The last of the moderate Republican leaders and that's a loss for America.

Republicans get to claim him as one of their own, but that rings hallow as we watch what the Republican party has turned into.

Trump's words were nice, but they ring hollow also. Trump spent years bashing Bush.

If Trump's "words" were respectful and kind, you can be sure he didn't write them. Trump's tributes for other people are always about himself.

I wonder if President HW Bush asked that #45 NOT be invited to his memorial service. He and his wife disliked Trump for how he bashed their son, Jeb.

Fairness seems to be a thing of the past. To be fair is to tell the truth and the truth is that President George HW Bush was really a one of a kind President. He didn't play the "Party" game but did what he thought was best for the Country. And for that I applaud him.
May He Rest In Peace..

Jerry... I'm with you. I doubt Trump wrote those words. They're too graceful, especially for someone who has tweeted this in the past about #41... "Thousand points of light. What does that mean? I know one thing. “Make America Great Again” we understand. “Putting America first” we understand. “Thousand points of light,” I never quite got that one. What the hell is that? Has anyone ever figured that one out? It was put out by a Republican, wasn’t it?"

Clearly the speechwriter wasn't aware of Trump's prior words, or didn't care.

BB... I'm with you. GHW Bush was 100% right. Reaganism was indeed about "Voodoo economics." Thank God he passed those tax increases late in his term. They set the tone for growth of the economy during the Clinton years.

Bush was a great man. I'm proud to have voted for him

Could anyone else have pulled off the Kuwait invasion coalition? Doubtful.

Sad that the extremists are slamming him as a globalist who didn't put America first.

From the WAPO...

"In the summer of 1990, Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein [gambled] that he could steal neighboring Kuwait and Bush wouldn’t stop him. Over the next seven months, Bush orchestrated a masterpiece of prudent leadership, drawing on the résumé that made him perhaps the best-prepared president ever. The former congressman handled the politics of building a bipartisan consensus in Washington. The former U.N. ambassador patiently walked the United Nations through one resolution after another, tightening the screws on Hussein. The former director of the CIA foresaw the intrigues of Middle Eastern politics and cut off Hussein’s attempts to exploit them. The former envoy to China won Beijing’s passive approval of “all necessary means” to liberate Kuwait.

Last week when Russia and Ukraine went at it, admit it, we were concerned. Because the current president is nowhere near as ready, qualified or levelheaded as President Bush was.

That paragraph sums up 41 rather nicely.

Mr. Bush was a gentleman, a statesman, a hero and professional man. He is perhaps the last of his breed.

Our politics is now spilling over with amateurs, braying asses, hooting loonies and PT Barnums huckstering the snake oil to the rubes.

George Bush's generation went to work every day--whatever that work was--with a serious sense of purpose.

Rest in God's peace, Mr. Bush

Any chance #45 will learn from #41's superior intellect, experience, character, and accomplishments?

Not a chance!!

RIP Mr. President...

In case you have seen this yet Shaw.
Former FBI Director James Comey ended a legal battle with House Republicans on Sunday, announcing that he will testify behind closed doors on Capitol Hill this week after receiving assurances that a transcript of his interview will be released to the public.

Bet he struck a deal probably sold h
