The Dallas Morning News Endorses, Praises Hillary and Strongly Rejects Trump

The Dallas Morning News, not exactly a liberal newspaper, has come out with an editorial endorsing, recommending, and praising Democrat Hillary Clinton for POTUS, and it has strongly rejected the repulsive Republican nominee, Donald J. Trump.

This is the first time in 76 years that TDMN has endorsed a Democrat.

Amazing.

From the Washington Post:

For the first time since 1940, the Dallas Morning News has endorsed a Democrat for president, telling readers in one of the nation's most reliably red states Wednesday that they ought to vote for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump.

[There are now dozens of big-name Republicans supporting Hillary Clinton for president] The Morning News's conservative editorial board, joining dozens of high-profile Republicans in rejecting the GOP nominee and supporting his opponent, acknowledged that breaking a 19-election streak caused its members some heartburn, but the endorsement's opening sentence suggested they felt their choice was clear:

"There is only one serious candidate on the presidential ballot in November."

The Morning News braced readers for its surprise move in an editorial Tuesday that declared "Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president and does not deserve your vote."

Still, the newspaper went far beyond a non-endorsement of Trump. What makes the Morning News's backing of Clinton so striking is how full-throated it was.

The paper could have picked Clinton merely by process of elimination or even declined to endorse either candidate, as it did in the 1964 contest between Lyndon Johnson and Barry Goldwater.

Instead, the editorial board praised Clinton.

This is another example of conservatives who put principle over party loyalty, something that is sorely lacking in the radical rabid right wing Tea Party -- those Goopers are so besotted with Hillary Hate that they've prostituted themselves (2. A person considered as having compromised principles for personal gain.) and betrayed their core values because they hate Hillary more than they love America.

There are more than a few principled conservatives who fled from Trump as it was increasingly clear that he has no core values, that he is not a conservative, that his professed Christianity is not genuine, and that he is what Republican Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, claimed -- the very definition of a racist.

Yet, astoundingly, there are conservatives who continue to support Trump and who will vote for the worst candidate any political party has ever proposed for POTUS. Those conservatives know what a remarkably repulsive person and candidate Trump is, but they believe Hillary is worse. They've bought into the b.s. that's been thrown at her for the last 25 years. As The Dallas Morning News wrote, she is not without flaws, but she is far and away the better qualified, the more experienced, and the tougher of the two, able to stand up to her critics and not retaliate with childish retaliatory tweets -- the way Trump does, demonstrating to the world that he is a thin-skinned, narcissist who would be a danger to the U.S. and her allies.

Kudos to The Dallas Morning News for putting principle over party.

For those who continue to believe Trump would be a competent and skillful president, there will be a reckoning on November 8 when you look in the mirror and see a person who was willing to place our country in harm's way just to spite Hillary Clinton.

Here's PM Carpenter on The Dallas Morning News' endorsement:

"If you're a conservative (and by that I mean a genuine conservative, not some tea-partying loon), a card-carrying Republican, even a partisan Clinton-loather, you needn't embrace the paper's opinion that Hillary deserves your vote. You need only appreciate that The Donald does not. You are free to slam Hillary, to blast her, to vilify her, to denounce her for all manner of Clintonian wickedness; but if you're the least bit honest with yourself, in the end you will embrace the simple reality that Donald Trump is infinitely more undeserving."

Here is a conservative newspaper talking about Donald Trump:

Donald Trump is no Republican and certainly no conservative.

Individual liberty? Trump has displayed an authoritarian streak that should horrify limited-government advocates. This impulsive, unbridled New York real estate billionaire and reality-TV star wants to deport people who were born in the U.S. and don't meet his standard for loyalty. He has proposed banning all Muslims from entering the country, even those escaping Islamist rule, and won't rule out creating a database of Muslims already living here.

His open admiration of Russia's Vladimir Putin is alarming.

Free markets? Economic conservatism? Ronald Reagan once said that "protectionism is destructionism." Trump, on the other hand, has called the Trans-Pacific Partnership "a rape of our country."

Businesses who invest overseas, he says, should pay a hefty fine on imports. (We'll leave aside for a moment his hypocrisy in pretending that investing in hotels abroad, as he does, is somehow different from a manufacturer investing in foreign car factories.) His protectionism would likely force the U.S. into trade wars, increase the deficit and sink the U.S. economy back into a recession.

Trump's idea of fiscal conservatism is reducing expenses by financing mountains of soul-crushing debt.

Strong national defense? Trump pledges to make our military "so big, so powerful, so strong that nobody — absolutely nobody — is going to mess with us." But what does he want to do with that military? He says he supports killing the families of Muslim terrorists and allowing interrogation methods "a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding." And if the military balks at obeying such orders? "If I say do it, they're gonna do it," he says.

His isolationist prescriptions put sound bites over sound policy: Invite the Russians into our elections. Bomb the Middle East into dust. Withdraw from NATO.

It's not easy to offer a shorthand list of such tenets, since Trump flips from one side to the other, issue after issue, sometimes within a single news cycle. Regardless, his ideas are so far from Republicanism that they have spawned a new description: Trumpism.

We have no interest in a Republican nominee for whom all principles are negotiable, nor in a Republican Party that is willing to trade away principle for pursuit of electoral victory.

Trump doesn't reflect Republican ideals of the past; we are certain he shouldn't reflect the GOP of the future.

Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president and does not deserve your vote.

Well at least we know who the NOT conservatives are. We've been reading their blogs that support Trump and demonize Hillary for the past 15 months.

I know this: No Liberal newspaper has come out and urged its reader to not vote for Hillary. I'd like to see the Trump supporters explain the dozens of life-long conservatives who have abandoned Trump for Hillary, dozens of officials who have served with honor under Republican administrations who have abandoned Trump for Hillary.

There is nothing comparable happening with the Democrats. I haven't heard any high ranking Democrat say they're abandoning Hillary for Trump.

If Hillary were the "witch," "demon," and other things they say she is, then explain why so many true conservatives support HER and not Trump?

Trump supporters are now engaging in magical thinking. They think that because they've seen 3 TRUMP lawn signs that means he has wide support; they actually believe a cable news poll that says Trump is ahead by 2 points and he has a chance to win. This is exactly the same sort of magical thinking that happened 4 years ago with Romney: People saw lawn signs for him, so, therefore, he's going to win.

In that contest, Romney at least was a true conservative so it wan't far-fetched to believe he could win. In this race, the Tea Party conservatives are backing a reprobate, a liar, a fraud, a serial adulterer, and a possible crook who has zero experience in everything except building casinos and running beauty pageants

If you read the TeaParty blogs like I do, you'll see that they've upped their rhetoric about Hillery (Hellary) and called her every ugly name you can call a woman (Trumpism at its best)and they're predicting the collapse of American civilization if she becomes president.
See those TeaParty fanatics had the chance to nominate other conservatives, but they loved the way Trump shit in everyone's corn flakes, they loved how he trashed political correctness, they loved how he insulted everyone except them. Now they have a candidate that is on his way to being humiliated by a woman who would have lost to any other of their candidates. This is the very definition of stupidity. They're telling themselves that Trump is "gaining on Hillary," and that he's 2 points ahead of her! Yeah. They've been called The Stupid Party for good reasons.

The Dallas News tells its readers to vote for Hillary not Trump and that's a conservative newspaper and it hasn't endorsed a Democrat in 75 years? Need more proof that Trump is a crap candidate for the Rethugs? And the Dallas News called Hillary Haters hyenas! Hahahaha!

Perfect.

The fact that the Dallas Morning News dumped on Trump does not mean that they would automatically endorse Clinton. The fact that they do endorse Clinton shows you just how far right she has actually drifted. Clinton, while miles ahead of Trump as being qualified to be president, clearly is no progressive.

HRC, like WJC, is a pragmatist. Just without the charisma.
