Do you remember...

when Barack Obama was campaigning for the presidency in 2008, and his detractors had a conniption fit over these words?:

"Now, Mizzou, I just have two words for you tonight: five days. Five days. After decades of broken politics in Washington, and eight years of failed policies from George W. Bush, and 21 months of a campaign that's taken us from the rocky coast of Maine to the sunshine of California, we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.

"In five days, you can turn the page on policies that put greed and irresponsibility on Wall Street before the hard work and sacrifice of folks on Main Street. In five days, you can choose policies that invest in our middle class, and create new jobs, and grow this economy, so that everyone has a chance to succeed, not just the CEO, but the secretary and janitor, not just the factory owner, but the men and women on the factory floor."

In those statements by former President Obama, there is nothing about rejecting the US Constitution or overturning any law of the land. Not a whiff. In fact, those statements sound like great ideas for fundamentally changing conditions for Americans for the better. Those statements were clearly put forth by someone seeking the US presidency as an agent for POSITIVE change, not a person who wants to NEGATIVELY "fundamentally change America."

Yet the Right Wing noise machine lost its marbles over a typical campaign speech that does not in any way seek to challenge, change, or overturn the Constitution of the United States.

Now, compare and contrast:

.

The Right Wing noise machine after reading this statement by a former POTUS who hopes to be elected again to the presidency:

**crickets**

In Trump's statement, he, in no uncertain terms, wants to get rid of the US Constitution -- the document that he swore to "...preserve, protect, and defend..." on January 20, 2017.

In his Truth Social rant, it is very clear that for the first time in US history, a former president, now seeking to regain that office, wants to damage, abuse, and attack the US Constitution -- cancel it, in other words -- so he can be reinstated in the Office of the Presidency, the office he resoundingly LOST in the 2020 election.

Where are the folks who lost their marbles over former President Obama's benign words from a campaign speech? Nowhere to be found because those who excoriated Mr. Obama's speech are raging hypocrites whose allegiance is to a corrupt and dangerous anti-Constitutional tyrant instead of their country.

Trump's rant shows that he cares nothing for America nor her laws. Trump's rant shows in distressingly clear words that if he were to gain the levers of power once again, that he'd be even more of a danger to our representative democracy than he was in those four years he wielded power.

I don't expect his supporters to condemn Trump's latest  assault against the Constitution -- they're too spineless and invested in defending the indefensible. They will continue to make excuses for him because admitting that he is a failed human being and failed American would be unbearable for them.

But I'm not one of them, so I can say with certainty that his will be the most loathsome of loathsome names ever written in the annals of American history.

Donald Trump believes we should terminate “all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution” to overturn the 2020 election. That was his view on 1/6 and remains his view today. No honest person can now deny that Trump is an enemy of the Constitution.

It is certainly the most deranged and idiotic political comment in the annals of American history. Trump wants to be president, but he doesn't realize that it's only the Constitution that establishes the office of president. Hell, without the Constitution, there's not much legal basis for the existence of the country itself.

Certainly he can never again credibly take an oath to uphold the Constitution.

I, with absolute certainty, and without hesitation, would gladly follow a leader with the vison of President Obama. A decent honorable man and loving father defines President Obama.

I, with absolute certainty, and without hesitation, would not follow djt to the sewer or garbage dump on one of his best days. A cheat, liar, insurrectionist, and basically a horrible human being defines djt.

The reality of the GOP is that it has become a spineless, gutless, corrupt, dishonest, and an anti-democracy party. Whether it be ignorance or stupidity is hard to say. But what has become increasingly obvious, certainly for me, is that the party of Trump does not have the interests of the American people (other than the very wealthy), or the health of the country as its priority.

May the generation soon to be in power (our grandchildren) be wiser, fairer, more compassionate, understanding, and less greedy than those presently in power. And that goes double for the offspring of the party of Trump.

From the peanut gallery comes this... "Sadly, he [Trump] doesn’t know how to really USE the news as a tool; he just can’t say what would make him win by a long shot, maybe not slamming the Constitution might help, Donald?

That's it?

Maybe not slamming the Constitution?

I guess maybe not. But that's not what he did folks... he called for the termination of the Constitution. Not reforming it, not amending it, not changing it. Terminating it.

And any conservative who typically said President Obama hated America and wanted to end America as we know it, and cannot come out and condemn not only the statements of Trump, but the man himself and all of his enablers in the GOP, is being willingly dishonest and dishonoring America.

Dave M., I read the comments on the Mother Ship and can only shake my head at this as well:

"EVERYBODY: The Capitol Hill GOLD MEDAL CEREMONY is on as I type……what IS this? Have they had ceremonies before like this one before or is this just more Democrat GRINDING into America that IT WAS THE FAULT OF THE REPUBLICANS that people died! Oh, the DARK words, the forboding words, the Oh-SO PATRIOTIC words of….believe it or not…Schumer and Pelosi.!!!! `1/6 couldn’t have been a bigger gift to the Left, could it."

You can see how upset she and her Trumper pals get when the focus is back on that terrible, terrible day -- Jan. 6, when FOR THE FIRST TIME IN AMERICA'S HISTORY, armed mobs of Americans attacked the US Capitol and tried to stop the certification of the electoral college votes because they believed Trump's lies.

That NEVER happened before, and that's why she's seeing this ceremony for the first time. And only she and her pals on that blog get their backs up because they think it was held to shame Trump instead of acknowledging the bravery and courage of the LEOs who were maimed and died in the insurrection against the USA by Trump supporters.

And then she minimizes the deaths, angry because it's all been brought up again.

Here's a woman who believes she loves her country screaming about giving medals to men and women who were injured while the man she supports DID NOTHING TO STOP THE CARNAGE. We've seen on video how it was Speaker Pelosi doing what Trump should have done to protect the US Capitol and its representatives held hostage inside. She never mentions those facts; she only worries about how all of that makes Trump and the Cons look bad.

She and her friends, like many, many other Trumpers on blogs and news sites all over the internet have no freaking idea -- NONE of how horrible their whining and misplaced outrage looks to the rest of us who fully understand the long-term wreckage Donald J. Trump did to America that day, AND IS STILL DOING TO AMERICA with his seditious talk about "terminating" America's Constitution.

Never, never expect rational discussion on that blog. Ever. They're too far gone in Trumplandia and, IMO, irredeemable.

The captain of the Mother ship should take this advice,

It's better to stay quiet and be thought a fool then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

The narcissistic lying conman does it again and his minions don't care. "that he is a failed human being" is an understatement. (as are his minions)

Well, we expected this: Trump has denied he suggested terminating the Constitution, even though it is documented that he said it. His supporters will swallow that obvious lie, and they'll hang on to the next ones he'll tell.

Repeat. Rinse. Repeat.

Trump companies guilty on all 17 counts of fraud and other crimes.

Not Trump himself, but his companies. However, how do you separate the man from the companies that hold his name?

Like in a 3rd World country, Trump's supporters will still say they'll vote for him if he gets the nomination. IOW, no matter how corrupt a liar, cheat, and fraud he and his companies are, they'll always stand up for the crook.

That will be their legacy in American history.

Wouldn't it be fabulous to live long enough to write the complete, accurate history of the Trump years? As well as the decline of honesty, integrity, decency, reason, and compassion in the republican party?

Old Abe Lincoln wouldn't recogonize anything today about the party that he is responsible for getting off the ground. Perhaps it's time the current air is drained out of the party and a new generation of actual principled conservatves start over from scratch and completely rebuild the wreck tha party has devolved into.
