Marjorie Taylor Green represents the current Republican Party

My fb friend Michael K. wrote the piece below, and it needs to be seen by a lot more people:

"Marjorie Taylor Green, the newly elected congresswoman, has supported QAnon, and the disgusting view that the Sandy Hook, Parkland and Las Vegas mass shootings were false flag operations. She has called for Pelosi's assassination.

The more you look at her, the more despicable she appears. She remains seated in Congress, remains likely to be seated on a committee, and remains undenounced by the vast majority of her colleagues. She is one of the more egregious examples of the extent to which the Republican Party has been captured by paranoia, madness and lust for violence. There are many others.

These are the people with whom we are supposed to seek 'unity '. We have a very big problem in this country, and the more it's examined, the bigger it gets:

Survivors of the 2018 mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, are asking congressional Republicans to publicly censure Marjorie Taylor Greene for suggesting the school shooting was a “false flag” and for harassing a teenage survivor on Capitol Hill in 2019.

Greene, the newly elected Georgia congresswoman who is known for her support of the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy theory, was filmed in March 2019 as she followed 18-year-old David Hogg, one of the students who survived the shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas high school, outside Capitol Hill.

In the clip from 25 March, Greene can be heard calling Hogg a 'coward,' demanding that he explain how the students were able to set up meetings with so many lawmakers, and telling him that she herself was a gun owner. Greene tells Hogg that gun control will not work, and that his classmates would not have been killed if one of the law enforcement officers assigned to guard the school had 'done his job.' 'She later addresses her viewers, echoing false yet frequently spread conspiracy claims that mass shooting survivors and family members of victims are 'crisis actors' and the attacks that killed their loved ones were staged as a plot to pass gun control laws..."

In November 2018, California was hit with the worst wildfire in the state’s history. At the time, future Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) wrote a bizarre Facebook post that echoed QAnon conspiracy theorists and falsely claimed that the real and hidden culprit behind the disaster was a laser from space triggered by some nefarious group of people.

Greene’s post, which hasn’t previously been reported, is just the latest example to be unearthed of her embracing conspiracy theories about tragedies during her time as a right-wing commentator.

In addition to being a QAnon supporter, Greene has pushed conspiracy theories about 9/11, the Parkland and Sandy Hook school shootings, the Las Vegas shooting, and the murder of Democratic staffer Seth Rich, among others.

Greene also has a history of pushing anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic remarks.

CNN’s Em Steck and Andrew Kaczynski recently reported that on her Facebook page, “Greene repeatedly indicated support for executing prominent Democratic politicians in 2018 and 2019 before being elected to Congress.”

“Greene repeatedly indicated support for executing prominent Democratic politicians in 2018 and 2019 before being elected to Congress.”

************************

This is the new Republican Party: Electing and supporting people who call for murdering elected members of Congress. A political party that tolerates this sort of thing is not a political party anymore, but a Fifth Column advocating the overthrow the United States government.

Taylor and any other Republican in Congress who promote the murder of elected officials should be kicked out, shunned, and shamed. That's what a party of decent and patriotic people would do.

The current Republican Party is neither. And neither are the people who support.

Here's how the extreme believed you could know if a Muslim was moderate or extreme and how you should deal with if they didn't measure up...

"Until I see One Million muslims march on DC waving the American flag and singing God Bless America...and denounce their islamist, murdering, terrorists and their sharia political ideology co cultists like CAIR, MB and every American hating Iman [sic] ...I'll keep them as our enemy.

Period...no leeway...not one scintilla of acceptance."

Since 9/11, conservative extremists have defined an enemy, all followers of Islam, and demanded moderate voices across the globe stand up, risk their lives and denounce the terrorists.

Leaving aside the fact that moderate Muslim leaders and congregants did speak up, the belief of of the extremists can be boiled down to this... Silence is acceptance.

Let's apply that to the current GOP Party, as it relates to MTG who among other things has said...

The Sandy Hook and Parkland massacres didn't happen.
The Las Vegas massacre was a false flag operation.
The California wild fires were started by a Jewish Laser Beam.
That a former Sec of State molests children.
That a pizza parlor was a front for child molestation.
The US election in November was stolen.

Unless and until each and every member of the GOP stand up, risk their jobs and denounce the QAnon, Proud Boys, Insurrectionists and Domestic Terrorists, they own them. They are them. There is no space between them and the radicals they have created.

America is in a bad place when we can't agree that the flag of of Civil War secessionists should never be waved in the Capitol. America is in a bad place when an armed incursion and insurrection in the US Capitol and words encouraging the killing of the Vice President and other members of Congress are tolerated by a political party.

This is the Republican Party today. Because as they told us regarding Muslims...

Silence is acceptance.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave Their silence is acceptance — acceptance of GOP Congressmen and women who advocate for insane conspiracy theories and the assassination of their fellow Congressmen and women. As long as representatives like Green continue to serve as GOP Members of Congress, they represent all Republicans who do not reject such crazies.

And to think the Democrats kicked Senator Franken out of the Senate for posing for inappropriate photo ops.

The more the trumper nutters are called out with demonstrable facts, logic, and truth the stronger their allegiance to tRump and Trumpism grows. These people are truly lost and irredeemable.

The greater the facts, logic, and truth the greater their counter lies and conspiracies. It's as if we are now actually living in a time mimicking Orwell's 1984.

80 plus million Americans recognized this and voted accordingly. 70+ million people voted to sustain the lies, conspiracies, and rule of personality with fealty to an authoritarian kno nothing.

I see very little chance Of President Biden succecceding and quite likely the denizens of authoritarianism will be back in power in 2025. The corrupt delusional GOP and their cultists will fight President Biden at every conceivable turn and spread as many (or more) lies and conspiracy as they did from 2017-2021.

tRump WILL remain the party leader and he WILL continue where he left off. Lying, Lying, Lying, and spreading racism and division. A leopard cannot change its spots.

America as it was has been changed forever. When nearly 50% of the nation belives the Big Lie and preaches it to family, friends, abd co-workers, well, you know, it's easier for a great many to join the delusional thinking and be accepted than it is to fight and remain true.

tRump and the GOP are banking on it all.

Dave Miller said...

Mind you... MTG also denied that a plane hit the Pentagon.

How on earth could Americans elect such a person? She's a danger to the Republic.

Dave Miller said...

As for Franken... yes, the Dems pushed Al out. And I would say they did the right thing. I know ppl will disagree, and that's fine. But one of the stated reasons Dem leaders did so was to draw a line for GOP and its enabling minions.

Back to MTG for a sec... I know she has been spinning rapidly to cover her tracks. At a minimum, the GOP needs to make her step to mike, in the House Chamber, renounce her past views, say she was wrong and require her to do some community service with the organizations she has targeted in her various lies and conspiracies.

And then she should still be forced to resign.

The stupidity and lunacy just keep getting worse. Quayle, Palin, Bachmann, Trump, and now this. Each time we thought that was as bad as it could get, and each time we were wrong. And never has the party leadership had the guts, nor the party base had the decency, to draw a line and say, this is too crazy, this is unacceptable.

Far too many people fail to learn from history. And likely as many never learn it to begin with. Then there's the spinners.

We are watching the destruction for evermore of what was once the Republican Party. Sad for America in so many ways. We can work to make it’s demise a positive thing for the future of America, after watching the four year destruction of True American Institutions under the controlling Trumpian wing.

As he faces an impeachment trial for inciting insurrection, state and county Republican Party committees have rushed to Trump’s defense — highlighting the former president’s firm control of the GOP machinery.

In swing states and GOP bastions, state and local Republican committees are stocked with Trump supporters who remain loyal. Trump critics have been pushed out or marginalized. Party committees from Washington state to South Carolina have moved to punish many of the 10 House Republicans who supported Trump’s impeachment for egging on the deadly Jan. 6 raid of the U.S. Capitol.

Trump’s lock on the party apparatus is the result of a years long takeover of an institution he only loosely affiliated with before taking office. The effect amounts to a firewall protecting him and his far-right, nationalist politics from Republicans who argue the party needs a new direction if it wants to win elections.

Republicans are immoral. Republicans have no clue what the right thing is. They have been that way long before Trump came along.
McCarthy was supposed to have a meeting with her to discuss her statements. That was two days ago. Crickets from McCarthy. I guess McCarthy was busy meeting with Trump.
Crickets from other Republican house members. Republicans are afraid of the 10's of millions of Americans who agree with that garbage.
The dark side of America is growing. This isn't over and won't be for a long time.

Quote #1: I could only find one reference to the "fake inauguration" and very thin at that. One post mentioned Q Anon which is a group of little interest or currency to me. Would be easy to blame such a bogeyman, just as Oceania blamed Eastasia in Orwell's 1984.

Quote #2: The constant talking about DOMESTIC TERRORISM and the continuing of Guard in DC, the frequent mention of Qanon, (which is something NO Republican I know even understands or has read or whatever you do to it), RACISM! RACISM!

CNN 6/7/2020: Don't believe what you read, hear or see. That's what the Trump White House and the pro-Trump media are relying upon: Disbelief. The new book "Donald Trump and His Assault on Truth" by WaPo fact-checkers Glenn Kessler, Salvador Rizzo, and Meg Kelly makes this point at the end:

"A hallmark of authoritarian regimes is to call truth into question -- except as the regime defines it. Russian president Vladimir Putin offers up a fog of disinformation to maintain power, including denying obvious facts (such as Russian involvement in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17), spouting falsehoods and deflecting attention with nonsensical comparisons (dubbed whataboutism)". Then the authors quote former US ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul: "A cumulative effect of all these tactics is nihilistic debasement of the very concept of truth".

Dean Obeidallah on Twitter: GOP's Marjorie Taylor Greene is NOT an aberration she's a Culmination of where the GOP has been heading for years. She's a conspiracy loving bigot who incites violence. (7:21 video attached that is worth watching). 1/28/2021.

I've wondered why a certain segment of the American population is so determined to see Trump as some sort of weird outlier such that he must "have something" on his fellow Republican politicians for them to follow him so slavishly. I used to think that they're too craven to stand up to the man? But the reality is that Trump is actually mainstream conservatism and Republicanism.

This is who they are: Anti-democracy, racist, dishonest, corrupt, plutocratic, nepotistic, and violent.

They're all birds of a feather: Trump, Republicans in Congress, the Republican base. No one has anything on anyone. They're just bad people -- how else to describe a group that would embrace people like Marjorie Taylor Green? How else would you describe a group that wants to "move on" from the attack on the Capitol as though it was just a blip in our national behavior that caused the direct attack on our democracy, threatening to KILL our elected officials? They adhere to an ideology that is anti-democracy and anti-social. They've been working hard at creating that culture for decades.

We need to fight them at the ballot box every chance we get. IMO, they are the anti-Americans.

Jerry said...

Shaw,
Agreed!
What would have happened if those insurgents had gotten to the Representatives? They were screaming they wanted hang, or kill them. What would have happened if the police had used deadly force and killed 20, or 30 of them instead of just one?
If a person is threatened with death, they have a right to arm and defend themselves.
With these people threatening death, eventually there will be bloodshed. Defeating them at the ballot box won't be enough.
If McCarth can't even expell a member who has threatened the life of other members, that will just embolden other dangerous actors.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw and the rest...

This quote, posted yesterday, is telling... "As far as I’m concerned, every person who voted for Joe Biden is the enemy of our republic– and my enemy. Really."

This sums everything up. If we've learned anything over the years, it's that there is a part of the US population who believe whatever you need to do to defeat your enemy is alright. If civilians get killed in the process, that's war.

And make no mistake, this group believes at their core, that they are at war for the future and soul of America. They are living in essentially a "Whatever it takes" world. This is no existential threat.

FBI members must check their weapons at the door when they come to testify before Congress. And yet we have members of the far right in Congress who believe they have a right to carry on the floor. We have members of Congress openly calling for the killing of other members of the House. Their leaders and influencers, folks like Tucker Carlson and more, call people not part of their group jihadis.

People with weapons storming the Capitol in Michigan? Right wing terrorists. People marching with torches chanting Jews will not replace us? Right wing terrorists. People calling for the death of Vice President Mike Pence? Right wing terrorists. People rioting in Washington DC, breaking open the doors of Congress in an attempt to find and kill members of the Senate and Congress? Once again, right wing terrorists.

All with the GOP aiding and abetting their every move, unable to find deep within themselves a conscience or voice of protest.

There really is no equivalent on the left. Donald Trump, while facing daily political push back and protests from the left, never faced an armed mob. Never once. Smart people would ask why?

Nothing should surprise us... because they quote above is truly who, and where they are. And they are living a by any means necessary existence. Because to them, we are not true Americans, we are the enemy.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud You've come to this blog several times since the attack by Trumpers on the US Capitol, and I don't recall you condemning it outright or (correct me if I'm wrong) even mentioning it here.

Why is that? Did Maxine Waters agree with a facebook poster that a Republican House member should have a bullet put through his/her head, like Marjorie Taylor Green did? Did Maxine Waters try to bring a loaded gun into the House Chamber? Against the rules? Refuse to wear a mask? Against the rules? What happened to "Rule of Law" Republicans?

Your Maxine Waters example is an epic fail. She's not even close to the lawless terrorist wannabes the GOP has sent to the House.

But keep talking about President Biden and other Democrats, ignore the cretinous fools that flock to your party, and pretend that they're not a threat to our democracy. That'll work to make you feel safe while you denigrate President Biden.

Les Carpenter said...

Because they believe, IMO, that America should be today the exact same nation it was in 1787. Complete with the right of some (them) to own and control the lives of those different than themselves. These people present far greater danger to our republic than ANY foreign power.

Ms. Shaw, Look back and you will find my condemnation of the violence not only at the capital but at the cities who are under siege by radical groups both right and left.

If you will recall marvelous maxine did indeed preach to interrupt any republican and harass them at every opportunity. I do believe it was the leftist who attacked Paul leaving an event.

Now we have feinstein admitting she bought stock using insider info and one congressman having an affair with a spy. Where is the condemnation of those acts because you won't find it on the news. All politicians are an embarrassment and it is very little about running the country and all about their accumulation of money and power. Where is joey condemning all the violence around the country other than to say ANTIFA is not a group but an idea.

Biden needs to spend a little more time taking charge of what is happening and less on blaming the past administration. His PLAN for dealing with the pandemic has turned out to be just blame trump.

Skud, perhaps you missed it, but Joe Biden brought back the White House briefings which were largely discontinued under Dotard. I have also seem him signing EOs (as Dotard did) and answering questions after. Biden's EOs, btw, are mostly just rolling back Dotard's bad EOs. He wasn't going to leave them in place, so give me a break. And I like Maxine Waters. She strongly called out Dotard for his obvious collusion with Russia.

Talking to the social misfits and thugs that worship tRump and his Trumpism is completely USELESS. A colossal wsste of time and energy. These hopeless cultists have swallowed so much of the bulls^it and marinated in it for so damn long they will stand by evil no matter what. 70+ millon voted for the bullsh^t that caused this to happen. Probably at least 35 million of then are likely unredeemable deplorables. And therin rest this nation's CLEAR and PRESENT DANGER threat to democracy and this republic. And some of them are already in the house and the senate. As well as in state governments across America.

This sh^t is not going away. People will die because of their wotds and actions. tRump and ALL of his enablers will have blood on their hands each and every time the trumpian conservative thugs initiate violence. But they won't mind. It is what they have wanted for some time.

Shaw is very likely correct. These anti democracy and pro authoritarian tRump and Trumpism supporters won't be defeated at the polls. Trumpisn is now too deeply ingrained in what's left of conservatism and the GOP.

Re the Executive Orders... the complaints now are eerily like those we heard from the GOP chattering classes when President Obama, frustrated by GOP intransigence, signed 276 of them in 8 years. Less than fellow two term Presidents GW Bush, Clinton and Reagan. President Trump, in only one term, signed 220 EOs.

During the Obama Admin, people called him a dictator for his EOs, but not surprisingly, changed that tune once Trump was elected. And now, surprise again, the complaints are back. Hmmm...

Shaw... today we have another quote from the ethically challenged MTG speaking of ppl with Down's Syndrome, calling them "retards” without “common sense”.

Defending the remark, she doubled down declaring... "I'm not trying to talk down on people with Down's syndrome. But that's what these people are..."

A member of the US House of Representatives. Simply incredible. But since before Trump took office, the GOP has been fine with openly mocking people with disabilities.

Will we see any condemnation from the extremists? Little or none. And none will come without a rejoinder also condemning something totally unrelated about a Dem.

And if you think I'm wrong, just read Skud's comments.

skudrunner said...

Derv, You do mean the collusion that wasn't true unless you listen to the media. Even the democrat hacks couldn't prove it and they spent years and millions trying to. I have seen joey answer few questions and the press briefing you are referring to he does not attend. Eliminate 30,000 plus jobs, build a wall around the capital, don't build walls to protect our borders, give hundreds of millions to the worthless paris accords, build iran nuclear capabilities, give millions to WHO who conspired with china to bring down the US, relax tariffs on china so they can take our manufacturing and jobs, lie to PA about fracking, get rid of our energy independence, lie about his support of the green new deal. His PLAN for the virus is get more vaccine which is brilliant and I can't understand why no one thought of that.

No one can blame joey because even he admitted he doesn't know what he is signing.
Did trump do a good job of running the country, no but he was not about giving it away either just to appease the tribe. I do hope you are kidding about admiring marvelous maxine because I gave you more credit.

After four years of biden we will then have 12 years of obama because there is little difference. They both are special interest administrations who's big goal is to bring down the middle class the only difference is obama knew what he was doing.

Whenever skudrunner comes to comment here I think of Eeyore.

Eeyore is a character in the Winnie-the-Pooh books by A. A. Milne.

He is generally characterized as a pessimistic, gloomy, depressed, anhedonic*, old grey stuffed donkey who is a friend of the title character, Winnie-the-Pooh.

*Anhedonia: Loss of the capacity to experience pleasure. The inability to gain pleasure from normally pleasurable experiences. Anhedonia is a core clinical feature of depression,.

Although I don't think of skud as old or grey. But he does appear to get no pleasure from anything except bashing President Obama and now Biden.

But he does admit that Trump was not a good POTUS. Give him that. And skud admires him for not "giving" the country away.

I love how he and the rest of the Marjorie Taylor Green/Trump GOPers ignore the 400,000+ American deaths under Trump's miserable, incompetent, and deadly leadership.

Remember BENGHAZI! and the 4 dead Americans and the 11 hours they put Hillary through because of that tragedy? Yeah.

But skud and his Marjorie Taylor Green/Trump GOPers ignore the 400,000+ dead Americans as though their lost lives are meaningless.

Dervish Sanders said...

Skud, I was referring to Dotard's collusion with Russia as confirmed by a bi-partisan Senate intelligence committee report. The capitol was attacked by domestic terrorists, so a fence may be necessary. The Paris accords aren't worthless. The Dotard administration encouraged Iran to go back to working toward acquiring a nuclear weapon by pulling out of the JCPOA. WHO didn't "conspire" with China to "bring down the US", Dotard conspired to bring down the US by allowing the virus to rage out of control by lying about how dangerous it was for months. And then going with a "herd mentality" strategy. Dotard's trade war failed.

Biden told the truth about his not ending fracking. Joe Biden can't "get rid" of energy independence as it was not achieved under Dotard. Joe Biden never lied about supporting the green new deal. Dotard rejected getting more vaccine to combat the virus, so the Biden plan to get more IS a good idea. And he's going with Federal coordination, not saying "states, it's up to you" as Dotard did. Finally, Joe Biden never admitted he doesn't know what he is signing.

Les Carpenter said...

Could it be because they find life basically meaningless? Unless it conforms completely with their world view(s). And anything outside of that is simply not worth considering.

skudrunner said...

Ms. Shaw, I will correct you on one of your misconceptions, I am old and I am grey, guess that's two. I also believe we should have a Fair Tax system and we should get rid of all tariffs and corporate taxes. I do realize a lot of what I believe in requires people to take personal responsibility for their lives and actions. You have some on this site who are capable of doing that but others who don't have the capability. Blaming others for their own circumstances is common from those who believe that politicians are there for the people.

Derv, I will assume you have not looked at what the paris accord is all about. It is a feel good agreement with no enforcement powers. Most experts say the Paris Agreement will not be enough to prevent the global average temperature from rising 1.5°C. The effort is also shadowed by ample evidence that many countries aren't living up to the promises they made in 2015. Couldn't that money be better spent than on a feel good do nothing agreement.

As to the 400,000 deaths. Like Cuomo said people die the only thing cuomo is responsible for is killing several thousand in nursing homes. Could trump have done more at the beginning, sure. Who is responsible for the deaths in the last nine months, stupid people who do not follow reasonable precautions. Why would anyone not wear a mask in a crowd and not attempt to stay distant form people they don't know, stupid is all I can come up with.

It's a tough time to be a Republican in Georgia. If they disavow MTG, Trump goes nuts as she is his new "star". If they keep quiet, the silently assent and accept her views.

The person who wrote that, I'm sorry to say, has been infected with Trumpism. To state such a thing as she has is proof.

Joe Biden is a lifelong pol, which isn't something I'd hoped to see replace Trump. But Biden is an honest, decent man who knows how government works. No one will EVER use the words "honest" and "decent" to describe Trump. He is a phony Christian, unlike President Biden who actually is a sincere Christian who practices his faith and whose faith has helped him through terrible tragedies. Trump used the Christian faith to fool his followers. And fool them he has! i.e., that person's claim that President Biden is an enemy of the Republic!
