Wonder why?

$30,000,000 in contributions from the NRA -- that's why.

Meanwhile in Florida, after the Pulse Night Club and Parkland massacres, the Florida legislature tackled the horrifice problem by doing this:

Florida House approves bill to post “In God We Trust” in all public schools

A useless bit of grandstanding by the legislature in a state with some of the laxest gun laws in the country. A state that allowed a 19-year-old who could not buy a beer buy an AR-15.  Those legislators seem to be unaware that when that 19-year-old bought that weapon, the money he used has "In God We Trust" on it.   That slogan was useless in doing anything to prevent a massacre then; it is useless now. A real change in the laws is what's needed. And a majority of Americans agree.

Florida Governor Rick Scott, who loosened gun laws in the state that already has lax gun laws, is now running like a little cockroach that's had light shined on him to distance himself from the NRA.

From the Miami Herald:

Rick Scott Scrambles To Save Senate Bid: Drops Headlining 2018 NRA Leadership Forum

Gov. Rick Scott has become a favorite of the Florida gun lobby during the past seven years by lifting restrictions on guns, preventing doctors from asking patients about their weapons, opposing stricter background checks and cutting the cost of getting a concealed weapon license.

Scott secured backyard gun ranges, expanded a self-defense law known as “stand your ground” and allowed people without concealed weapon licenses to carry guns in emergencies like hurricane evacuations for 48 hours.

The National Rifle Association returned the favor with its highest compliment, an A-plus rating, as the NRA flooded Florida homes with millions of mailers to help Scott clinch re-election four years ago.

Right now in America there are Republicans who received millions of dollars from the NRA accusing CHILDREN who survived a massacre of being PAID to speak out on guns.

Haven't seen that RD but I am sure you are right. Where are the pointing fingers at the parents of the shooters. If they didn't know about an arsenal of guns why didn't they. The latest shooters guardians said they knew but they didn't want to invade his space. The FBI knew but couldn't do anything until he kills someone. Why are we not accusing law enforcement for not following up on accusations about the shooters. Of course we would step on their civil rights but so what. We can't ask someone for identification to show they are in the country legally or to vote but now we are suppose to screen someone because they want a gun.
Arming teachers is ludicrous. They are hired to teach and not be a guard.

That's a great point R.D. I'm totally stealing it. The Florida legislature just punted on guns, but declared porn a health risk.

skud: " Where are the pointing fingers at the parents of the shooters."

SK; Skud, it was perfectly legal for all the young shooters to buy the guns they used for their massacres. I think finger-pointing begins with the officials who are bought and paid for by the NRA for that insane idea: Allowing teenagers to buy military weapons.

skud: "If they didn't know about an arsenal of guns why didn't they."

SK: Again, in America we have told ourselves and our children that they are perfectly within their rights to own military weapons that can be used to massacre people. That's a fact. And the NRA pours money into politicians re-election campaigns so that the pols do nothing about it. What you're complaining about is a culture that the NRA and lawmakers have said is a "god-given" right and protected by the 2nd Amendment. You want to take a teenager's god-given right to own a military weapons capable of killing dozens of people? Do something about it.

skud: "The latest shooters guardians said they knew but they didn't want to invade his space. The FBI knew but couldn't do anything until he kills someone."

SK: Think about this, there are enough firearms in this country for every man, woman, and child, and there are hundreds of disturbed adolescents who have the right to own military weapons, even if they are not allowed to buy a beer, as is the law in Florida. The FBI admitted their dereliction of duty in this case, as they should. But what about the hundreds and hundreds of other disturbed adolescent males who legally own military weapons? Do you propose that the FBI investigate every singal report in every singal city and town in this country to stop another possible massacre? You and I know that's not going to happen, and you and I know there will be another massacre because we have more firearms in circulation than any other advanced country on the planet. It's a bit too late for your outrage. You and others should have been outraged when the NRA and governors like Rick Scott did all they could to make this country an orgiastic free-for-all for every imaginable firearm available under our sacred 2nd Amendment. Don't point the finger at the parents and guardians alone, turn it around and point at anyone who believes unfettered access to any military weapon for teenagers was a good idea.

skud: "We can't ask someone for identification to show they are in the country legally or to vote but now we are suppose to screen someone because they want a gun."

SK: It is a fact that the majority of illegal immigrants are law-abiding. Don't get them involved in this discussion. Also voting isn't the same as owning military weapons that kill. Normally voting doesn't slaughter people, but firearms do. People who own vehicles are subjected to testing, to requiring insurance, to have a license, and to be registered with their state. A car's main purpose is transportation. We make teenagers take driving lessons and tests before they can drive. Cruz bought that military weapon, which only purpose is to kill, without so much as a "how-di-doo." Any country that allows that insanity should not be surprised when massacres occur.

skud: "Arming teachers is ludicrous. They are hired to teach and not be a guard."

We agree on this.

R.D. and Kevin, Leave it to the wingnuts to go after the victims and survivors of a massacre. They have no morality. None whatsoever. They prove it to America every day.

Society is in a mess. Need more guns, fewer regulations, and more praying.

Yup, that should do it. When 300 million guns don't make us safer go for 100 million more.

As few are right are talking about finding real solutions to a real and escalating problem.

Rather than talking about the FBI, where was local law enforcement? I’m sure they had been contacted, probably many more times than the FBI. There is plenty of failure to go around. The failures just point out the inadequacies of the available tools to deal with people like the shooter before they become “the shooter.”

And those tools do not include more guns!

The same can be said for gun owners only the percentages of those who obey the law are much greater. Where is the public outrage about illegal immigrants murdering under gang colors. Maybe it is because they are not white and the left feels they don't matter.

The AR-15 is not a military weapon but a civilian version without an automatic setting. The issue should be high capacity magazines and even if we ban high capacity clips will we enforce the law? We refuse to enforce the laws we have now so what makes you think we will enforce that law.

Jerry Critter said...

Oh skud. Stop with the meaningless pratter and diversion. One, this is not an immigration issue and two, high capacity magazines is a minor issue. The big issue is guns and what we are going to do about the guns, and what we are going to do about keeping them out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them.

skud: "Where is the public outrage about illegal immigrants murdering under gang colors. Maybe it is because they are not white and the left feels they don't matter."

SK: Since gun fetishists don't care that 33,000+ Americans die each year from firearms, do you expect Americans to care about the number of people who die from illegals immigrants' rampages? Do you think the number of Americans killed by them is greater or the same as the number of native Americans who die from firearms, even if the majority of firearm owners is responsible? Since America has accepted 33,000+ deaths as the price to pay for "freedumbs" we enjoy, I wonder why those same Americans don't apply that reasoning to illegal immigrants.

You can read about this subject from a Conservative think tank. The conclusion is that it is too murky to get a clear picture on illegal immigrant murders by firearms. However, that never stops trump from lying about this subject.

skud: "The AR-15 is not a military weapon but a civilian version without an automatic setting."

The AR-15 was the weapon of slaughter for the last 4 or 5 massacres, I'm losing count. I don't give a flying donut about the semantics of this instrument of death. No other country allows children to walk into a store and buy this weapon. That's all that matters to me. I'm done with hearing semantical arguments about what these weapons aare called, their caliber, high magazines, their use, people's 2nd Amendment right to own these weapons, etc., etc. I'm with the children and adults who have had to live through the horror these guns deliver and who want that horror to end.

We are the ONLY supposedly civilized, advanced country in the world that has these massacres on a regular basis.
