MORE SUNDAY TRUTH BLOGGING

33,000+ deaths from firearms is not just a gun problem, it's a GOP BLOOD MONEY PROBLEM.

May these craven GOP senators rot in hell.

The NRA says guns don’t kill people, but it sure looks like NRA money kills people!

It is true that guns only kill people when in the hands of of a person. A person who uses a weapon to end another's life is a monster unless it is in an act of self defense. I think we can all agree on that, yes?

Having said that, the proliferation of semi automatic guns, high capacity drums, bump stocks, and the ease of securing such weapons in many states is ridiculous and IMO wrong. Trump's gutting of Obama's policy making it more difficult for someone with a history of mental health issue to secure a firearm was both stupid and IMO bordering on criminal.

The NRA pumping money into the coffers of elected politicians so as to secure votes preserving the insanity does indeed make the NRA partially responsible for the carnage we have seen.

We do need constraints on what guns are being sold and to who.
Why when a bomb is set off in Boston, it is the bombers fault, a truck runs into a crowd, it is the drivers fault even a drunk driver kills a pedestrian it is the drivers fault and a women smothers her children with a pillow it is the women's fault. Some nut job kills a bunch of people with a gun and it is the guns fault.
Maybe we should have better control of trucks.

skud, there are approximately 300,000+ firearms in this country, almost one for every man, woman, and child. America has more firearms in circulation than any other advanced country; America has more firearm deaths than any other advance country. That's the problem.

In the US, there are NOT bomb makers for every man, woman, and child; there are not trucks and cars for every man, woman, and child. BTW, truck and car drivers must pass a written and driving test and must be licensed, and they must have their vehicle registered! Guns? No! Your comment sounds like you are ignorant of those facts.

Cruz, who is not able to legally buy a beer in Florida, walked into some store and bought one of the deadliest firearms on the market. And Florida has some of the weakest gun laws in the country.

Here's another fact you can google: states with the laxest gun laws have the most firearm fatalities; states with stricter gun laws have the fewest firearm deaths. And don't trot out your tired Chicago example. Chicago has strict gun laws, but neighboring cities and states do not, and nothing prevents people from those cities and states from bringing in their firearms for ghost sales and to commit homicides.

Your comment is invalid because you are being deliberately obtuse and illogical.

RN and Jerry, I'm not against people owning some guns. I have hunters in my family. I get it.

But the gun proliferation that we have now has brought mayhem and slaughter to our children.

When I was in school, when my CHILDREN were in school, these school and other massacres were not happening! Also. When I was in school and when my children were in school AR-15s were not allowed for sale.

skud, we are not saying it is the gun’s fault. The problem is the proliferation and the ease of acquiring a gun that is the problem. If you don’t not recognize this difference, you cannot recognize the solution.

Shaw, Not to be obtuse but I think you meant 300 Million not 300,000.
BTW, other than that oversight I agree with everything you said.

Jerry Critter said...

skud, Since you have brought cars and trucks into the discussion, I assume you are in favor of the same type of controls on guns that we have on vehicles. That would include:
1. User training
2. User testing
3. User licensing
4. Periodic retesting and relicensing of user
5. Government mandated safety considerations, materials, and controls
6. Government study and oversight of use.
And that’s just a starter of regulations on vehicles.

As far as bombers go, yes we blame the bomber. Bombs are illegal. Should I also assume that you believe guns could be illegal?

Drunk drivers, drunk driving is illegal and we have control on sales and distribution of alcohol. Also there are many programs available to help people with alcohol problems. Are you suggesting that we have social programs to ween people off of their obsession with guns.

And, of course, no one in their right mind blames the pillow when a mother smothers her child...although there are probably some nuts out there that blame the child. It would not be the first time that the victim is blamed for a crime against them.

Yes I do believe gun owners should be registered and have to attend training and be tested. In case you are confused, killing is illegal so your examples are not accurate.
An illegal act means little because Illegal immigrants are Illegal but that means nothing because we just ignore that illegal activity, matter of fact many people think it is OK.

Jerry Critter said...

Of course killing is illegal. I don’t see how that affects my examples, and illegal aliens is a completely different subject and not part of gun control.

skudrunner said...

JC
It is only a different subject if it does not follow your diatribe. You mention a number of issues that are illegal but if we talk about a different illegal issue, that is completely different. Do you favor enforcing all laws of the US or just the ones you agree with?
Killing is illegal but so are illegal immigrants.

Jerry wins the exchange with skud. Hands down. On grounds of logic.
