Proving, once again, that our neighbors to the north are more decent and smarter than the average American.
"Canadian MP Charlie Angus responded to President-elect Donald Trump's proposal to make Canada the 51st U.S. state by noting that existing laws prevent "sexual abusers" from leading his nation."

When is a pass NOT a pass...
...when it fails to open the gate.
Let's look at it this way.
Say Canada says yes to Trump's offer. It's a huge place, so it will constitute at least 4, maybe 5 states. And all of them will trend blue, because Canadians are thinking, sentient beings trying to live in the 21st Century, as opposed to the 1800s.
I say, let's do it!
All of it, except Quebec, cause ain't no way "Merika" is speaking and Frenchy language.
The only thing more inscrutable than you is the duck on a Chinese menu.
When was the last time we've ever heard a president-elect tell his followers that he wants to take over another country's region or the country itself? Is this Trump's equivalence of Sudetenland 2.0?
It never ceases to amaze me how blind and willfully ignorant the magats are. Sorry to my friend FJ and his many personas. This issue is easily defended if they could only think. Canada's greatest asset is fresh water. Just imagine if we could tap into Great Bear and Great Slave lakes to keep the Colorado River full. The western states would experience a great boon. No more water rationing. Water prices down. Think of all the watered golf courses man! I kind of doubt this was on Trump's mind when he started this. It's most likely he was pissed at Justin the PM whose last name I forgot how to spell was being hit on by Melania. Maybe we can get her to hit on Putin so Trump will stop kissing his ass. Threatening to make Russia a state may just be thing to get Putin to resign.
Canadians are too damn smart to even considerYou Know Who's offer of authoritarian fascist leadership. They're apparently much brighter than Americans.
Shaw... Yeah, I get it. Look, we had a few US Presidents with pretty big territorial aspirations for years. Think the Louisiana Purchase, Seward's Folly, Mexico and more.
But, would I, personally, look askance at Canada becoming part of the good ole US of A? If they want to, why not? And while we're at it, make Puerto Rico a state, or cut 'em off.
Same with DC.
Seems like there should be some taxation without representation issue on both those places.
Here's some interesting information regarding the state of the US economy as Trump assumes office... all verifiable facts [All linked in the NY Times]. Not opinion Skud, -FJ and others, facts.
Peter Baker writes in his latest article titled... "Trump Sees the U.S. as a ‘Disaster.’ The Numbers Tell a Different Story."
"For the first time since that transition 24 years ago, there will be no American troops at war overseas on Inauguration Day. New data reported in the past few days indicate that murders are way down, illegal immigration at the southern border has fallen even below where it was when Mr. Trump left office and roaring stock markets finished their best two years in a quarter-century.
Jobs are up, wages are rising and the economy is growing as fast as it did during Mr. Trump’s presidency. Unemployment is as low as it was just before the Covid-19 pandemic and near its historic best. Domestic energy production is higher than it has ever been.
The manufacturing sector has more jobs than under any president since Mr. Bush. Drug overdose deaths have fallen for the first time in years. Even inflation, the scourge of the Biden presidency, has returned closer to normal, although prices remain higher than they were four years ago."
The above is stunning. Democrats should clip this article and in four years trot it out with Reagan's classic question... are you better off today than you were 4 years ago?"
Alaska - Seward's Folly. At least HE only had one.
The PresElect is the Ziegfeld of vacuous Follies.
Have the Canadian people been asked if they want to become part of America? I don't know if they have. I imagine they'd be appalled. Why would they want to be associated with a country that re-elected a convicted felon, adjudicated sexual assaulter, and inciter of an insurrection against his own government as a leader?
I hold Canadians to a higher level of intelligence than my fellow Americans at this point in our history. (Also, the fact that my first grandchild was born in Toronto and my oldest sister was married to a man who grew up in Canada makes me a bit biased.)
And also because of years and years and years of watching "The Habs" play against the Boston Broonz, which led me to learn Canada's national anthem as sung by the incomparable Rene Rancourt!
This will make a perfect post just after January 20th, so we never forget the strong economy and progress given to Trump as he enters his 2nd presidency.
Some would make the argument the USA is too big already Dave. I for one would strongly oppose increasing its size.
Just because other politicians aren't "convicted" doesn't mean they aren't felons . Just means they refuse to use their justice dept against their own.
As is usual with you, Lisa, WRONG. Listening to "false fact" propaganda on FAUX NOOZ does a great job of keeping you uninformed.
