reaction of HobbyLobby, etc, should a scruffy
bearded fellow with twelve apostles speaking love should
show up in the craft section.

A month isn't long enough to report on fools like this:

if you're gay and in Indiana, don't call Memories Pizzeria in Walkerton: They won't help you make your wedding memories. The owners of the family-run business say it will refuse to serve slices to gay or lesbian weddings, joining a chorus of those who cite opposition to marriage equality in support of their state's controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Crystal O'Connor, who runs the business, told local news outlet ABC57, "If a gay couple came in and wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no," because it was not reflective of their Christian values.

In doing so, O'Connor insisted such a move would not be an act of discrimination, as many critics of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act have argued. "I do not think it's targeting gays," she said. "I don't think it's discrimination. It's supposed to help people that have a religious belief."

O'Connor's father, Kevin, also appeared in ABC's report telling the reporter being gay is a choice. "Why should I be beat over the head to go along with something they choose?"

Being an a**hole is also a choice, but I'll bet Mr. O'Connor isn't denied any services in anti-A**hole states.

They don't thinks they are fools. They thinks the rest is.

Post for a year and still the posts will be plentiful, as they are coming from their side this way.

Point and counterpoint. Check and Check. There never will be a Checkmate.

Nor does it appear America wants one. They are enjoying the scuffles entirely too much.

Everybody wants to win and nobody wants to give ground.

It's good to be older...

We've anticipated for some time that even "moderate" Presidential candidates like Jeb, needing to propitiate the teabagger base, would be forced into taking stances that would damage them for the general election. This is the first major incident to do that, and it won't be the last.

The election is still 19 months away, but indeed, we won't forget. Our job and the party's job is to make sure the electorate remembers when the time comes.

It's not surprising to read people on the far right defending the Indiana anti-gay law as it is written. Instead they've wrapped themselves in victimhood and self-pity.

NASCAR, WAL-MART and the Governor of Arkansas, to name a few, are hardly left-wing loonies, and they all see Pence's folly for what it is, extra-privilege for one group to discriminate against another under the guise of religious freedom.

But don't expect the crazies on the far right to get it. They're too invested in self-righteous indignation to see through the Pence debacle.

Happily, these attempts by the intolerant right are the last gasps of people who know they've lost the battle to isolate and shame the LGBT community.

(BTW, JEB! is walking back some of his endorsement of Pence's folly. What a surprise.)

Walmart? That's laughable. The biggest importer of the biggest human right violating countries

speaking of fools...the right wing blogsphere is on fire with people bitching about how their right... to discriminate against gays is in danger...and soon this country will be Satan's own...if we allow the LGBT community to be treated like the rest of us...the right wing Christianists say homomarriage is a sin...but baking cakes and making bouquets for divorced heteros is fine...

Someone on a right wing blog wrote this:

"you won't be able to find enough policemen to keep check on society once you take God out of the country."

Obviously he has no idea that some of the most peaceful and thriving, nonviolent countries are in Scandinavia, where most of the population does not have a belief in god.

An area of the world that is FANATICAL about its belief in god is the Middle East. In fact, so fanatical are their beliefs that they flew planes into American buildings, believing god would reward them.

The guy who wrote the above quote is out of his mind or so besotted with the idea that religion is the only thing that keeps people from killing or stealing from each other that he ignores what any sane person can find out within seconds by googling.

The religious fanatics do not allow reality to seep into their bubbles.

Saudi Arabia or Norway? One is a country wholly devoted to gods and religion, the other one, not so much, in fact one of the least religious countries on earth.

Where would you choose to live?
