From the Reddest of Red States: The People Tell Their US Representative How They Feel About Obamacare

Republican US Representative, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, tweeted out a poll on getting rid of Obamacare.  Here's what her constituents had to say about that:

Via Reverb Press:

Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
@MarshaBlackburn Repealing without a simultaneous replacement is deeply irresponsible. GOP has had six years to come up with a plan.

Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
@MarshaBlackburn Crowdsourcing complex public policy is your idea of leadership? Did the GOP learn nothing from Boaty McBoatface?

As for the ideas she did get for replacements, it was more of what the GOP doesn’t want:

Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
This went along with very personal pleas and other pointed comments (some of the best below) Representative Marsha Blackburn and the rest of the GOP might want to keep in mind. Obamacare might go down due to the Republican dream of repeal, but plenty aren’t going to like it. And they won’t be silent.
Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
@MarshaBlackburn Husband disabled. He will have to keep working if ACA repealed. Otherwise no health ins for either of us. Do you care?
Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
Kicking 20+ million off insurance b/c you can't stand Obama doing what GOP couldn't do w/GOP own idea (individual mandate) @MarshaBlackburn
Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
@MarshaBlackburn Cancer survivor. Lost everything due to illness. Without OC, if I get sick again, I'll die, in debt.
Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
@MarshaBlackburn What time can I swing by for my pap smear? No doubt you have a doctor. What about us? They won't accept us w/o insurance.
Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
A majority of Americans oppose repeal.
It would mean impoverishment and death for millions.
Humans don't like that idea.@MarshaBlackburn
Do you support the repeal of Obamacare? RT if you do, and share what you want to see as the replacement.
@MarshaBlackburn please don't take away my healthcare, which I pay for 100% myself, no subsidies. Stop the lies!
Cancelling Americans' health insurance for spiteful reasons (Obama Derangement Syndrome) is not a good idea Goopers. You're playing with people's lives. There is obviously no plan in place to help men, women, children, babies who lose their insurance.  Every single one of you Senators and Representatives will continue to enjoy personal and family coverage at American tax payer expense, yet you would ruin those same American tax payers' lives for purely ideological reasons?
What monsters you are!

Monsters? I don't know. Stupid idiots who have no business in Congress? For sure!

I think any group dead set on taking away people's health insurance are monsters. I agree with Shaw. The Rethuglicans are a crime syndicate, not a political party, and Trump just showed the world that's he's okay playing with mobsters. What a disgrace.

The people who wanted to repeal the ACA won the election.

Well, the Rethugs are certainly up against it.
They have been wasting so much time trying to repeal the ACA rather than strengthen it that now they have nothing to replace it with when a large number of people lose their insurance.

Marsha was last seen chairing the committee to shut down Planned Parenthood after the doctored undercover videos were released by Breitfart. She got a goo beat down on that one.

She must be testing the waters to see how big a backlash there is going to be when people find out they have nothing to offer.

Mobsters at least lived by a code (omerta) and set of principals forbidding violence against other non-members or dealing drugs. They provided services people wanted and some needed and in most cases protected the working men and women of their neighborhoods. Sure they were mostly liars and psychopaths, but like soldiers at war the violence was contained within their own group and never would they harm innocent civilians - that said, I'd say its unfair to compare the modern GOP to the American Mafia, the GOP are far, far worse.

I agree with Jerry.

I do have a question that I am sure you can answer.
Why is it the end of the earth and will be disastrous for 20 million if they tweak obamacare but it was fine when they changed healthcare for 320 million. Remember the lie you can keep you Dr and Insurance.

Obamacare was created with good intents but little thought about the consequences for All of the American people.

My son got obamacare for $150 a month and a $6,000 deductible. Prior to obamacare he had coverage for $110 a month and a $4000 deductible. I guess the additional cost is in case he gets pregnant.

No they didn't. Stop repeating that lie. Oh. Wait. You're a Gooper. You can't.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Skud: "Remember the lie you can keep you Dr and Insurance." Mr. Obama was wrong when he said that. But that's no reason to destroy the lives of 20 million people. The Republican soon-to-be-president leaves Mr. Obama, Hillary, and every other pol in the dust when it comes to bald-faced lies. I've never read anything from you about Trump's mendacity.

Why wasn't Obamacare tweaked so that it worked better? Are you that naive? The answer is because it was a conservative think tank idea proposed by a Democratic president and the Goopers didn't want the Democrat to succeed. Not one Gooper voted for it. Their own idea.

The GOP practices spite as a form of governance.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Anonymous @7:56 re: Mobsters. That's a romantic idea of The Mob. They absolutely did deal in drugs, and if innocents got in the way, they were slaughtered. That being said, I agree that the GOP is very much like a crime syndicate -- although I don't know about the homicide part, except possibly how they indirectly harm Americans with their heartless policies that affect the poor and enrich the wealthy.

Apparently for skud, and others of his ilk, republican or conservative LIE okay, even encouraged. Democrat lie (mistake) no matter how insignificant it is taked about for years and exagerated for political effect. Republicans/conservatives are superior to democrats when it comes to inculcating lies. Repeat a lie often enough and eventually it becomes truth to those too lazy to verify its alleged veracity.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Les, it's true. Skud has never come running here to P.E. to report that Trump said Hillary won the popular vote only because those 3 million more voters who voted for her rather than him were illegal. Everyone knew that was a lie. Just like most of what comes out of his purdy little maw.

See the post above this one, for another example. He's often a very clumsy liar.

Shaw, What is a purdy little maw?
As to lying, that is what politicians do and DJT is at the top of the heap but as president he has never knowingly lied to the American people. BHO's you can keep your was a bold faced lie and he knew it when he said it. -H- the attack was because of a video was a lie and she knew it. DJT's 3 million illegal voters is unproven and may be exaggerated but when more people vote than are registered in one city you have to wonder. DJT's build a wall, send all illegals back and repeal obamacare are all lies but they won him the election in middle America.

All this concern about the 20 million lives who will be impacted if obamacare is repealed, which it won't in it's entirety. Was there any concern about the 320 million who were impacted by obamacare in a negative way. I guess you have faith in a system that allows a "you have to vote for it to see it" system of legislation. You have far more faith in our corrupt, inept legislators than I do.

My belief is that politicians will only do what is in their best interest.

Jerry Critter said...

Oh, skud. Some of your statements are truly laughable.

" Why is it the end of the earth and will be disastrous for 20 million if they tweak obamacare..."
Repeal of Obamacare is hardly a tweak. It is elimination! Losing your healthcare is disastrous and losing many benefits of Obamacare will impact many more than 20 million people.

"DJT is at the top of the heap but as president he has never knowingly lied to the American people."
True, but that is because he is NOT president yet, not because he has not lied. I bet there will be a big list of lies on inaugural day. The first one will probably be how he won by a huuuuuggggge landslide.

The Republicans won (Trump) and the main part of their election promise was the repeal the ACA. YOU stop lying.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Anon, no matter how many times you tell yourself that the Goopers won, the fact is that more Americans voted against Trump than voted for him. More Americans are against what the Goopers promised and Trump than are for them. Get that through your thick head. Trump is a minority preznit and disliked more than he's liked. Millions of Americans are embarrassed to have a serial adulterer, sexual assaulter, cheat, scam artist, and bloated narcissist represent our country. You may be blind to how awful the Orange Cheeto is, but millions and millions and milliions (a majority) do NOT like this clown.

I once pleaded the case for republican women as being the great hope for the party to blogging hero Southern Beale. Boy did she set me straight. Being based in Nashville, Beale naturally shone a light on Marsha Blackburn as a primary example of what can go wrong with republican women in leadership.

Still we can be grateful that someone as dimwitted as Marsha was able to help out with the defeat of this plan to repeal by Trump and his minions.

Skud. You may be right about people losing their coverage under Obamacare. Particularly if that coverage was provided by Blue Cross. Blue Cross immediately increased their premiums by as much as 50% in January of 2013 in what I believe was only plausible as a pre-emptive strike against the PPACA. Many plans can no longer offer Blue Cross.

Sounds to me like your son is doing okay.

From the NBC report on this latest Blackburn fiasco, Trump cares very little about any of this other than that the democrats are left holding the bag after nationwide massive increases in premiums and falling insured rates.

Also Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump, who has repeatedly called for the repeal of the ACA, warned his fellow Republicans in several tweets to "be careful" how they handle the issue. Trump's tweets said Democrats "own" the "mess" and "disaster" of Obamacare, implying that if Republicans repeal-and-replace efforts lead to spikes in uninsured rates and premium prices, they too could suffer political fallout.

Here is one of the General's choice tweets on the subject.

From @realDonaldTrump:
massive increases of ObamaCare will take place this year and Dems are to blame for the mess. It will fall of its own weight - be careful!

So all that he really cares about the lives, health and welfare of the American people can be reduced to the amount of political harm that will befall him no matter what happens.

I'd call that a monster. I have been calling Trump the monster since 11/8/16.

FJ Thanks and my son is doing fine. I sleep better knowing if he gets pregnant he is covered.

Your post was well thought out and presented. Obamacare has some good attributes but overall it was thrown together to get something pushed through and never achieved the real goal of National Healthcare.

Why the government didn't expand medicaid to a national program and means tested for payments, much like medicare only to don't have to contribute to it for life.
Obamacare is an exorbitantly expensive way to provide mediocre healthcare to truly sick people who need it and insurance companies are dropping out because they are loosing millions.

Yellow hair is right this is a democrat mess but they will find a way to deflect it.

Jerry Critter said...

The republicans have had nearly 8 years to offer legislative improvements to Obamacare, yet all they have done is pass legislation to repeal it, repeal it without any concern to the negative impacts it would have on people. They now control the government. It is now time for them to either put up or shut up.

skudrunner said...

JC, We Agree that it is time for them to put up. BHO's is stumping for the dems to block any effort to change obamacare because he sees that as his legacy.

I don't believe anyone wants to see all of the provisions in obamacare dismantled just the parts that make no sense. Now that reid is gone maybe the government can get something done.

Jerry Critter said...

skud - "BHO's is stumping for the dems to block any effort to change obamacare..."
That is, of course, untrue. In fact Obama has said, "If it works, I'm for it", meaning any change to Obamacare.
