State enforced pregnancies are as evil and wrong as state enforced abortions.
When JFK was a candidate for the presidency, I remember his speech about how he would not be influenced by the Pope and the Catholic Church and that he was a Democratic candidate for the presidency who happens to be Catholic.

Today's SCOTUS has six Catholics as justices. It appears that they're the ones now who are more loyal to the Vatican than to America. And it's not just the conservative Catholics, they are united with the far-right conservative Evangelicals.
A majority of Americans favor a woman' right to an abortion. The prohibition against abortion is for the most part a religious prohibition, but many religions permit it.
In Israel, a country that has a state religion, abortion is legal; and in some instances, paid for by the state. Abortion is also legal in predominantly Catholic countries: Ireland, France, Italy (where the Vatican City is located), Spain, and Portugal.
Abortion in Greece has been fully legalized since 1986, when law 1609/1986 was passed effective from 3 July 1986. Abortions can be performed on-demand in hospitals for women whose pregnancies have not exceeded 12 weeks.
Abortion is technically illegal in Germany, but an exception is made for abortions in the first trimester if the patient goes to a counseling session. The procedure is free.
In England, Scotland and Wales, you can legally have an abortion at up to 23 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy, in line with the Abortion Act 1967. If you live in Northern Ireland, or anywhere else where abortion care may be restricted, you can legally travel to receive treatment.
Europe's formerly Communist countries have liberal abortion laws. The only exception is Poland, where abortion is allowed only in cases of risk to the life or health of the woman or when the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest.
NORDIC COUNTRIES:
Abortion was legalised in the Nordic countries in the 1970s (Knudsen et al., 2003), as part of the general (Western) European trend in the direction of less restrictiveness since the 1960s (Levels, Sluiterb, & Need, 2014).
In Latin America and the Caribbean, women face multiple barriers to free exercise of their reproductive rights, including restrictive abortion legislation.2 In fact, many women struggle daily to gain even minimal autonomy over their intimate lives. Some are raped by their husbands or others, while many more are denied access to contraceptives and reproductive health services and refused the possibility to decide to terminate unwanted pregnancies with safe and legal abortions. Across the region, millions of abortions are performed every year, most of them under unsafe and clandestine conditions, and thousands of women die as a result.3 In many countries in the region, the consequences of illegal abortions constitute a leading cause of maternal mortality.
Latin America remains overwhelmingly Catholic. Catholics comprised more than 90% of Latin America's population, according to the World Religion Database and the Brazilian and Mexican censuses.
Abortion in Russia is legal as an elective procedure up to the 12th week of pregnancy, and in special circumstances at later stages.
In practice, access to abortion varies greatly between Muslim-majority countries. In countries like Turkey and Tunisia, abortions are unconditionally legal on request. On the other hand, in 18 out of 47 Muslim-majority countries, including Iraq, Egypt and Indonesia, abortion is only legally permitted if the life of the mother is threatened by the pregnancy while 10 countries provide it on request. No Muslim-majority country bans abortion in the case of the mother's life being at risk.[6] Other reasons that are permitted by certain[citation needed] Muslim-majority countries include preserving a woman's physical or mental health, foetal impairment, cases of incest or rape, and social or economic reasons. There is great variation within Muslim-majority countries as to which are legally accepted reasons for abortion.
Because abortion is broadly legal in the region’s two most populous countries—China and India—the majority of women in Asia live under liberal abortion laws.

Abortions are legal in Japan, with about 160,000 reported in the year up to March 2019, including 13,588 involving women under the age of 20, according to the health ministry. Abortion pills are illegal, however.

We are experiencing it in this country. Some of the Trumpian conservative governors want a bounty placed on women who seek out-of-state abortions! The attack on women's rights, minority rights, and gay marriage is a basic tenet of the republican party. They will not be content until they've invaded the most intimate aspects of an individuals life. The Republiscum party has long been known as the party that takes away rights, instead of expanding them. Hopefully, this latest stunt of theirs will hurt them at the polls, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Sadly, Schmidt's words ring hollow to me. As do the words of others like Joe Scarborough.
Folks like them for years worked to enable the system we now have. By supporting candidates and in Schmidt's case, running campaigns of candidates who for the most part support 90% of the policies of Pres Trump, they made this decision possible.
Where were they when Thomas, Roberts and Alito were confirmed? Where were they years ago when the Moral Majority first stepped up to the plate? They were there making it all possible. Heck, Morning Joe was one of them.
Their claims to now be outraged are incredibly disingenuous now, absent a full throated rejection of longtime GOP policies and ideals.
There is literally nothing Liz Cheney stands for politically, and she voted with Trump at over 90% too, that these guys would oppose. And yet she's been silent on voter's rights, and Roe v Wade. Because she supports the standard GOP positions.
The only difference for these guys is Donald Trump. Once he's gone and the party returns to their genteel racism and denial of rights, as opposed to the blatant examples we see now, they will return to the fold.

If Alito’s majority destroys the right to privacy, states could jail women and doctors for abortion and contraception offenses. They could also COMPEL women to be sterilized for “unfitness” to reproduce, as Virginia sterilized thousands in the last century. See Buck v. Bell.

The media is ignoring the horrifying fact that this draft ruling also says Griswold vs Connecticut was wrongly decided because our constitution does not explicitly give us a right to privacy.
Silly me, I thought by banning unreasonable searches the authors were clearly protecting our right to privacy. I would bet they assumed that it is so glaringly obvious that a right to privacy is as much a key to liberty as the right to breathe is crucial to our right to life that it didn’t need to be stated explicitly.
The right to privacy is a sine qua non for freedom and democracy to exist. It is one of the things autocrats take away by spying and encouraging citizens to spy on each other.
Authoritarian regimes like the USSR and Nazi Germany even rewarded kids for reporting on their own parents. Undoing Griswold is even more threatening to our freedom than is overturning Roe.
Most people don’t understand that before Griswold states could deny even married women access to birth control because preventing pregnancy is supposedly a violation of “natural law”. Natural law (i.e. God’s law) is the basis of the Catholic Church’s opposition to birth control and Catholic judges like Clarence Thomas has used that concept, to justify legal positions.
Many anti-abortion activists also want to ban some of the most effective forms of birth control — the pill and IUD as well as the “morning after pill” — because they claim they cause abortions. That belief is based on a religious belief that even a fertilized human egg has a soul and is therefore a person.
As I said in a previous comment, The non-Catholics were terrified that the US would be "Vaticanized" should JFK attain the presidency. With 6 conservative Catholics on the SCOTUS, that fear has come true.
Opposition to birth control is a CATHOLIC Church opposition, based on a pope's opinion. And members of the current SCOTUS have expressed their agreement with that.
PS. On July 25, 1968, Pope Paul VI stunned Catholics around the world with his announcement of Humanae Vitae, "Of Human Life," a document in which he forcefully reaffirmed the church's previously stated position on the use of artificial birth control, calling it "intrinsically wrong."
If you read the history of that 1968 Papal Bull, you will find that a commission authorized by Pope Paul to study birth control was ignored by Pope Paul because he didn't like the outcome. The outcome? The commission, which was comprised of devote lay Catholics, doctors, theologians, found that the RCC's opposition to birth control did more harm to Catholics and their marriages than it did good and advised the ban be lifted. Pope Paul ignored the findings because he was afraid if the RCC admitted it was wrong on this doctrine, then people would question others by the RCC. So he ignored the findings and thus, Humanae Vitae reaffirmed the RCC's ban on artificial birth control.
90% of Catholics, btw, use birth control. The opposition to birth control was a man-made (by a previous pope) doctrine.

Alito's "DRAFT 1" is pretty accuract on how the justices will decide.
The final result, of course, is not in, but Alito's Draft 1 is pretty damn close to showing what the end judgement will be.

That's the bottom of the barrel reasoning, and they use that sort of hyperbole to make themselves feel satisfied that they're on the side of "The Lawd!"
I imagine neither of those jokers ever had to face the horror of a decision to abort for heartbreaking reasons: a deformed fetus that cannot live outside the womb, a fetus that stops growing for reasons unknown, a mother who develops a life-threatening disease that makes carrying the fetus to term dangerous, a 10-year old who was raped by a family member, etc., etc.
No. In their limited understanding of why the state should stay out of women's wombs, they believe women just want to "kill their babies." These sort of stupid statements make them feel all fuzzy and warm inside, thinking they're so much better than those who face horrific decisions, so much better that they prefer to have The State force a pregnancy to term under any condition. How's that for "limited government?" They're all for government in women's wombs!
(They're the same folks who, after real, live outside-the-womb babies were slaughtered in their classrooms, those folks said, "Well, that's the price we have to pay for our 2nd Amendment rights! So if some babies have to be killed, we have to accept that bad things happen!")

Of all the damn fool things to say about reasons women want the right to choose, those reasons above are the most simple minded and empty headed. It's just a lazy person's way of dealing with a subject he or she has no experience with. So they just claim women "want to kill their babies."

If a 16 year old girl wants to adopt a child, she's not allowed by the Government. She doesn't have the emotional maturity or the financial means to raise a child.

The movement to outlaw abortion started 40 years ago. Republicans have been more successful than Democrats in American politics in those years. That gave them the edge in appointing Supreme Court justices and they have always made it a public stand that when they got that edge they would overturn Roe/Wade. Roe/Wade was a judicial decision not legislative constitutional law. Why did the Democrats not push for a constitutional law starting 40 years ago? The only option now is to make a constitutional law making abortion a legal right.

The 13th Amendment was ratified December 1865. Was that an invented right? The Bible has only good things to say about slavery, and the pro-slavery folks always used the Bible to prove that the Lord had no problem with slavery. Godly pastors even said so from the pulpit. So should that "invented right" have been taken away in 1913 and every African-American and Native American have gone back on the selling block and had their families broken up? After all, that "invented right" was less than 50 years old!

So how will that play out? Will state troopers stop cars at the border and question girls and women? Will they be arrested and thrown in jail? Will those red states empower their citizens to sniff out any girl or woman who may be pregnant and report one her travels? What will that Soviet-style spying on one's family, neighbors, and friends look like in the Land of the Free?

The Constitutional "right to privacy" is based on the fundamental "right to be left alone" long recognized as the key legal bulwark against governmental tyranny.
If the Supreme Court does indeed rule that the Constitution has no implicit right to privacy, they've opened the door to the US becoming a totalitarian state.
