President Biden's SOTU

I thought it was strong, even fiery at times, and just what Biden needed to do to quash the idea that he's "sleepy."

Here's what the 2024 election is really about:

Authoritarian retribution with Trump.

Democracy with Biden.

It's that simple.

Oh, I almost forgot:

Alabama Senator Katie Britt's rebuttal to the SOTU:

Notwithstanding all her ranting about the border, she voted against the bipartisan border security bill that the Republicans tanked after DT told them to.

Joe knocked it out of the park!

I'm loving the MAGAts whine about Biden's "mean speech". He gave them the scolding they richly deserve.

Katie Britt's response was as devoid of mind, heart and life as her empty kitchen set from IKEA.

She sounded just like a submissive cult wife, with her sniveling "fundie baby voice".

I'm sure Michelle Dugger would approve.

Biden did what he needed to do.

If he fired up democrats and independents (independents hold the key) all across the fruited plains we just might have another 4 year long successful run. And with a little luck a unified government in the capable hands of payriotic and sensible democratic leadership.

Well, we can hope anyway.

A lot will depend i think on how successful President Biden is at sustaining the fire and momentum he showed last evening.

As tRump babbles incoherently his rage at being called out by a far more intelligent and capable man.

Great speech from Biden. Sad rebuttal from Ms. Britt but hypocrisy is a foreign concept to most republicans. Ironic since they hate foreigners except for Melania but they've seen her naked so that makes it okay with them. And she did marry for the money so they respect that as well.

Dave Miller said...

So... did Biden yell a lot of his speech? Yes he did. I think when he's speaking forcefully, or in this case, yelling, I think he better controls his stutter.

Did he have some flubs? Yes he did.

Peggy Noonan who has been critical of Biden in the past, likening him to a "cranky old Joe" likened him to Harry Truman and his "give 'em hell" persona. Noonan, the speechwriter for Reagan who penned Reagan's famous Boys of Pointe de Hoc 40th anniversary of D-Day speech.

Did he get his message across? I guess we'll see. But ask yourself this...

No GOP person stood at Biden's call to oppose Putin. Not. A. One. Reagan is rolling over in his grave.

When Biden spoke of the importance of democracy here and abroad, they remained sitting.

When he spoke of the recent border bill that the GOP asked for and negotiated, he was called a liar. But GOP Sen Jim Lankford, who authored the bill, nodded in agreement with Biden and mouthed to Biden, "it's true."

When he asked for America to stand against political violence, the GOP sat still.

When he said you cannot love America only when you win, not a single GOP member stood in agreement.

When Biden said we are and we need to "buy American", not a single GOP member stood in agreement.

When he asked to lower the cost of medicines like insulin for Americans, not one GOP member stood in agreement.

They sat mostly in stony silence. All. Night. Long.

And they sat, fully on display to the American people as the recalcitrant people they are.

Perfect speech? Not at all. Pretty good? It looked like, flubs and all.

Dave Miller said...

Let's add this... All through the 2020 campaign, Trump spoke about how his long rallies and speeches were evidence of his vitality, strength and command of the issues.

Biden spoke last night for 77 minutes.

Now they're complaining he was too energetic or on drugs.

Why the flip flop?

Dave Miller said...

Shaw... regarding Sen Britt...

She was part of the team that negotiated the border bill. Which she supported. Until Fmr President Trump said he did not want the border problems Skud regularly mentions, solved.

So she stood against her own bill.

And then railed against the Dems for failing to solve the border crisis.

You'll also notice that as a resident of Alabama, she had nothing to say about whether a person has a right to access IVF to start a family. Like former VP Mike Pence did. Like millions of other Americans have done.

Because if you've signed onto the 'fetal personhood" movement within the "Pro-Life" movement, you're stuck having to oppose IVF too.

Unless you choose to oppose the goals of the anti Roe crowd.

And they sat silent and unresponsive to all the other statements Biden made that were totally pro-democracy/American.

I can only come to the logical conclusion that the current Republican Party (Trumpublican Party) is an anti-democracy, pro-Russian/Putin, anti-women party. They are a minority.

And yes, Ronald Reagan and every true Republican who existed before Trump defiled and destroyed that party, agrees with the fact that Trump and his cultists are on a trajectory to completely and fundamentally change this country into their version of a Christian Nationalist state, IF they regain the WH.

We saw that last night by their appalling anti-democracy/American behaviors.

That befuddled and intellectually-challenged woman, MT Greene is just one example of how far into the gutter the GOP has fallen.

Joe was dynamic and on his game last night. He blasted away the idea of "sleepy" Joe, and replaced it with "Give 'em Hell Joey!"

Meanwhile, the nominee for the Republican Party, Trump the Adjudicated Rapist, was grubbing around looking for a donor to help him pay the $91 million bond to file notice to appeal in the E. Jean Carroll case.

The bond was needed to prevent Carroll's attorneys from trying to seize Trump's assets while he appeals a New York jury's $83 million defamation verdict.

Excuse me while I snicker.

Absolutely.

Let the Republicans put their nominee out there so the American people can see the difference between a president who believes in America and democracy and Trump, who uses words like Hitler did, "vermin," "poisoning the blood of our people," and telling Putin to "do whatever the Hell he wants."

We have a choice between a man who believes in America and democracy or a man who echoes Adolph Hitler's words and admires a murderous dictator.

I can't believe we've reached this point at this time in our country's history where we're even TALKING ABOUT THIS SORT OF CHOICE!!!!!

President Biden delivered the goods time and time again and some previous Biden voters are considering Trump?

Trump was the only president ever to leave office with a net loss of jobs produced. He couldn’t even navigate the pandemic, advising people to inject bleach as a cure. He's also an adjudicated sexual assaulter/rapist and tax fraudster and is facing 91 felony counts.

If you want to understand how Trump has taken a once proud political party and forced it into a sewer, just read that again.

Can you imagine in our lifetimes having those words written about someone running for the highest office in the land? And people actually considering voting for the crook?

Trump supporters have shown us exactly how they would have behaved in 1930's Germany. They are neo-Nazis by most measures.

America First activist Tyler Russell explains what the white nationalist neo-Nazi base really wants: "We don't want freedom. We want a total Trumpian Reich. We want dictator Trump. ... And we want all these people who are traitors to this nation to go to jail."

I'm sure Kremlin agent -FJ/Joe Con would agree, but not admit it, of course.

Shaw, why would a multibillionaire need help in posting a measly 90 million payment?

That's only 2% of his stated net worth.

That's the equivalent of 20K bail for a millionaire.

It ust doesn't seem like much. Gotta wonder why he's struggling to make the payment. Besides, as he claims, he's innocent and is certain to prevail on appeal.

None of it makes sense to the average lunch pail guy. Or girl!

I've read that the Chubb Company put up the bond for Trump.

Apparently Trump isn't a billionaire.

"NEW YORK — Donald Trump on Friday secured a bond for more than $91 million to cover the judgment in writer E. Jean Carroll’s defamation case while he appeals.

A document was posted in federal court memorializing Trump’s agreement with Chubb, the insurance giant that underwrote the bond to cover the $83.3 million in damages that a jury awarded to Carroll whom Trump defamed in 2019 when he was in office. The jury determined the award in January.

The bond still has to be approved by the judge overseeing the case, U.S. District Court Judge Lewis A. Kaplan. Once it’s signed by the judge, the bond will prohibit Carroll’s attorneys from collecting from Trump while the appeal process plays out.

It was not clear from court records what collateral Trump presented to obtain the bond from Chubb."

Dave Miller said...

Mike... I hope you note the irony of the GOP having a woman give the rebuttal from her kitchen...

Rev, "Shaw, why would a multibillionaire need help in posting a measly 90 million payment?"
I do hope you know the answer to that and that is not a rhetorical question. I know you work in a business who gives American tax dollars to other countries but you should have a basic business knowledge and if not there are courses on line you can take.

Les Carpenter said...

So skud, take obe yourself. You could use it.

JoeBama "Truth 101" Kelly said...

Ridiculous and evasive answer to Shaw's query Skuds. But the answer is Trump's business is in reality a lousy business to be in. Hospitality is an over leveraged business subject to the whims of the economy. Trump and many like him operate on borrowing and cash flow. They really don't have much cash laying around. Their premise is to simply borrow more to maintain a lifestyle. Success to Trump is measured by how much he can get a bank to lend him. I have no idea what properties he owns or has interest in are worth. But I would be pretty confident his actual net worth is either quite low or even in a negative state. But he's an expert in getting someone to float him money. Gotta give him that. Just like he exploits bigots, homophobes and religious zealots by telling them the crap they want to hear. Doesn't say much for the banks that are willing to buy into his line of big profits if they lend him money the balance sheets show they shouldn't be lending him. But hell, all walks of life have their share of idiots willing to buy into the nonsense they like to hear.

At least joey b didn't fall over but his lack of reading skills was apparent. I be a winner not really, what does that mean. Of course he has to bring in his son's death but at least he didn't bring up that awful skillet catching fire. He blames the border on the republicans when he has the authority to close the border but doesn't want that. He started his administration with a fairly secure border and he opened it from day one. Funny how he takes a bow for gas being down $1.60 a gallon but only after he caused it to raise $3.00. I am glad to see the millions laid off because he shut down the country and caused massive layoffs get jobs again. The immigration bill is severely weak so they shouldn't pass it. The border closed only when 5000 people a day cross illegally.

Yes Ms Shaw, joey b even called them illegal but you don't seem to admit they are.

Joe101, My response was to the rev not to Ms Shaw which you will see if you read it. I understand leslie not getting it but for a wrestling promoter I thought you would. I hope you had nothing to do with their finances.

JoeBama "Truth 101" Kelly said...

I appreciate your long go to method of deflection Skuds. Your consistency is laudable. You're much like a rhubarb pie. Nobody wants to eat the nasty thing but we admire someone that baked it well.
And the republicans that helped write the bill liked it till Trump told them not to. So much for your silly remark about it being weak. Have a good weekend my friend from the right.

Les Carpenter said...

There is no such thing as an illegal person skud. Zero. Nada. None. Too bad you're unable to see that. But yeah, i know, you're a con.

Legal people, who are undocumented, illegally crossed the Mexican United States border and when apprehended will be deported to their country of orgin.

How's that skud? A truthful statement that does use demeaning characterization of people.

And skuddie buddy, i get it a hell of a lot better than you do or likely ever will.

Dave Miller said...

Skud, are you off your meds? What does this comment of yours even mean?

"I am glad to see the millions laid off because he [Biden] shut down the country and caused massive layoffs get jobs again.

The fact is this... even after the jobs lost to the Covid pandemic shut down, ordered by then President Trump, were recovered, the current job expansion beyond that number is one of the longest and largest in recent American history.

Americans are making more money everyday above inflation than they/we have in years.

For the first time in a generation the income gap between between the top and the bottom percentiles of wage earners is shrinking.

The list goes on and on Skud.

You and your views are simply not rooted in facts or reality.

Now I know you or the other trolls will return with some snark about how my figures are wrong, made up or are not to be believed. And that's fine. It's a free country.

But when you do, please do not post stupid links to videos telling us why those statistics are not to be believed, rather post links to actual numbers and statistics that you trust, believe and accept.

PS... I'm sorry you are angry about the fact that some of us choose to, or believe we are called by our creator to work at helping other people. And in so doing, make smaller salaries and often have no retirement. And I'm sorry that you are angry that maybe Shaw, or someone else might save a few pennies in taxes because they chose to give some of their money, or riches to help folks like us, or some other charity make the world a better place.

You should ask yourself why it bothers you.

skudrunner said...

Rev, I have no issue with you spending money in a foreign country and not in your own to help the less fortunate. That is one of the reasons we should eliminate all tax deductions and go to a Fair Tax system.

Leslie, The great leader identified them as illegals so I guess you have stepped out of line on this one.

JoeBama "Truth 101" Kelly said...

With Skuds on the fair tax system as opposed to what we have now. If it was combined with a wealth tax. Not big on charitable deductions either. Are you giving for the sake of giving or for a tax deduction?

Les Carpenter said...

It may be you standing in line skud, as you project.

But me? I haven't the time or inclination. But do have a nice day while you do whatever it is that you do.

skudrunner said...

JoeT, I think charitable giving should be just that. I never ask for a receipt and do not take any deduction on my income tax filing. Like you, I support the notion that everyone should pay their fair share but I believe the rich pay more than their fair share. It is always to give away something you don't have.

Les Carpenter said...

And there it is. In full bloom. Nice try skud. But an epic fail.

JoeBama "Truth 101" Kelly said...

The wealthiest benefit the most from our system and the protections it provides. Of course they should pay the most to support it. I find it difficult to take seriously a Koch brother or Walton complaining of the unfairness of their tax bill. I do support a simplified system. It's like when I golf I'd rather we play the ball as it lies. Takes all the bullshit out of everything.

skudrunner said...

JoeT. I don't agree with your statement that the wealthiest benefit the most from our system because. They take little and are self sufficient except for the bought and paid for politicians. The wealthiest do pay the most in taxes but what do you consider a fair amount for the rich to pay. We have an overly complicated regressive tax system that rewards those who have the money to avoid paying taxes. A fair tax system with zero deductions would mean everyone pays their Fair Share.

leslie, You need to invest in higher quality drugs because the street version doesn't seem to be working.

JoeBama "Truth 101" Kelly said...

Your statement that the system rewards those who have the money to avoid paying taxes destroys the other things you wrote Skuds. As for a fair amount? 12 to 17% rate is what I come up with without researching budget and gnp. Personally I've paid between 9 to 12% the last few years and it's not hurt me at all. I'd gladly pay some more for my country to have the means to pays it's bills and perform the services we all rely on. I don't know what your financial situation is and I am well aware it is none of my business, but I know of nobody in all my years who's life was bettered or worsened by either a tax cut or hike. Save me the ignorant reply about it being your money. It's our country. We should be proud to support it. The Founders never said there will be no taxation.

Les Carpenter said...

I'll leave the drugs to you skud.

Les Carpenter said...

Yeah, the founders never said there wouldn't ever be taxes. But, this is now and the greed and ignorance attachments are strong in conland and the gop. skud has the affliction bad.

skudrunner said...

JoeT, My statement that the system rewards those who have the money to avoid paying taxes is an indictment on our over complicated tax system and a Fair Tax would fix that. I pay taxes as do almost 50% of American's and have no issue with paying them. How do billionaires avoid them, they have the resources to avoid them because it is legal in our tax code. I don't like my money wasted by our incompetent politicians and reforming the tax system would help. When you said the founders never said there will be no taxation is correct but did they say half don't have to pay.

It is always easy to give away someone else's money especially those who earn a lot.

JoeBama "Truth 101" Kelly said...

Your statement about the resources to avoid taxes is correct and I have no issue with that. many very wealthy people avoid income taxes by staying leveraged and using that as income for their expenses. That's why I support a wealth tax in addition to a flat tax. Your statement about money wasted by government is meaningless right wing drivel. All they can come up with is to cut Social Security and Medicare. The very programs that benefit a huge number of our population. And those that don't earn enough to pay income taxes still pay sales taxes. Property taxes and all the other government fees.
I have no problem with success. It takes balls to put your name on the dotted line and take the risk of running a business. But the success of that business is just as reliant on our system as it is on the business plan of the business people. Not to mention the professional athletes that make millions. Of course they work hard at their craft but because one is blessed with the talent to hit a major league fastball or run 40 yards in four seconds mean they should be paying less? I'm still and always will be my brothers keeper.

Les Carpenter said...

I find it interesting that skud would trust the very tribe of folks (politicians) that screwed the tax system up so badly ( according to him) to "fix" the system.

skudrunner said...

Leslie, They can't and won't fix the tax system. They can't because they are totally incompetent and won't because controlling taxes is controlling people and power is the number one goal of all politicians.

They will just keep spending and raising the debt limit as long as taxpayers allow it. Term limits, balanced budget amendment and Fair Tax are three things that will bring some control to an uncontrollable congress. Politicians have three goals, spend your money, get more of it and keep their cushy job.

JoeT, I only heard one person pronounce cutting SS and that was the evil one. We do need to modify SS and raise the age requirement and we do need to fund medicare better by lowering the percent and make it for all income earned. That would help the less fortunate and do what you want and punish the successful.

Les Carpenter said...

Well skud, what is your suggestion(s). See, a modern industrialized society with over 320,000,000 people, encompassing the land mass of the USA, with its need for massive infrastructures, military, and need for an inclusive social network that includes health-care and so many more services needs a robust and FAIR tax system. Going back to the tax code during DDE's term might just balance our budget, improve our innfrastructure, improve health-care and other needed services, and keep us the strongest and freest nation on the planet.

But yeah, i know. Trickle down, right? Not. Cause it's the damn reason were so screwed up now. But of course the republicans reified and archaic belief system in old world models will keep us right were we stand. Or, much worse.

Which is precisely why we need a democratic trifecta in November.
