I do rather like the contrast of Tim Walz wanting kids to get school lunch and breakfast and MAGA wanting kids as young as 13 to be able to work in slaughterhouses and coal mines.

It must be a real bitch to be Donald Trump. The man is deteriorating before our very eyes.

How ANY sane well adjusted person could vote for the very weird team of Trump and Just Dumb will remain a mystery.

skudrunner said...

Where is it that kids 13 are forced to work in slaughterhouses and coal mines. That is one I would like to see "receipts" that you demand from me.

Harris is for increasing taxes on capital gains, shutting down fracking, giving illegals more benefits, eliminating private healthcare, forced sale of semi-automatic rifles. She is all about government regulations and increase taxes which will have a negative impact on small businesses. She has not received a single vote in the primary and what is it she has done. Please name one thing she has accomplished as VP. She was assigned to take care of the border which at the time she was nicknamed the border czar. With her massive failure on the border she denied she was the border czar. What else is she going to deny?

Arkansas Gov. Sanders signs a law that makes it easier to employ children

"It was wild to listen to adults argue in favor of eliminating a one-page form that helps the Department of Labor ensure young workers aren't being exploited," the group Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families wrote about the law in a legislative session recap.

Arkansas isn't the only state looking to make it easier to employ kids in a tight labor market and fill an economic need. Bills in other states, including Iowa and Minnesota, would allow some teenagers to work in meatpacking plants and construction, respectively. New Jersey expanded teens' working hours in 2022.

You should know by now skud that Shaw does not run garbage like most MAGA sites do.

You can bet (safely) that she verifies her sources of information before posting her article.

Trump, the GOP, and MAGA apparently miss the old child labor practices. They likely want to depend more and child labor to keep costs down and enhance profits. IOW's, GREED.

Heard from a Republican on the hill:

“What are Republicans going to do to smear Tim Walz, run negative ads that he lifted 33% of all Minnesota’s poor children from poverty?”

Shaw Kenawe said...

Tim Walz: "Make no mistake, violent crime was up under Donald Trump. That’s not even counting the crimes he committed."

The optimism, hope, positivity, energy & joy at a Harris rally stands in incredibly stark contrast with a Trump rally where the entire message is that the U.S. is falling apart, WW3 is imminent, we should hate people who are different than us, & an Orange Messiah must save us.

skudrunner asked: "She [VP Harris] has not received a single vote in the primary..."

She received votes in the primary as Pres. Biden's VP. A VP steps in when a POTUS steps down. Get it?

skudrunner: "...and what is it she has done. Please name one thing she has accomplished as VP. "

"What are the main duties of the vice president?
The Constitution names the vice president of the United States as the president of the Senate. In addition to serving as presiding officer, the vice president has the sole power to break a tie vote in the Senate and formally presides over the receiving and counting of electoral ballots cast in presidential elections."

Since VP Harris fulfilled what the Constitution required of her in the position of VP (and will fulfill in the counting of the electoral ballots cast in the 2024 election), in addition, VP Harris has been elected by the people of California as DA, Atty. Gen., US Senator, and VPOTUS!

VP Harris is a natural born US citizen, is 35+ years old, and has lived for 14 consecutive years in the US. Those are the qualifications for the presidency.

VP Harris is MORE than qualified to be POTUS.

The Republican Party in 2016 voted for a man who had zero experience in government, was a businessman who had 13 bankruptcies, including bankrupting casinos! Had no evidence of being a moral or humanly decent individual, and yet the GOP chose him to be their candidate.

IMO, it is laughable for anyone to question what VP Harris "has done" when Trump's chosen VP has 18 months experience in government, denigrates childless women, is against IVF and NO EXCEPTIONS for abortion, even in the case of rape and incest, and has an inordinate affinity for couches.

Possumlady,

My state also allows immigrants to obtain a drivers license. Police associations are in favor of it as well. It protects the public roads and safety of our citizens.

Dave Miller said...

There's a lot to unpack in Skud's comment.

Let's start at the top... "She has not received a single vote in the primary". So what? Primaries are not required by law. They are run 100% by the party, an organization that by law, is allowed to set their own rules for how they choose a nominee. Pre 1972 all nominees in our lifetimes were chosen by the same process the Dems used to get to Harris this year. The party leaders would seek out the best candidate they could find, and anoint him as the candidate.

Maybe it bothers you because your GOP Clown brethren used the primary and got Trump and Vance, the weird duo.

Think about it. You complained for months about how crappy a candidate Biden was and how he was unsuited to run. The Dems heard you and made a change. Now your pissed off.

Why?

You asked, what has Harris done [as VP]? Like a lot of Veeps, not a whole lot. Because a Veep can only do what they are told to do by the president. You went to high school, you were taught this in civics. Were you asleep, or are you just ignoring this reality to try and score some points?

Finally, as for the border, just because you say it, does not make it true. You close the border guys don't want any immigration, I get it. You'll never be satisfied without the "close it all til we assimilate everyone" solution the racist Pat Buchanan suggested in 1992 and again in 2000 when he ran for pres. But that does not change what you know... that Harris was not the border Czar and was only charged with getting to the root causes of immigration, legal and illegal from the Central America triangle.

Finally, as to what the VP can actually do, FDR's VP John Nance Garner called it a "warm bucket of spit". Because there are really only two official jobs enumerated in the Constitution...

1. Be ready if the president dies in office.
2. Certify the elections, as provided in Article 2 of the Constitutions.

It's rich to see conservatives like you complaining about what Harris did or did not do as Veep. Especially when the VP you elected with Trump was almost killed by your supporters for trying to actually do his job on Jan 6.

I would prefer not to publish any arguments between the two of you. I hope you understand.

"For nearly a decade America has existed on a spectrum of anxiety, fear & hopelessness. Trumpism made us numb to possibility…it made us fear our neighbors & ourselves.
The Harris/Walz team are reminding us that JOY matters! We’re fighting for freedom and hopeful future."

Les Carpenter said...

Instead of looking at the world as being filled with infinite porentialities, a positive outlook, the MAGAverse and conservatives see the world as a dangerous and threatening place, something to fear and therefore they believe they must CONTROL that which in reality they have little to no control over.

Western society, with it's fierce unbridled individualism and extreme materialism is largely, if not entirely, responsible for our gravest ills.

Dave Miller said...

As if to emphasize the difference from a potential second term of President Donald Trump or a Harris Administration, here's how The Donald is responding to the rising popularity of Harris, as posted by Trump to his Lies are Truth Social site...

"What are the chances that Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST President in the history of the U.S., whose Presidency was Unconstitutionally STOLEN from him by Kamabla, Barrack HUSSEIN Obama, Crazy Nancy Pelosi, Shifty Adam Schiff, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, and others on the Lunatic Left, CRASHES the Democrat National Convention and tries to take back the Nomination, beginning with challenging me to another DEBATE. He feels that he made a historically tragic mistake by handing over the U.S. Presidency, a COUP, to the people in the World he most hates, and he wants it back, NOW!!!"

The man is losing it. How else can it be explained? If people were rightly worried about Biden's cognitive loss, how can they just ignore Trump? Seriously, reread what Trump wrote! According to him and his tin foil hat briogade, Biden is planning on "CRASH[ing] the Democrat National Convention and tr[ying] to take back the Nomination, beginning with challenging me to another DEBATE."

He's not in cognitive decline, he's just certifiably crazy. Loony. In Lala land. Off his meds, off his rocker, in need of hospitalization.

He's having a break with reality right before our eyes and people still want to give him the nuclear codes?

Again, who are these people? Harris ain't gonna be perfect. Neither will Walz. But we don't have to worry about seeing them in a psych ward or as a character in a remake of the 1989 mental health send up Dream Team with Peter Boyle.

I don't consider myself a wealthy person but if Kamal did manage to raise rates on capital gains I would fully support as I love my country and am proud to help support it through my tax dollars. Warren Buffet is with me on this. Or I;m with him as he is far wealthier than most of us and much more famous. My question to my friend Skudrunner is why does he hate America and not want to support it's goals and ideals? No tax hike or cut has ever made a difference in anyone's standard of living. The fact is just before I retired my income tax actually went up under Trump due to the tax table he introduced. It made no difference in how I lived but if you look at his actual policy it harmed the middle class. Now if that $300 a year would have made Skuds move to the poor house or have to go without some meals or heating his home then I support government programs to help him. Or maybe he needs to join a union and get a better paying job.

skudrunner said...

Jo 101, There is no law that says you cannot pay more in taxes and I'm sure your donation will be appreciated. After Buffet made that statement he instructed his accounts to look for ways to pay less. I am one of the 51% who pay FIT but I would like to see the money confiscated go to something other than building electric school busses and million dollar charging stations. Why is it that Elon can build charging stations across the country with no tax payer money and it takes several million dollars for the government to build seven stations.

JoMala "Truth 101" Kelly said...

You'll need to provide more information than just mentioning an expenditure you happen to dislike Skuds. Of course I understand your goal was merely to provoke a response from both sides, Your side would hail it as a great work of prose because you used the word "confiscate" to describe the patriotic duty of supporting our government. I give you proper kudos for successfully posting somethin inane which gets the righties excited. From me you at least invoked another fine piece of prose. And a yawn.

skudrunner said...

If it is patriotic to pay taxes why doesn't everyone pay instead of just the 51%. You are calling people who do not pay unpatriotic which is kind of harsh.

Les Carpenter said...

Is it harsh skud. People unwilling to pay taxes commensurate with their income are in effect unpatriotic. For if one is truly patriotic they should have no problem paying tlheir fair share. After all, it is their country, state, and local community. They use the services etc. and should be more than willing to support them for all.

I never assume. So, do you support paying your fair share?

skudrunner said...

Les, You need to be careful because we are starting to think alike. I don't know if people unwilling to pay taxes are unpatriotic but I agree they should. I have always supported the fair tax system so everyone pays Their Fair Share but am surprised to see you agree.

Les Carpenter said...

You're a business owner (I think you said that), and I was a manager of a satellite plant owned by a large paper company with 1 mill, 6 box plants and a bag plant on the west coast, 4 box plants and a bag plant in the Midwest, and 2 box plants and a bag plant in the northeast. So we naturally share similar interests in those capacities.

However, I, unlike you skud, have outgrown the conditioning I was subjected to and have realized the many errors of the old entrenched and reified beliefs of capitalist corporate America. It has been liberating and enlightening.

Having said that, I continue to support capitalism. With the EMPHASIS on democratic socialism suffused with benevolent capitalism.

Capitalism can not only coexist with Democratic Socialism the two working in unison, with capitalist greed excised, can and would create the society most folks would absolutely love.

But first conservatives need to start thinking outside of their usual boxes.
