To believe Trump after all we've seen the past three + years combined with this crisis and how he has behaved and handled it is, almost to admit one is an idiot.

Somehow those two statements don't make sense. One of his faults is to put ego first because in his mind no one is smarter so why listen to advisors.

At a time when we need to trust a president, we have a president who has a tenuous at best, relationship with the truth. For years the GOP ran against HRC saying she was dishonest and not to be trusted. Someone who lies they said, is not qualified to be in the Oval Office.

And so here we are.

And he's still at it. Everyone who wants a test, can get a test. I always knew it was a pandemic. We have a deal that will get Americans sick leave.

All false.

Why indeed should any American trust what President Trump says?

skud, RN, Dave, I hope you and your families are safe and okay.

I’m doing fine. I have a male companion, a partner, to help me, and whom I help as well. We’re both in the same age group that is vulnerable. I was fortunate to meet him a year ago, and I am happy to have someone who cares and is thoughtful. So I’m not alone.

Reading, listening to music, Netflixing, and taking walks in the country are what helps to pass the time. I cut the cable a few months ago,so I get only my local Boston stations as well as PBS for info, plus online NYTimes and other publications.

My neighborhood, Boston’s Italian section, is quiet. We have over 100 restaurants and cafes here, so you can imagine how the quarantine has affected this area. Local convenience stores, pharmacies, and bakeries are open. We would normally be experiencing streams of tourists at this time of year with the Marathon approaching (it’s been postponed to Sept.) and Patriots, Day coming on April 18.

I hope all is well with you guys. Stay safe and wash your hands.

Ms Shaw, Thanks, good to hear you are doing fine.
I would love to support our local eating establishments if for no other reason than support the staff but the restrictions have made that impossible. Anyone in the market has paper loses but if you have half a brain cell you have lost zero money because you didn't sell anything. The ones hardest hit by this are service workers and they will suffer due to no fault of their own.
We can place blame in several directions but we will get through this.

Netflixing... amazing how we turn words into verbs.

Peace... to both of you.

Dear Anonymous and the other trolls who came here to report this:

I'm not interested in what Trumpers have to say about me.

Meanwhile, how are you and your family coping with the COVID-19? I hope you and your family are getting everything you need.

The wingnuts are more afraid of tRump losing the election than the Coronavirus killing them!

Trumps fault? WHAT?

What HORRID articles so many are writing about Trump and the Coronavirus.
Yes, he says odd things, yes that Weenie (Fauci…I TOLD you he’s a weenie!) put his head in his hands at some of Trump’s comments yesterday and that was noticed and the leftwing media’s loving Fauci now. Yes, Trump is a blowhard much of time who loves to talk about how nobody could handle this as well as HE IS…………HE IS RIGHT.

People are saying WE WERE ILL PREPARED! Ya THINK? Who’d sit around prepared for something as big as this has become? They’re saying Trump laughed this off too long and he and Hannity and other (name the negative adjective) Republicans like Hannity were calling this a hoax, etc., and how stupid could they all have been and wouldn’t we have less deaths if it wasn’t for all of them………….blah blah blah.

We all know nobody had a crystal ball. We all know Trump is almost always hyperbolic and shoots himself in the foot too many times with his BIG mouth. We know also that he loves this country and WANTS THIS OVER WITH.

To blame HIM FOR THE ECONOMY? Are people CRAZY?

Help me here…… HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK TRUMP COULD BE HURT IN NOVEMBER OVER THIS WHOLE SITUATION?

Dave Miller said...

Ray... in response to that post, I'd ask the following...

If the facts are bad, alarming, or undermine official Washington, should they be reported?

Were we unprepared? It certainly looks like it. Again, the post asks who would sit around preparing for something like this? Since the main goal of the federal government is to protect the citizenry of the US, I'd hope every administration would have a team of experts considering this exact thing.

We now know that in fact, the US government knew in late December that storm clouds were looming in China. Was America warned? Somewhat, when President Trump suspended travel from China on January 31, 2020. But then, after that decisive act, President Trump went on a tour of lies misleading the American people about the looming danger the US government was aware of, and warning members of Congress about.

The GOP and their backers ignored those warnings, except to sell their stocks, and kept silent as President Trump mislead us. Democrats, who were in those same briefings, also failed to alert America to the coming problems.

And so here we are.

President Johnson took responsibility for errors related to Vietnam. Nixon for Watergate. Carter for the failure to rescue hostages in Iran. Reagan for Iran/Contra. And on and on for our presidents, all in the tradition of Harry Truman and his desk plate stating "The Buck Stops Here".

All of our presidents until now, have taken the credit for the good that happened on their watch, and the responsibility for the bad as well. Until now. President Trump, as he has stated, takes "no responsibility".

We all love our country. Donald Trump does, Barack Obama does, the GOP does, the Dems do, the Libertarians do. Period.

But it is hard to stand behind and support a president who repeatedly lies to us, misleads us and doesn't even try to be encouraging in troubled times.

Will it hurt him in November?

I hope so, but I doubt it.

Hi Ray, AMERICA,

I love how Trumpers say Trump says "weird things," because they can't bring themselves to admit he says LIES!

I'm not surprised they went after Dr. Fauci, a highly respected expert in infectious diseases. But the fact is that the person who wrote that is a cultist and cultists never seen the flaws in their cult leader. To call Dr. Fauci a "weenie," is just plain moronic. She sounds like the immature Trump who calls his betters names all the time.

No wonder they love Trump, he's as immature and ignorant as they are. They see themselves in him. SAD!

skudrunner said...

Rev, I am not sure all presidents took responsibility for their bad decisions or lack of leadership for American citizens. I won't point fingers but two come to mind and one is trump.

That being said you join the crowd of panicked people. This is a severe situation but as of yet not a panic situation. If you cease listening to the news your blood pressure and overall health would improve. Out of 330 million Americans how many got the flu and how many died, the answer if very few. Out of those who died from the flu how many had compromised health or were in a confined facility like a nursing home, the answer is a lot.

The mediavirus is not a good thing but to take down the world because of it is absurd. One of the problems is people have lost the ability of being reasonable and prudent. The stock market downturn can be attributed to greed. People think I can't get out even though I have a splendid return because I miss an opportunity to earn more. Now those people are crying the blues as are corporations.

It is always easier to blame an individual as we did with the swine flu, sorry no one got blamed for not seeing this coming my mistake. Lets blame the sitting president for all the deaths from flu over the last several decades.

Maybe the real culprit is us for not taking personal responsibility for what is around us, much easier to rely on the government and blame them when we can't think. There will be deaths and that is a shame but there are deaths every day from some illness but we don't panic unless the media says now is the time to panic. How many people do you personally know who have contracted covid-19 and how many of those have died. How many people do you know personally who had the seasonal flu. What makes this scary is, so far, there is no vaccine because it has only been in existence for a few months.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud, I'm afraid you STILL don't understand the Covid-19 virus. Dr. Fauci said it is 10 times worse than "the flu." And it spreads more quickly than the flu. We're still at the beginning of the infection.

US coronavirus cases surpass 10,000, doubling in two days
PUBLISHED THU, MAR 19 202011:00 AM EDTUPDATED THU, MAR 19 20201:41 PM EDT

More than 21,000 cases have been confirmed in the United States, and many more infections are expected in the coming weeks.

Shaw Kenawe said...

That second report of 21,000 is as of TODAY March 21. On March 19 as you can see it was 10,0000 cases. The numbers are exponentially increasing.

A definition of "exponentially" is increasing quickly by large amounts.

Shaw Kenawe said...

"Even if the United States cuts its rate of transmission in half — a tall order — some 650,000 people might become infected in the next two months.

That was the conclusion of Columbia University researchers who used a New York Times database of known cases and Census Bureau transportation data to model how the outbreak could evolve. The estimates are inherently uncertain, and they could change as the United States adopts additional measures to control the outbreak."

Actually Skud... Pres Trump and many GOP partisans did blame Pres Obama for both the Swine Flu and the Ebola crisis.

Nice try though...

I still don’t understand how the “media” is creating a panic from reporting what is going on? What’s panicking people are the frontline doctors and nurses going in front of cameras and stating they are all running out of supplies to keep themselves and patients safe! I don’t know about you but that scares me!! Yes, let’s not listen to the media and then what happens when you or someone you love starts exhibiting symptoms and gets turned away from ERs because they don’t have a test or staff to handle the influx or you don’t fit the criteria.

Apparently, Dr.Fauci may have committed the unpardonable sin of supporting Hillary. That and his perfectly rational response to the Pres. winging it from the podium, a facepalm. Loyalty trumps expertise.

skudrunner said...

Ms Shaw, you are correct there will be a significant number of cases diagnosed because we are getting tests to diagnose them. I think your statistics are not correct with 650,000 becoming infected. Last year 31 million were diagnosed with the flu and 30,000 died.

The good thing about cancelling the world is it will reduce the number of vehicle deaths from 40,000 so that is a positive.

This shutdown is inconvenient for the majority but for some it is a true hardship.
There is a lot of scorn about the way trump is handling this situation and yes his ego gets in the way most of the time. I do believe it was trump who wanted tighter borders and I do believe it was trump who wanted the US to be less dependent on foreign manufacturing and I do believe it was trump who put pressure on China to pay increase tariff's and not just give them our companies to compete against us.

Maybe now people will see that we need tighter borders and better trade policies. That we need to incentivize companies to stay in the US and encourage China to play by the same rules the rest of the world playa by.

Dave Miller said...

Skud... even Dems support a stronger presence/response when dealing with China.

But those are trade policies, and are not really germane as to how Trump, after the China travel embargo, has dealt, or more accurately, not dealt with the current crisis.

Trump has regularly been untruthful in his statements regarding where we stand. These untruths do much to undermine confidence in our federal government and response. For example...

Speaking of the Navy hospital ships he said... "So those two ships are being prepared to go, and they can be launched over the next week or so". He also said the ships were in "tip-top shape."

This is demonstrably false.

Regarding the web site for Covid-19 info he said... "Google is helping to develop a website," and he added, "It's going to be very quickly done — unlike websites of the past — to determine whether a test is warranted and to facilitate testing at a nearby convenient location."

This is demonstrably false.

Regarding virus tests, Pres Trump said "They have the tests. And the tests are beautiful. Anybody that needs a test gets a test." His VP also said "a million tests are in the field" and that "by the end of this week, another 4 million tests will be distributed."

All of these statements are demonstrably false. They are not mistakes made in battle trying to overcome an enemy, they are unforced errors/lies or misstatements.

So... was trump misinformed, wrong or lying? Since these statements are not true, there can be no other explanation. In a Democratic Admin, GOP partisans would be calling for a pres to resign after so many untruths.

Why not now?

Why are you, as you regularly do with Obama's 57 state comment, as snarky and persistent in criticism towards Trump.

Trump's ongoing struggles with the truth have led to questioning his words even in the few times when they are accurate and truthful.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud: "I think your statistics are not correct with 650,000 becoming infected."

skud: "There is a lot of scorn about the way trump is handling this situation and yes his ego gets in the way most of the time."

Sorry, skud, Trump's ego gets in the way ALL OF THE TIME. You and his cultists forget how he spoke about this pandemic in January and February. He claimed it was nothing to worry about, and that there were only "15 cases," and that "soon there will be none."

He wasted time in getting badly needed equipment out to hospitals and he lied to the people about how dangerous this Covid-19 is and told them a vaccine is ready! A terrible lie!

I believe Dr. Fauci, an expert in infectious diseases, when he said Covid-19 is 10X worse than the flu.

I don't know where you get your information. But not taking this seriously is a mistake.
