This is the America I want to live in:

Many educators as well as other decent Americans, trying to counter the malignant hatred and threats unleashed by Trump during his campaign and encouraged by his election, have resorted to assuring all those whom Trump denigrated during his toxic campaign that they are valued and that not all Americans wish them harm:

Here are some examples, via Digby, of human decency:

Dear undocumented students, in this classroom, there are no walls.

Dear black students, in this classroom, your life matters.

Dear Mexican students, you are not rapists or drug dealers.

Dear female students, men cannot grab you.

Dear Muslim students, you are not terrorists.

And this:

If you wear a hijab, I'll sit with you on the train.

If you're trans, I'll go to the bathroom with you.

If you're a person of color, I'll stand with you if the cops stop you.

If you're a person with disabilities, I'll hand you my megaphone.

If you're an immigrant, I'll help you find resources..

If you're a survivor, I'll believe you.

If you're a refugee, I'll make sure you welcome.

If you're a veteran, I'll take up your fight.

If you're LGBTQ, I won't let anyone tell you you're broken.

If you're a woman, I'll make sure you get home ok.

If you're tired, me too.

If you need a hug, I've got an infinite supply.

If you need me, I'll be with you.

All I ask is that you be with me, too.

NOT THIS ONE:  THE AMERIKKKA  OF DONALD J. TRUMP:

A White Nationalist Is The New White House Chief Strategist

Steve Bannon, who stoked the flames of alt-right fury while running Breitbart News, is headed to the presidential inner circle.

Trump now says that marriage equality is not in danger, because the supreme court already settled it, and that's that.

In the same interview, he talks about overturning Roe v Wade.

Don't believe a word he says. About anything.

If Drumpf said it was night, I'd have to go outside to make sure. That's how much of a damn liar he is.

Appointing the Breitcrap guy? Talk about bringing the country together.

I'm with Michael K.
He will be backing off many of his promises when he finds out he simply cannot do them. The president is not a dictator like some private businessmen. He has to follow law. He has to get money from Congress. He has to meet Constitutional requirements. He wants to remain somewhat popular, so he can get things done. A lot of what he is saying is already Obama policy and working. He wants to tweak the ACA, that was Clinton's plan. Of course he will do ugly things. He will lie to Americans. A typical Republican.

Some times you get the country that other people vote for.

Mike K., If marriage equality is "settled law," then so is the right to choose. He can't say one is and not the other.

Bluebull, It is true that Trump proved to be a championship liar.

Sal, He's not going to instantly repeal the ACA or the Iran deal, as he promised. He can't overturn marriage equality. It remains to be seen if he acts like a tin-pot dictator and goes after his opponent and throws her in jail, as he promised.

Jerry, our only consolation is knowing that more Americans wanted HER than wanted the Short-Fingered Vulgarian.

He's already whining about not wanting to live in Washington DC, but prefers his Louis XIV gilded penthouse to the People's House.

BB-Idaho, Trump has shown America and the world that he knows nothing about governing, and even less about bringing America together. The Goopers thought Mr. Obama was a racist and caused divisiveness in the country?

Trump's choice for "chief strategist" is an anti-Semitic, white supremacist. How's that for bringing us together?

I agree, I have been living with that for eight years. As BHO did in 2008, DJT did in 2016. Play to your base and win the election then do what you want.
BHO has been the special interest president. Hopefully DJT will be the every American president. The special interest and rich did very well the last eight years. Now maybe we can rebuild the middle class.
He won't overturn roe/wade and he shouldn't. Like he said on 60min, the law is the law so move on. He won't repeal obamacare but he will get rid of some ofe the ridiculous aspects of it and I think will make it stronger. He has already stated he will keep pre-existing conditions and kids can be on their parents plan. I haven't heard his opinion on men having pregnancy coverage but I hope he keeps it.

Skud... President Obama campaigned on universal health care. So he went for it. He made a judgement that a country that gave him a 7% win, nearly 10 million votes and an overwhelming 365-173 electoral college vote, a Dem Congress and a 60 seat Dem Senate was giving him a mandate to enact his and the Democratic Party's policies.

But apparently mandates, as we have seen from the GOP, only count when they win. In this election, Trump lost the popular vote, lost seats in the House, has a small electoral edge and a 52 seat Senate and yet for some reason that is seen by the GOP as a mandate. Really? Why is that?

Can you give a straight non snark answer? Is it possible?

Of course President Obama has special interests. And he ran on them, front and center. too bad the GOP chose not to work together on one single point of legislation.

As for Roe v Wade being settled law, it is til it ain't. Once there are 6 conservative judges, lawyers will start bringing cases designed to challenge that reality and then it will not be settled law. Because the GOP only likes "Stare Decisis" when it works in their advantage, which is almost never in a constantly changing and evolving world.

rRump is a first rate con man. His supporters have been conned and so has the rest of the nation.

It really is only about his brand. It's all The Narcissist In Cheif elect really cares about.

Maybe he'll have his likeness added to Mt. Rushmore by executive order. :-)

Skud,

Trump may have bamboozled you, but not millions of thinking Americans.

I look at how a person has conducted himself in life to see what that person may do in the future.

trump is 70 years old. He's led a life of privilege and conning people. You may overlook a person's character, but I won't.

He's cheated and conned and lied his way to the presidency. He's facing a racketeering/fraud court case -- the first president in the history of America to ever be proud to have that happen. He also is facing a few thousand other court cases -- again another first for an American president. The child rape case was dropped, and we don't know why his accuser did so, but it is curious that she did just before the election.

We do know from others who have dealt with trump that he is a craven, lazy, spoiled man who needs to win no matter who he destroys or hurts. He's a man who, even married to a beautiful woman, bragged about screwing other women, bragged about screwing other married women. He's a man who had no problem with a shock jock calling his young daughter "a piece of ass," in front of him. What sort of a father does that? I'll tell you, a man who has no character, no honor, no anything that normal husbands, fathers, and decent human beings have.

Just look at who he's surrounded himself with. Steve Bannon is an anti-Semite and White Supremacist. People who called Mr. Obama every filthy name in the book as well as slandered his wife now can sit back and be proud of the sort of people who will be in the People's House.

The republicans lust for power is forced them to vote for frump even if they think he's unqualified, a Clown, and even dangerous. They see no big deal because they believe they'll keep the Senate majority and will have free reign to do anything and everything to our Democracy their evil hearts desire. THAT, my friends, is petrifying...Social Security is at risk, Obamacare is at risk, our national security is at risk, your taxes are at risk, our environment is at risk, clean energy, clean air, clean water as a RIGHT NOT PRIVILEGE is at risk...

republicans are the Un-Patriotic America hating FRAUDS!!!

Ducky: "Notice that Marty Walsh called for Boston to become a sanctuary city?"

Yes, that, and THIS!

How else can we respond to a proto-fascistic government? A freakin' anti-Semite, white supremacist is one of trump's closest advisors. And his veep is an anti-gay bigot. Am I watching an Oliver Stone movie?

Shaw Kenawe said...

trump and his fascistic administration is what the Goopers have been dreaming about. Remember how he was "real change?" He's hiring old re-treads from the Bush administration and lobbyists. We knew he was a bigly liar, but now his supporters are finding it out as well. He will not repeal Obamacare, same sex marriage, the Iran deal. He will not build that wall and make Mexico pay for it, and he won't put Hillary in jail. He talked crap to get elected and now he's giving it to his supporters all tied up in a big red bow. LOL!

Dave, all that is true. All that and what my Italian grandmother used to say:

"Mi mostri i Suoi amici ed io gli diremo Lei è chi. Show me your friends and I'll tell you what kind of person you are."

All I need to know to close the case on why I believe Trump is a proto-fascist is that he has Steve Bannon as a close advisor and strategist. An anti-Semite and White Supremacist. The Party of Lincoln has made its final descent into the cesspool of history.

Sorry skud. That won't be happening. Trump is starting to fill his team with insiders and lobbists, the very people he said he would throw out, plus his longtime racists and white supremacists advisors. You've been had!

By my count he has at least a 9 out of 14. Your tally may vary.

The names of potential Sec State should send a shudder down the spines of all Americans.

John [invade Iran] Bolton and Rudy Giuliani?

These are the names of those great advisors trump could not share during the campaign?

Sarah Palin? Oil industry execs?

Is it any wonder their names were kept under wraps?

About the only person qualified from his advisors for a cabinet level position might be Ben Carson for Surgeon general or Dept of HHS.

Is it so much of a stretch to believe that if the paper or publication of which you are the editor in chief publishes an article, any article, you are generally in agreement with that article? If Bannon is not extreme, in the words of Ricky Ricardo, he's got some splainin' to do...

Boston should become a sanctuary city and should be proud of it. Give the finger to the man and to hell with laws.
