For People Who Believe Just Because He Was A Brain Surgeon...

Ben Carson would make a fabulous preznit.

His foolish statements on gays, Evolution, and comparing the ACA to slavery and the Obama Administration to Nazi Germany are glaring examples of how being very smart and skillful in one area doesn't necessarily mean one can be smart and skillful in a completely different area.

We understand why the TeaPublicans are so enthralled with Dr. Carson. He has a compelling story: raised by a single mother and in poverty, he realized the American dream of a wildly successful career where he was respected and admired. The TeaPublicans, of course, fail to give any credit to the government programs that rescued Dr. Carson and his family from grinding poverty and failure. He benefitted from programs that he now claims keep African-Americans lazy and with no motivation.

The TeaPublicans, hypocrites that they are, pretend that Dr. Carson attained his phenomenal success all by himself when the fact is without government help, it is unlikely he would have been able to make the most of his talents.  Dr. Carson and the TeaPublicans want to deprive other young men and women like him of that help.

When people admire Dr. Carson, they admire how government programs can and do benefit those who have talent, which in turn benefits America. It's a shame he and his party are afraid to admit this truth. Perhaps they know that would destroy the myths they perpetuate about the poor and helpless.

What Can We Learn from Ben Carson's Brain?Intelligence and education no guarantee of 'good thinking.'Posted Oct 15, 2015

Pay attention to Dr. Ben Carson’s campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. He is presenting America and the world an invaluable lesson on critical thinking. Contrary to a popular assumption, a sharp mind and extensive education do not guarantee good thinking skills. Carson is a glaring example of this.

One can hardly imagine a better case of inconsistent thinking and misapplied brain power in the public arena today. Carson, a successful brain surgeon and Yale graduate, is obviously intelligent and well educated.

Yet he continually says things that any clear-thinking high school kid would cringe at. He mocks the Big Bang Theory as absurd. (Like all theories, the Big Bang Theory is a work in progress, of course, but it is based on solid scientific evidence.) He says Charles Darwin was under Satan’s control when he developed the Theory of Evolution. ( (And what’s your evidence for this extraordinary claim, Dr. Carson?)

He thinks moral behavior in humans somehow proves the existence of his particular god. (This is a popular but silly notion. Bonobo chimps exhibit moral behavior, too. Does this prove the existence of a little hairy bonobo god?) He claims to believe in micro-evolution but not macro-evolution. (This seems to me like believing in house fires but not forest fires.)

[Last] week Bill O’Reilly asked Carson whether or not he believes the Earth is 6,000 years old. Carson replied, “I don’t know how old the Earth is.” (Look it up! Have you so little curiosity about your home? Overwhelming evidence points to an age of about 4.6 billion years, as every middle school student with a competent science teacher knows.)

All true. However I doubt very much it will change the minds of those who believe he would make a good president. Folks who believe will most likely continue to believe.

the Teapublicans are atteacted to Carson because he's a TeaPublican black guy who talks like them. he was a brain surgeon who has made an ass of himself in politics. they're always attravcted to asses: Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Ben Carson. These are the jerks they think are super politicians. Yeah. A guy who says Darwin was influenced bhy Satan? Yeah. That'll work. The stupids of the Stupid Party really like stupidity.

He illustrates how a person can be brilliant in one area and still ignorant about others. The same person could easily be brilliant at astrophysics and a dunce at car maintenance (or vice versa).

In Carson's case, too, he's a devout Seventh Day Adventist and may well have such a strong emotional bias against things that contradict the Bible, such as evolution or the big bang theory, that he lets that bias overwhelm his rational judgment and rejects the evidence or carefully avoids learning about it.

Any scientist recognizes that scientists are just as subject to having their judgment distorted by personal biases as anyone else is -- that's why valid scientific experiments have to be "double-blinded" to filter out experimenter bias. A doctor is not the same thing as a scientist, of course, but the principle is the same.

Some wingnut wrote: "yes and his mother used those programs in a positive way,and showed her children a better way, instead of making them think they are a way of life, cradle to grave entitlement, which the democrats would like in order to keep a nice voting base for themselves."

This is why we think these people are not the sharpest. Carson used government programs all the way to and through college. The person who wrote that lie doesn't mention that Carson grew up in public schools, got public housing and food stamps, got free glasses from a government program, was helped by Affirmative Action, and got Pell Grants for college.

That government assistance go Carson his start in life and now he wants to take those same programs away from other underprivileged kids. Kids who may have talent, like he did. He's a selfish, narrow-minded, misguided Gooper. Just the the person who wrote that quote.

That's all in the past. He prayed and God told him he was wrong to accept government assistance. As wrong as when he stabbed a classmate.
