Friday Night Funnies

He can pick anywhere. He picked New Jersey.

"Barack Obama played golf yesterday. Now he heads to a 10 day vacation on Martha's Vineyard. Nice work ethic," observed Donald Trump sarcastically in 2010.

"President Obama is about to embark on a 17-day vacation in his 'native' Hawaii," exclaimed Donald Trump incredulously in 2013.

"I would not be a president who took vacations," promised Donald Trump confidently in 2015.

"I'm going to vacation for the next 17 days at a New Jersey golf resort with my name on it," whispered Donald Trump, probably, in 2017.

Yes, the president will reportedly leave the White House on Friday to begin a 17-day stay at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, which historians believe will be the longest period that anyone who does not reside full-time in Somerset County will voluntarily travel to and stay in Somerset County. (Imagine being told that you can take an all-expenses-paid vacation anywhere in the country and deciding on... New Jersey.)

This is, of course, not the first time that Trump has enjoyed time away from the White House on taxpayers' dime—the price tag of his weekend jaunts this year alone are estimated to outpace President Obama's entire eight-year travel budget—but it will be the lengthiest trip he's taken yet.

"Nice work ethic."

He said that he was not going to take vacations as president. Perhaps the military (McMaster and Kelly) sent him away.

I'm inclined to view Trump's extensive vacationing in the same spirit. Yes, it's a huge waste of money and further evidence of his lazy nature -- but it's better than having him actually do things.

It is a WORKING vacation. And also "necessitated... by plans to rehabilitate the West Wing's heating and air conditioning". Although "presidential vacations are almost always working, in some sense". And Trump has 2 weeks on Obama at this point in his presidency. Also, Obama spent much more time at Camp David, which was constructed/laid out with security in mind (therefore the cost for a president to stay there is much less). Whereas Trump profits from his much more expensive (to the taxpayer) vacations (Secret Service pays him to stay at his properties!).

Which reminds me of a story I heard about recently... the Washington Post reports that the Secret Service at Trump Tower has "relocated to a trailer on the sidewalk, more than 50 floors below, a distance that some security experts worry could hamper the agency that protects the president's home and family [due to a] dispute... over the terms of a lease for the space".

I didn't know the Secret Service was still at Trump Tower. After Milania and son Barron moved into the White House I thought that cost was going away. Apparently not. The article goes on to say "the Secret Service treats Trump Tower as the president's permanent home, and has a full-time detail to protect it".

BTW, "the U.S. military has separately agreed to lease space in Trump Tower for $130k a month... for the White House Military Office". That's in addition to the space the SS was leasing.

Dervish, the billionaire elitist president costing the American people millions and millions for his lavish, selfish lifestyle.

Jerry, as Infidel753 points out, when Trump's on vacation, he's less likely to screw the country.

Ms. Shaw, After criticism of the previous presidents golf trips to Hawaii and MV Wasn't it you who said even presidents who are on vacation are still working. Has your opinion changed?

Skud, you've missed the point. When Mr. Obama was president, Trump unceasingly criticized him for taking vacations and for golfing. When Trump was campaigning, he declared and promised that he'd not take vacations because he'd love being preznit and love being in the White House --I mean what Trump calls "The Dump." Now that Trump is preznit, he's taken more vacations and done more golfing in 7 months than Mr. Obama has done in 8 years.

This is what the criticism is about --TRUMP'S GALLOPING HYPOCRISY AND BROKEN PROMISES when he said he wouldn't take vacations because he'd so love being in "The Dump" I mean White House.

President Obama never made promises about not taking vacations. Trump did. And Trump broke every single one of them.

I don't know if you deliberately misdirected by saying presidential vacations are working vacations or if you just don't give a flying donut that Trump makes promises and then shamelessly breaks them, making fools out of his supporters -- the suckers who believe his lies.

You are the duped, not the people who supported President Obama.
