This is who the former Republican Party supports for the US Senate from Georgia:

From The Daily Beast:

"Herschel Walker says he has no idea who this woman is who claims she had an abortion at his urging.

We can now reveal, with her permission, that the woman is actually the mother of one of his children."

In addition to domestic abuse and violence, recent reports (with documentation) revealed Walker paid for an abortion for a girlfriend (he denies it.)  Walker is against abortion for ANY reason, even to save the life of the mother.

That's just hypocrisy No. 1. There's more:

Walker's been vocal about Black men being absentee fathers. We now know that he fathered more than one child out of wedlock, in fact, he's fathered FOUR. And has been an absentee father!

Big wigs in the Trumpublican Party have praised Walker and stated he'd make a great US Senator -- Nikki Haley is one of those who can't say enough good things about Walker. And Walker has the undying support of a fellow sexual assaulter, Donald Trump -- the guy who lost the last presidential election and who incited an insurrection against his own government and encouraged an armed mob to hang his vice president.

Walker is being used by the Trumpublican Party to advance their anti-democracy agenda, and the party and its supporters don't care about his personal background, which is antithetical to everything the former Republican Party was for!

"...back in July 2021, the Associated Press reported that Walker’s ex-wife had secured a protective order against him and that relatives had informed her that he’d told them he planned to kill her.

Walker denied to police that he’d made the threats, per the AP, but one relative testified to this under oath, and a judge saw “good cause” to grant the protective order. What’s more, as the AP delicately put it, Walker “alarmed business associates with unpredictable behavior.” --WaPo

“Republicans stand with him,” [said] Senator Rick Scott, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

This is a cynical and shameful political bargain, but nothing new from the former Republican Party. The current Trumpublican Party doesn't care about policies, the law, the Constitution, or personal character and human decency.

Afterall, they fell over themselves to support a Liar, a Cheat, and a Fraud for president of the U.S., and they got what they deserved. Good and hard.

The Republican Party has been taken by power-mad greedheads, pathological liars, criminals and fascist thugs. Their Fuhrer meets all these "standards".

When their leader PRAISED thugs for beating cops and terrorizing Congress, the Rubicon was crossed.

First it was "Stand down and stand by", to the Proud Boys. Then, "You're very special. We love you."

These are their cues to continue their coup, their violence and their war on democracy.

Remember just a couple of days ago on the Mothership when extremist GOP supporters felt honesty was an important quality in a politician?

Now we have Herschel...

Claim... He graduated in the top 1% of his class at UGA.
Truth... He never graduated from UGA

Claim... Walker worked for law enforcement.
Truth... Never happened.

Claim... Called himself a certified peace officer.
Truth... Never served in law enforcement.

Claim... I work with the Cobb County Police Department, and I’ve been in criminal justice all my life.
Truth... Never happened.

Claim... I spent time at Quantico working with the FBI.
Truth... Never happened.

Every single one of the above are lies, pure and simple. Demonstrably false statements from the US Senate candidate in GA. Purposely false statements. Lies.

Add in his admitted struggles with mental illness, his history of domestic violence and his hypocrisy related to abortion and it makes one wonder why the GOP is supporting this guy.

The only answer we can come up with is this... character doesn't matter, intelligence doesn't matter, the truth doesn't matter. All that matters is that Walker has an R after his name. And the extremists will do whatever they have to do to justify a vote for him, even if it means leaving the values behind that just a few days ago were so important to them.

Republicans used to claim that "character counts". Candidates like Trump and Walker show that is no longer true

Ray Cranston said...

So according to the GOP's views on abortion, Walker paid to have a child murdered.

Got it.

And the Trumpanzees will vote for Walker and feel superior for voting for the Black guy. That proves theyre not racists! LOL!

Why anyone would take him seriously is perplexing. He was a good football player but not the brightest bulb on the tree, guess that makes him a good politician. I have gotten to the point that no one trump endorses I would vote for because qualifications do not matter.

Walker running, bush pushing defund police while she spends thousands on her own security, warren saying we need to pay off more of the privileged kids tuition and make the plumber pay it and now 31 trillion in debt and inflation out of control, along with crime and border.

I do agree with adams in that republicans talk about crossers and do nothing and the democrats don't even talk about it. Now we have aoc saying she is all for the immigrants as long as they are not allowed in her neighborhood and pelosi saying all they are good for is picking crops. Talk about character counts with those racist comments coming from liberal democrats.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud,

This is the ACTUAL quote, from the transcript -- not FAUX NOOZ, not the Washington Examiner, not the New York Post:

"Speaker Pelosi. Well, I believe that we have to have a secure border, and I think that we are trying to address – the President has a plan to address that.

Securing our border is part of our security to protect and defend our country, let there be no doubt. I don't respond to those kind of questions. I mean, with all due respect, all respect to your question at the end, but not to his comments, because I don't even know what he's talking about, and I don't know if he does.

But the fact is, is that we have a responsibility to secure our border. We also have a responsibility to recognize the importance of newcomers to our nation. Right now, the best thing that we can do for our economy is to have comprehensive immigration reform. We have a shortage of workers in our country, and you see even in Florida some of the farmers and the growers saying, ‘Why are you shipping these immigrants up north? We need them to pick the crops down here.’

How is telling the truth about Florida farmers needing help a racist comment?

Shaw Kenawe said...

"CLERMONT, Fla. — Kyle Hill strolls down rows of plants, stopping at times to pick a weed out from the raised mounds of dirt. He’s alone in the four-and-a-half-acre field, awash in golden reflections as the sun moves to the horizon.

Two days from now, eight thousand people will descend on this field, plucking bright red strawberries to bring home and turn into fruit bowls and pies. Tourism is one of the two things keeping Southern Hill Farms afloat. The other is migrant labor.

“They’re great guys who are always in good spirits, work very hard, appreciative of what they’re doing, and they are an absolute necessity to our business,” Director of Farming Operations Kyle Hill said.

Like most farms in the Sunshine State, Southern Hill Farms contracts with the H-2A visa program to bring labor in from Mexico and Central America. The visa is reserved for temporary agriculture workers, who are brought to the US for up to 10 months to plant and harvest crops at various farms before heading home to rest.

To skud:

Pelosi was stating A FACT. Facts are stubborn things, not racist.

(Cont.)"The program also comes with loads of restrictions for farmers. Licenses, contracts, housing, transportation, insurance, food – everything is paid for by the farm, on top of the $12 per hour salary. During harvest, laborers make more since they’re paid by the pound.

“It’s not cheap. It’s not a cheap process at all,” Hill said. “It’s pretty much all we all we can do because we can’t find the work here.”

Hill is quite possibly the last American to successfully complete a day in his family’s fields. He worked them as a teenager with a friend on summer break, an experience he described as “brutal.” The last time Southern Hill Farms hired an American to do the grunt work, the worker quit before the day was over."

Shaw Kenawe said...

Ron DeSantis shipped legal migrants to Martha's Vineyard for a cheap, dehumanizing prank. Florida farmers need migrant workers to harvest their fields.

NANCY PELOSI WAS TELLING THE TRUTH. THOSE WHO DISLIKE HER CALLTHAT RACISM.

Now, back to my post, which is about Herschel Walker and the Trumpublican's cynical use of him to win a US Senate seat.

Conservative (non-Trumpian) Charlie Sykes on the Bulwark:

"...it turns out that Walker was not merely pro-choice, but actively pro-abortion in his raggedy private life. A little more than decade ago, he paid for what pro-lifers consider the murder of an unborn baby.

Walker’s own son, Christian, called out the rank hypocrisy here: “Family values people: He has four kids, four different women. Wasn’t in the house raising one of them. He was out having sex with other women,” he said on social media. “Do you care about family values?”

As it turns out, nope. As in: not at all."

Yeah. I'll laugh in the face of any Trumper who talks about the sanctity of life and "family values."

The former Republican Party cares about neither.

When one has no values beyond ego driven self interest, power, and wealth as Trump and Walker exhibit we see prime examples of what is wrong, DEEPLY WRONG with American culture in this present moment.

Nothing we say here will convince the followers of the evil that these folks actually represent. Fortunately at this point they are in the decided minority among the greater population. This alone is no assurance that that alone will prevent the further rise of fascist leaning thought in America.

As I said on my post today, beware of what you wish for. But I'm fairly convinced the cult faithful have long lost their ability to be discerning in any real way.

As someone once said said… Hope springs eternal. I guess that's something anyway.

Les Carpenter said...

History is a fine teacher. When you know, understand, and believe it. Trump doesn't care as he is power hungry and his followers simply ignore all that which he commands them to.

A cult is now what the red political party is. Pure and simple.

I read enough statements from Walker supports to know that they believe the ends justify the means. IOW, supporting someone like Walker is forgivable so long as your side wins. It's a "win at all costs" mentality. And the "all costs" is that no one will believe their false "family values" and "abortion is evil" b.s. ever again.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave

I have Republican friends and family. None of them can stomach what's happened to that party. Not. One. It is a minority party that pretends the American people support their ideas. The American people DO NOT. A majority of Americans support a woman's right to physical autonomy; a majority of Americans believe people have the right to love and marry the person of their choice; a majority of Americans voted for Joe Biden and his policies.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Not only do the Trumpers support Trump's violence to overthrow a free and fair election, but now they're supporting abortion as long as their guy gets to be US Senator.

The current Republican Party stands for nothing but power.

Infidel753 said...

Unfortunately the Republican base now has fundamentalists at its core, and hypocrisy has been entrenched in that subculture for a long time. Think of all the countless preachers and pastors caught engaging in sexual or financial abuse, who were "redeemed" and "forgiven" and carried on as before. Fundies are predisposed by long practice to make excuses for abusive behavior by their leaders and heroes. They did it for Trump and they'll do it for Walker, for the sake of securing power.

The best hope is that more middle-of-the-road voters who lean Republican but aren't fundamentalists will be disgusted by the newest revelations and the hypocrisy of the excuse-makers. It's hard to imagine any normal person not reacting that way.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Well, well, well. Newt Gingrich is all in for Walker:

Gingrich: "I think Walker is the most important Senate candidate in the country because he'll do more to change the Senate...by his deep commitment to Christ."

This endorsement by a guy who cheated on two of his wives, and had a 6-year affair with wife #3 while still married to wife #2. Now I don't give a flying donut about what Gingrich or any other phony "family values" Republican does between the sheets, it's their hypocrisy that is stomach turning.

We know damn well that if Hershel Walker had a "D" after his name, Gingrich and the rest of the phony religious pharisees in the GOP would be crucifying him, especially about his being an absentee father of the 4 children by 4 different women, and his procuring an abortion (one that we know of) for one of his women friends.

I remember how people like Gingrich spoke about Barack Obama who's stayed faithfully and happily married to one woman, with whom he's had two children. Obama, who had NO SCANDALS in the 8 years of his administration. IOW, a REAL family values guy.

Again, the Republicans falling all over themselves to support Walker are stomach-turning hypocrites of unimaginable proportion.

Ms. Shaw, Thanks for confirming that pelosi said all the crossers are good for is picking crops. As to her statement that the democrats are working on the border issue is laughable. Neither their leader or his VP have visited the border. Of course like PR, if he visits the border he will say he is part mexican. They really keep stepping in it and we need to have an age limit for politicians. If airline pilots have a mandatory retirement age of 65 why not politicians. Mayor pete said the current retirement age is going to remain which makes no sense if politicians can make life decisions until death or 110 whichever comes first.

If it makes you feel good to characterize her like that, then good on you. She just repeated what the farmers in Florida said. So she's in sync with them.

PS She did NOT say that is all they're good for. But accuracy and honesty doesn't matter to you, so my bad.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw... as if Rafael Warnock, pastor of MLKs old church does not have a "deep commitment to Christ", so we need Walker???

And therein the rub for many on the right... they'll accept DJT, and Walker too, at face value and see them as Christians, but those of us who lean left have a counterfeit faith.

It's total BS from the man who worked to impeach Pres Clinton over his lack of morality while he himself was cheating on his wife. The same Newt Gingrich who served one of his wives with divorce papers as she was recovering from cancer surgery.

Wheel of morality turn turn turn...

These folks are priceless.

Dave Miller said...

The folks who are okay with Walker's lies are the same folks who were and are okay with Trump's. As long as they get the reins of power, it matters not who they invest that power in. So pathological liars, adulterers, absentee fathers, wife beaters are all welcome in the new Republican Party as long as they help them hold onto power.

Do you think the sailors on the Mother Ship give any of this any deep self-reflection? They do consider themselves upright religious folks, who, BTW, denigrated, demeaned, and ridiculed Barack Obama.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Of course it was but it sure got attention because the cities said keep them down south because we don't want them in our neighborhood. I don't think Westchester wanted all the ghost flights arriving in the middle of the night either but the media ignored it.

It was funny when joey said he was raised PuertocRican because there were five in deleware and now he can relate to the people in Florida who had a great loss because he had a kitchen fire years ago that was quickly extinguished.

Perfect Shaw. Why otherwise intelligent folks can't see what is plainly in front of their faces is a sort of mystery.

Dave Dubya said...

Shaw,
"...people who love to have an authoritarian tell them what they can or cannot do, say, or think."

Exactly. Authoritarian followers need to follow their leaders. The "others" are out to get them, so they must meet the threat in lock-step unity. Conformity is comfort. It helps settle their overactive amygdalas, always triggering their primitive fight or flight emotional center.

They are emotionally over-reactive creatures by nature and nurture. What they FEEL is more important, and processed faster than what they think, to whatever degree they can.

As Les wonders, like we all do, "Why otherwise intelligent folks can't see what is plainly in front of their faces is a sort of mystery."

Unfortunately there are intelligent authoritarian leaders who know how to emotionally trigger and manipulate their followers. They understand emotions will always prevail over reason in their fellow authoritarian personalities. Authoritarian leaders always tell their followers who to blame and hate.

We see something new and want to understand it. They see something new and feel threatened.

We meet a person of unusual appearance and are curious. They meet a person of unusual appearance and and feel suspicious.

An IQ can't compensate for the lack of an EQ.

The reaction is default to the amygdala.

Humanity must somehow deal with the quarter to third of their population having an authoritarian personality...

Maybe the final hurdle for our species survival?

In the meantime, let’s be cheerful and optimistic, if only in our private life. This is when a sick sense of humor and not taking anything personally can come in handy.

We try our best to be kind and get along with others, to live mindfully and embrace life in the moment. Life and the universe still have their wonders.

It is ours to enjoy, and for authoritarians to fear as satanic or apocryphal.

Mike said...

Dave, well said and very enlightening on the authoritarian personality. I've maintained, as you have, that in any given population, there'll always be fearful people who cleave to authoritarian figures. We found that out when Trump became POTUS, and now we know how many exist in our population.

Mike, I think Walker is suffering from CTE. His rages, reported by his girlfriends and ex-wives and his magical thinking (lies), point to this.

Shaw Kenawe said...

What is curious is the Trumpers always claiming that President Biden isn't mentally fit for the presidency, yet they are fiercely supporting the mentally unfit Walker for the US Senate.

Oh well, Trumpers are never morally or rationally consistent. All that matters to them is power.

PS. This will only make the Trumpublicans' support of Walker even stronger. The bigger the lies from their candidates, the harder they cling to them. It was President Biden who gave the go-ahead for federal government help before DeSantis even asked. That's what competent presidents who don't throw paper towels at hurricane victims do!

President Biden is to be commended for his prompt reaction to the disaster. Unlike GWB during Katrina.

Your compulsion to denigrate President Biden in every way and in every comment no matter what he does -- even when it is commendable -- is noted.

Dave, These folks are fearful ignorant people. They cling to the imagined reality their delusional egos drive them to create for themselves. Their suffering is the result of their constant struggle to maintain their non existant mistaken self. And what better way for them to validate their delusions than to band together in a tribe of like minded folks who will reinforce their delusions and obscurations. I know that to be true because I was once there with them. Until I did the work to break free from that very negative energy.

This phenomenon is not unique to American cons. The truth is it is universal across the globe. Except that in more altruistic cultures, like Bhutan, Tibet (annexed by China in 1959), and other Asian and South Asian countries it is less prevelant.

Perhaps one day, as the dharma wheel turns, and more folks gain insight and wisdom, humankind will finally realize the true nature of our existence. With that, when and if it comes, true peace, contentment, and wisdom will be commonplace and suffering will greatly lessened.

I don't think Anonymous has done research to support his claim.

Buddhism is the closest faith to the way of peace and compassion.

There are no calls for jihad, no calls for crusade, no false sense of being the "chosen", no wars for conquest, wealth and resources.
Militarism, power, and capitalist greed are incompatible with Buddhism.
Buddhists are the least war-mongering, and the proof is there.

Peace and non-violence are central to Buddhism. Buddhists believe violence destroys inner peace.

"But what about the Japanese in WWII?"

Expanding Japanese Imperialism meant subverting the Buddhist tradition.

Wiki:

Before the war Anti-Buddhist government policies and religious persecution put many Buddhist institutions on the defensive against those who saw it as the enemy of the Japanese people. This led Japanese Buddhist institutions to re-examine and re-invent the role of Buddhism in a modernizing Japanese state which now supported state Shintō.

Wiki explains the Japanese militarists and authoritarians in WWII:

During the war, the Japanese government sough to further tighten its control over Buddhist institutions. They attempted to force Buddhist schools to remove from their doctrines any language or idea that revealed anything less than full allegiance to the emperor or that diminished the significance of Shintō kami. This included parts of the writings of medieval Buddhist founders like Shinran and Nichiren who had written that it is sometimes good to criticize rulers if they go against the Dharma.

So yes, Japan's adhering to traditional Buddhism would have resulted in better outcomes for all the victims of Japanese aggression in WWII.

Buddhists don't start wars and have no claim to any deity. Maybe that's one of the reasons?
