INTERESTING TO THINK ABOUT...

One man was a big-time Hollywood producer; the other man is the POTUS.

Weinstein got kicked to the curb (rightly so).

The other man, Trump, is supported, admired, and embraced by the Evangelical Christians who despise everything Weinstein stands for, but look the other way on Trump, and give him a pass.

Ask one of them to explain why that is.

People who've followed the current GOP understand why.

Why Harvey Weinstein is disgraced but Donald Trump is president

The allegations against Weinstein and Trump are strikingly similar.

Why have the outcomes been so different?

Weinstein’s community rejected him — Trump’s hasn’t

In the days after Ashley Judd, Asia Argento, and several other women publicly accused Harvey Weinstein of harassment and assault in the New York Times and the New Yorker, Weinstein was fired from the Weinstein Company and kicked out of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. His brother Bob (who has now been accused of sexual harassment as well) called him a predator and said, “I want him to get the justice that he deserves.”

The allegations against Weinstein and Trump are strikingly similar To date, Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassment or assault by more than 50 women. At least 17 women have accused Trump of harassing, assaulting, or otherwise violating them. Both men have been accused of touching women against their will, of making unsolicited and sexualized comments about women’s bodies, of using their power to coerce women into sex and to protect themselves in the aftermath. Both men have been caught on tape.

In a recording published by the New Yorker, Weinstein appears to admit to groping model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, and pressures her to come to his room. In the infamous Access Hollywood tape released last October, Trump bragged that his celebrity status allowed him to touch women: “When you’re a star, they let you do it,” he said. “Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.” After the tape was released, several women, including Zervos, came forward to say that Trump had done the things he described, kissing and touching them without their consent.

Trump also boasted to Howard Stern about going backstage at the beauty pageants he owned and seeing the contestants naked. “I’m allowed to go in, because I’m the owner of the pageant and therefore I’m inspecting it,” he said. “And you see these incredible looking women, and so I sort of get away with things like that.”

Shaw, I'm still troubled.

Weinstein, Halperin, et al are bad guys. They've stepped over the lines, harassed women and will pay the price. The same will be true for Pres Bush the Elder.

The mainstream media, leaning largely left of center, has been quick to jump on the White House claim that every accuser of the President is lying. Outlets like Huff Post are aghast.

We've returned to the view that all allegations are true. Indeed, where there are a preponderance of accusations, it's as if we have to believe them.

When it comes to Trump, I still believe the left is being disingenuous. We lost our credibility when we gave Pres Clinton a pass. There were plenty of people who accused him of worse than DJT has been accused of. To date, I've heard no rape charges against Trump. I seem to recall HRC waffling on the question of whether accusers of sexual harassment, or rape, should always be believed when she ran for pres. Maybe that was because she remembered how her husband skated around charges.

WJC was no saint. He said plenty of terrible things about women including his jokes about using the back of a pick up truck to get it on. He was accused of rape, settled with other accusers and never once did the left call him a serial abuser. Never once did the left, except maybe Al Gore, consider him unfit for office

NOW backed off all of their recently rediscovered principles regarding trusting women.

Both of these men, DJT and WJC are apparently bad men. Sadly, the left will continue to squander good will and trust with the American people because we will not throw Bill off the bus and admit we were wrong back then.

We look like hypocrites on this... plain and simple.

To make a real comparison, you'd have to assess the likelihood of liberals' not only excusing Weinstein's behavior but deeming him fit to be President. Not bloody likely.

Of course, Evangelicals have lots of precedent for their embrace of Trump. They have decades of experience "forgiving" their own church and cult leaders' being exposed as sexual abusers and money-grubbing con men. The deepest depths of hypocrisy are familiar diving spots for Evangelicals. Trump would fit right in in the company of Jimmy Swaggart, Ted Haggard, and their ilk.

I have.

Dave, there's no question that the left practiced a double standard where it involved WJC and his sexual assaults, and so does the Right. They'll never forget WJC's rotten behavior, but have no interest in investigating Trump's.

Why did Trump defame Summer Zervos? His "grab 'em by the pussy" remarks? Why isn't the Right talking about Trump barging into the dressing rooms of teen beauty pageant competitors? Trump himself bragged that he did it and that the teens were naked, but he owned the pageant so he could do whatever he wanted to -- he's a star, remember?

There's plenty of verifiable incidents out there about Trump's rotten behavior twoard women but when it comes out the Right yells about Clinton.

What all this is about is that men (obviously not all, but a damn too many) believe women are objects for them to do with as they please, from a quick fanny or breast grab to violent rape. Rich, powerful men have been getting away with it for centuries, but I think that's finally changing. Those who grope and assault women will no longer be hidden or tolerated as just big bad boys or engaging in "locker room" bragging.

I think the age of Clinton, Weiner, Crosby, Ailes, Trump, Weinstein, GHWBush, Mark Halperin, and any other violater will no longer be able to hide.

I hope it's true... this age needs to pass...

Infidel, spot on. Dave, yes this age needs to pass, but, there are powerful forces at play working to make sure it doesn't. The opposing forces need to figure out how to "play" it smarter.
