Sometimes the worst can bring out the best in people

#StrandedInUS: Americans Open Homes to Strangers Stuck After Paris Attacks

And this from Alternet:

Muslims Around the World Condemn Paris Attacks

Outpouring of grief shared by people of all faiths and no faith.

Muslims from around the world are making it clear ISIS does not represent their values. Iran's Supreme Leader Hassan Rouhani denounced the attacks, postponing his trip to Europe to renew peace talks on the Syrian conflict.

The largest Muslim group in the United States, CAIR, quickly condemned the attacks, insisting, "These savage and despicable attacks on civilians, whether they occur in Paris, Beirut or any other city, are outrageous and without justification." The US Council of Muslim Organizations released a statement also condemning the attack. Thousands more Muslims took to Twitter to express sorrow, solidarity and solace. A good breakdown can be seen here and here.

Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, the president of Indonesia, the largest Muslim country on earth, roundly condemned the attacks, telling reporters, "Indonesia condemns the violence that took place in Paris." In a now-viral video on YouTube, a Moroccan man expressed his condolences to the victims, saying, "These so-called jihadists only represent themselves."

And many times the worst brings out the very worst in people:

Visit any of the far right news sites and Tea Party blogs and read that they are urging America to respond with barbarity and carnage after a heinous attack in Paris of barbarity and carnage. They urge western civilization to wipe out, destroy 1.6 billion Muslims. The sort of people who think like that want to lead this country and be in control of our very substantial military. Kill All The Muslims! (Vermin!) so say many of the Goopers, and that will solve the problem. It is no wonder that political mental midgets like Trump and Carson are their darlings.

Here's a sample of their twisted thinking:

Close the mosques, outlaw the practice of Islam, confiscate the wealth of ALL Muslims, and start internment and deportation of ALL Muslims.

These people, in response to being scared out of their minds, would have America become a fascist state. As soon as they smell their own fear, theyabandon all pretense of being Americans and valuing what America stands for. They are not patriots, even if they thump their chests and wave the American flag at every chance they get to one-up their fellow citizens in displays of patriotism. When the difficult moments come that test America's resolve to be true to liberty and justice. and equality, they fall for what the hordes and armies of the past did -- punished everyone for the monstrous acts of the few in a tribe. It is exactly what people who do not care about justice do. It's what cowards do.

America invaded Iraq after Saudis attacked us on 9/11.  What is happening today is the direct result of that colossal blunder. How does the Gooper Tea Party plan to get rid of 1.6 billion people?  Maybe Donald Trump can tell them since he has a plan to deport 11 million people to Mexico and then build a wall on our southern border that Mexico will pay for.  Donald's the go-to guy for hare-brained ideas.

Here's another example of tragedy bringing out the best in people. Parisians immediately lined up to donate blood after the attacks.

Here's an example of a particularly nasty GOPer with the mentality of a cup of custard:

"Deport all moslems, close the mosques, respond with nukes when the savages attack civilization, Else they win. I only hope they kill the libtards first.

Man those morans have nothing but fear and hate in their hearts, no wonder young people want nothing to do with them.

The problem is not they have fear and hate in their hearts as the heart is not an organ of cognition. The problem is they are near brain dead, their brains are functioning only with the autonomic nervous system working.

Now we need the clerics to condemn it and they need to yell it loud and clear. I won't hold my breath though

This is exactly what America did after 9/11. We invaded a country that had nothing to do with the attack and killed 100's of thousands of innocent people, as the whole country cheered on.

Hey Anon@7:22 are you as sensitive about Christian clerics in the USA who say gays should be put to death as you are about Muslim clerics?

No. I didn't think so.

Bad link. Here it is.

Actually Anon, they've already done so. Even Imans from France were at the memorials condemning the violence and ISIS...

What exactly do you want them to do?

If silence equals assent, as conservatives have claimed since 9/11, does it also equal consent here in the US... or, to put it another way, if a conservative presidential says Mexico is sending rapists and criminals to the US by way of illegal immigration, is it fair for us to believe all the other candidates believe the same thing if they do not publicly condemn those views?

This is the logical extension of your position regarding Islamic clerics, even before we deal with the fact that you are asking for something those very leaders across the world, have done.

I found myself agreeing with most of President Obma's statements/responses to questions during this morning's news conference. Now wait for the response from the GOP neo con howler monkeys.

In case you haven't read what the nitwits are posting about the Muslim community:

"None of them are coming out comdemning the vermin. This speaks volumes. None of them have any problem with the violence against the innocent to the point they’d go on record with it. How many mosques are in the US? 100,000 ? Not a peep from any of these moslem vermin? In this environemnt? Don’t you think some ONE of them would at least provide lip service to put forth the idea that not all moslem vermin are moslem vermin ?
Seriously. If you were moslem vermin and in this environment would you not reach out to “your cvommunity” in order to distance yourself from the moslem vermin???? Why have they not?

We can only conclude they are on board with murder. Someone convince me otherwise – good luck. Mind. Boggling.

This is one of the main reasons I have no problem killing each and every one of them. Somebody give me the button."

These folks actually VOTE! Either they're deliberately ignorant or they simply don't know how to read or use the internet. Either way, they are monumental dumbasses:

There's a very good reason for calling the T-GOP the Stupid Party, for it's obvious from the nitwit who wrote that first quote above that they are idiots.

The Wank Files said...

The only thing the people on those wacked out TParty blogs know is hate, contempt, and more hate, especially for President Obama. Hate is the fuel that drives them to say the stupid things like the person who said no Muslims condemned the Paris massacres, that and their bottomless stupidity. I have to qualify this by saying it isn't all conservatives -- there are plenty of them that are rational and thoughtful, but the ones that have taken over the GOP are about as stupid as stupid can get. Think about the two jackasses they're supporting for the presidency, that tells you all you have to know.

Stupid things...

Here's what we know... many conservatives, at least from the extreme edge, are choosing to not believe truth that does not conform to their worldview. They've determined that Muslims are not going to condemn the attacks on France so they can't be bothered if they do. Or, they set up a narrative where any sympathy shown by Muslims and their leaders, is seen not as true sympathy, but rather as a ploy so the west will drop her guard.

From that same blog there are those who previously saw great leadership in GW Bush when he declared himself the Decider and said he wouldn't change anything he did, and could see no mistakes in his actions. Yet when President Obama essentially stakes out the same ground, he's arrogant.

Fascinating, isn't it?
