THE FBI IS INVESTIGATING TRUMP RUSSIA TIES -- NYTimes Headline, March 21, 2017

UPDATE BELOW

NYTimes sub-headings:

"Comey's haunting news on Trump and Russia...possible election collusion..."

"Fresh News on Russia for Trump's Weary Defenders"

"FBI Confirms Inquiry On Trump Team Russia Ties

"The Untruths About Russia Are Escalating"

"GOP Responds By Changing The Subject"

David Leonhardt:

"The Ninth Week of Donald Trump's presidency began with the FBI director calling him a liar.

As Leonhardt writes, Comey didn't actually use the "L" word, but he did say that there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that President Obama wiretapped Trump Tower.  (BTW, Leonhardt, who's been covering Trump since the beginning of his improbable campaign for the presidency, has no qualms about calling Trump what he is:  A LIAR. )

From now on, whatever comes out of Trump's mouth has to be considered a LIE, until proved otherwise.

Trump's stupid, impetuous false Tweet about President Obama wiretapping Trump Tower got him in all this swampy trouble. Can we imagine the trouble the Liar in Chief will generate in the years to come?

Many Americans voted for Trump to "drain the swamp," and now Trump and his brand new administration are wallowing in a swamp of deceptions, lies, and possible treason.

How's that swamp draining working out for you, America?

UPDATE:

Mike Littwin of The Colorado Independent:

Now that the FBI has officially called Trump a liar, what can possibly come next?'

"...the head of the FBI basically called the president a liar before a congressional committee. In modern terms, and maybe in any terms, that is unprecedented. Of course, Trump is a liar. Everyone knows he’s a liar, his hapless defenders most of all. But knowing it and hearing James Comey very publicly confirm it are two different things.

In any other time, it would have been shocking to hear Comey’s testimony. But what was truly shocking was how unremarkable it all seemed. There were no gasps. There was no one—outside of combative Sean Spicer anyway—rushing to Trump’s defense. This is exactly what everyone expected Comey to say. And yet. And yet. When Comey wasn’t putting the absurdity of Trump’s wiretap accusation to rest, he was confirming the news that the FBI was, in fact, investigating whether anyone in the Trump campaign had colluded with the Russians to, well, undermine American democracy.

And when Comey wasn’t deflecting questions about the investigation, Rep. Adam Schiff, a rare bright Democratic light, was making the circumstantial case for why the FBI should be investigating, finally asking this: “Is it possible that all of these events and reports are completely unrelated and nothing more than an entirely unhappy coincidence? Yes, it is possible. But it is also possible, maybe more than possible, that they are not coincidental, not disconnected and not unrelated.”

And when Schiff wasn’t hitting the Flynn-Sessions-Manafort-Stone-Page-Russia connection, we were hearing that, of course, the British were no more likely than Obama to have planted a bug in Trump Tower. It’s hard to imagine a worse day for a president. But what we can safely predict is that worse days are coming and that the pace, if the first two months are any indication, will only quicken."

hey, quit raggin' on poor old donald. the poor bastard dropped 220 spots on the billionaire ranking list.

i'm still keeping my fingers crossed that he shows up for wrestlemania. if you're a rasslin fan you'll notice that he uses some of the rasslin tricks that the good guys use to fire up the crowd when they do their mic work.

Infidel753, so that's why Trumplandia stinks as bad as it does.

E. Rosewater, I can always tell when Trumpistas are soiling their undies. They come here and accuse me of being insane because I simply report what Trump has done to himself and his administration. Somehow, to them, I'm nuts because Trump is incompetent and a liar.

“This is the most failed first 100 days of any president,” he said. “To be as low as he is in the polls, in the 30s, while the FBI director is on television saying they launched an investigation into your ties with Russia, I don’t know how it can get much worse.” Rice University History Professor Douglas Brinkley

Just wait, Professor Brinkley. This is the Trump administration, so it can get worse.

Shaw, there's a reason Trump still has 37% approval. It's because his followers are effing liars just like him and birds of a feather do admire each other. Liars admire other liars for their ability to lie so often and so well.

Trump supporters perpetuate the lie that President Obama flew his dog Bo on a separate plane when the Obamas went on vacation during the Obama administration. That is a lie that was passed around in the usual moronic right wing emails. It never happened, but that doesn't stop the liars and idiots from believing it. They believe he flew Bo to "one of Obama's homes." President Obama had one home that he owned and that was in Chicago, the other home was the White House which he lived in while he was president, he never owned it.

Factcheck.org:

Q: Did President Obama have his dog, Bo, flown to Maine in his own private jet for the family vacation?

A: No. The family and staff took two small jets because the airport couldn’t accommodate the usual presidential plane. Bo flew with several staffers.

Another lie exposed:

Q: Did Michelle Obama and her daughters use taxpayer money to take a European vacation?

A: The first lady, her mother and her children did stay in Europe for a private vacation after the president completed an overseas trip on official business. However, no taxpayer money was used for the first family’s personal expenses.

The 37% who still support the Liar Trump do that because like him they are liars too.

Here's all we need to know about the people most adamant in their support of Pres Trump...

"Russia and Putin are likely more representative of western values than either America of Britain today."

This is what people on conservative blogs are saying... I am stunned beyond words at the level of contempt these people have for America. And they call us Un American.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave, I've said this before, and it is as true now as it was in the past: Those people are terminal. That they would say that Putin, who murders his opposition and jails opposition journalists represents western values shows how corrupt their ideology has made them. Corrupt and definitely mentally unstable. Those mentally unstable people gave this country Trumpism and all the corruption attached to it.

When Trump was campaigning he stated it would be a terrible thing for this country to have a presidential candidate under FBI investigation.

We now have a REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT under FBI investigation, and the wackos on those blogs think that's just fine.

More BIG lies from trump to add to your list.

He got permission from the department of labor to hire foreign workers to staff Mara Lago, the winter White House. So instead of caring about saving YOUR money he's saving money by hiring those who will work for half or maybe even a third what Americans would cost him. His son also hiring foreign workers for trump wineries.

Next, Keystone XL pipeline is exempt from the "must use American steel" line he spews almost daily. The lies flow from his mouth the way water flows from your kitchen faucet.

SW... people hear what they want to hear, right?

S.W. and Dave, none of this is surprising anymore.

Even the GOP-friendly Wall Street Journal says that Trump's lies are eroding public trust:

A President’s Credibility -- The Wall Street Journal

Trump’s falsehoods are eroding public trust, at home and abroad.
March 21, 2017 7:28 p.m. ET

If President Trump announces that North Korea launched a missile that landed within 100 miles of Hawaii, would most Americans believe him? Would the rest of the world? We’re not sure, which speaks to the damage that Mr. Trump is doing to his Presidency with his seemingly endless stream of exaggerations, evidence-free accusations, implausible denials and other falsehoods.

But the far right blogs still make excuses for the Great Deceiver. Apparently, as Dave reported, even going off their rockers saying that Putin's Russia is a better example of western values than is America! Those are the same folks who keep saying Liberalism is a mental disease. They believe the totalitarian thug, Vladimir Putin, reflects American values: thuggery, murder, invading Ukraine? That belief from them is a perfect explanation of how Trump still maintains 30% approval in this country.
