Some people (Trumpers) can't handle it:

The truth should never be controversial. Sadly, though, the radical right has festooned themselves in the fiction that America has never done anything wrong and to say they have is somehow unpatriotic. I proffer that just the opposite is true - that without acknowledging our flaws there is simply no way to improve. But, these are the very same people who wrap themselves in the flag, affix flag pins to every piece of clothing they own, and insist on everyone paying them attention while they piously pray to Jeebus for their team to score or for their hair not to fall out. It's sickening, frankly, that they won't take an unadulterated examination of the evils, along with the many great things America has done for our history and how that effects large pockets of our people even today.

Thomas Jefferson sold his own kids into slavery and gifted friends slaves.

A founding father. A man who wrote about the horrors of slavery. A man who slept with a slave woman, had kids with her, then sold his mixed race sons and daughters to others.

Not only was the USA founded on the back of slaves, the entire early economic engine of the US was dependent on slavery. Every state in the early years of the US benefited from slavery, the view that people of color were savages and not worthy of equal status and property.

We've come to the point that simple facts, if they are not favorable to your position, are not acceptable to believe.

Sad but true.

Bluebullamerica, Dave, Mike, understanding and acknowledging what this country did in the past is NOT unAmerican. The folks who object to facing the truths of our heritage as Americans are the same folks who, in their religion, must acknowledge their sins and transgressions, ask forgiveness, and do better.

I don't think they understand how foolish their resistance to understanding and acknowledging our past is. They do it in their religion. Why can't they do it for their country.

Also, every nation on Earth has to acknowledge their past, forgive themselves, and promise to never transgress again.
