Dylann Roof's Racist Manifesto

The Huffington Post reported today that Gawker credited twitter users @HenryKrinkle and @EMQuangel with uncovering the website, "The Last Rhodesian," allegedly created by Roof and which includes a passage about why the writer, identified as Roof, chose Charleston.

"Photos of Roof hosted on the website were taken this spring, according to metadata. The writer of the text says he was “not raised in a racist environment,” and that the shooting of Trayvon Martin led him to investigate what he called “black on white crime” through the webpage of local hate group Council of Conservative Citizens. “I have no choice. I am not in the position to, alone, go into the ghetto and fight. I chose Charleston because it is most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of blacks to Whites in the country,” the author writes. “We have no skinheads, no real KKK, no one doing anything but talking on the internet. Well someone has to have the bravery to take it to the real world, and I guess that has to be me.”

The manifesto is HERE.

What you will read in this rambling, confused, paranoid pile of racist rot against African-Americans and Jews and others is not unlike a lot of what can be read daily on certain right wing blogs where anti-semitism and racial hatred is celebrated in images and words, encouraged by cowardly people who, by their silence and complicity, contribute to the hatred and discord that drives monsters like Roof to act out their demented ideas.

Well, there you have it. The right wing is desperately trying to change the subject to religion, claiming that Roof's attack was an "assault on religious liberty" or "maybe he just hates churches". They're twisting themselves into pretzels trying to talk about this without mentioning racism.

Well, I followed your link and read Roof entire screed, and the whole thing is about race. It doesn't mention religion at all.

Why is it so hard for Republicans to acknowledge this? Is there some sort of controversy about the fact that racism exists and sometimes takes murderous forms? This is even more insane than pretending global warming isn't real.

Yes, it's astonishing that they are trying to push the "persecution of Christians" meme.
This not only saves them from acknowledging racism but it furthers their war on religion agitation of the base. I'm sure O'Really has some folks out there trying to establish Roof's Muslim connection.

And after all. the people who were murdered were such obviously spiritual loving people that the Teabag elite can't so easily turn them into malefactors as they did with Trayvon Martin or Michael Brown.
Roger Ailes has no choice but to try to shift the focus.

It is truly disgusting.
And if you even mention gun control in relation to this horror you'll be accused of using a tragedy for political advantage.

Infidel asked... "Why is it so hard for Republicans to acknowledge this (racism)?"

Because to do so will force them to deal with the racists and haters in their midst that desire to maim, marginalize and kill people.

It identifies a radical, hate based fringe of conservatism that they'd rather not admit exists.

Try asking a conservative how an extremist conservative would act, or what they would do towards others and they refuse to answer... Because they do not want to describe themselves, or their friends...

That's good news coming from a guy in the south who is looking for it.

What a nut job. He reminds me of Charles Manson; a racist, insane, drug addict. A pathetic young man. Willing to kill ... except himself.

That flag is NOT the "Confederate Flag." It is the "Battle Flag of Northern Virginia."

Anonymous @12:42, calling that flag the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia doesn't change what it symbolizes. The Flag of Northern Virginia/Confederate Flag represents oppression, white supremacy, mayhem, torture, and murder.

The Swastika was a symbol used by various religions from Buddhism to Christianity, and its meaning was benign. Once the murderous Nazis adopted it, the swastika took on a different meaning:

"The Nazi party, however, was not the only party to use the swastika in Germany. After World War I, a number of far-right nationalist movements adopted the swastika. As a symbol, it became associated with the idea of a racially “pure” state. By the time the Nazis gained control of Germany, the connotations of the swastika had forever changed."

The flying of the swastika flag is outlawed in Germany, but the Neo-Nazis have a way of getting around that law:

"A Reminder to South Carolina: Here in Europe it is illegal to fly the swastika, therefore, the Neo-Nazis fly the Confederate Flag/The Flag of Northern Virginia instead.

If that's a source of pride for you and others, you're welcome to it and all the hatred it stands for.

This is part of that "heritage" so many southerners are proud of:

"South Carolina has undergone enormous changes in the decades since Jim Crow, but it is hard to ignore the setting of this rampage, the atmosphere. Seven years ago, as Obama was campaigning in South Carolina, the Times columnist Bob Herbert visited the state, encountering the Confederate flag flying on the grounds of the State Capitol building and, nearby, a statue of Benjamin (Pitchfork Ben) Tillman, a Reconstruction-era governor and senator, who defended white supremacy and the lynching of African-Americans, saying, “We disenfranchised as many as we could.”

I'd like to ask someone from South Carolina why Benjamin Tillman, a man obviously proud of So. Carolina's lynching history, is honored in that state.

What sort of people honor anyone who openly claimed pride in the murder of Americans because of the color of their skin?

I don't understand the reluctance to call out evil for what it is and eradicate the legacy from public places of evil men like Tillman.

Lindsey Graham: Charleston Shooter May Have Been ‘Looking for Christians to Kill’

How do we expect any honest discussion on this tragedy when a US Senator and Presidential candidate deflects and ignores what is evident? Roof didn't say CHRISTIANS rape our women, Roof did'nt say he wanted to start RELIGIOUS war, Roof didn't attack Christians in his alleged manifesto. Roof is pure and simple racist and weasels like Graham refuse to face that. Read any of the right wing blogs and you can see they're all the same, blaming the massacre on everything except what triggered it: racism and white supremacy.

Shaw, I think most people who honor the Confederate flag choose to think only of "heritage" and ignore the history of its evil. Its evil far outweighs the "heritage" but too many people, like your rsident troll and others refuse to acknowledge it. It's a stubbornness rooted in their inability to acknowledge what it means to their fellow African-American citizens.
