"Today, there will be no organized objection to the results of a free and fair election by the sitting President, no mob that marches on the Capitol at the incitement of the President. Today, there will be no officers maced by rioters or crushed in the doors of this hallowed institution, no offices desecrated or windows smashed by insurrectionists. Today, there will be an orderly certification of the electoral vote, paving the way for the peaceful transfer of power. We can, must, and will do our part to ensure that the same is true in every election, regardless of whether one’s preferred candidate wins or loses. We must ensure that our democratic republic survives four years from now, forty years from now, and forever."
--Adam Schiff
Democrats and those who opposed Trump's illegal insurrection on January 6, 2021, are the true keepers of our democratic republic.
Bravo to all who believe in the peaceful transfer of power.
And woe to those who continue to undermine our laws and traditions.

Only time will tell if this nation survives another four years of You Know Who, the trumpublican cult, and Project 2025. As all con energies will now be directed at turning America into a full blown fascist state.
I think it was a waste of money putting up a fence. The cry babies won this time.
This is how it was done in 1961 when the GOP candidate for president, VP Richard Nixon had a credible claim of voter fraud but as he said when he certified the 1960 election results, he was doing so "for the good of the republic."
No drama.
This is how it was done in 2001 when Democratic VP Al Gore had a credible claim of fraud also and like Nixon, for the good of the country, set that aside.
Again, no drama.
This is how it was done election after election in this country, going on mostly unnoticed, until Jan 6, 2021 when a massive crown of Trump supporters, encouraged by the then president, disrupted Congress, sacked the Capitol and savagely beat over 120 US Capitol Police Officers while President Trump stood by doing nothing to stop the riot/insurrection/tourist visit for over three hours.
In fact, for the most part, the happenings on Jan 6 historically were a footnote, and final blurb on the evening news or a small column in the local news.
Again, before Trump, his ego, his deluded supporters and his team of rioters attacked the Capitol seeking to "hang Mike Pence" all while Trump cheered them on.
Sickening, isn't it?
I've always been a fan of Les' well founded skepticism. In this case my money is on our Nation's ability to stay deaf to most any danger as long as the cable TV is receiving. This makes our best hope that Justices Thomas and Alito stay alive for two more years so Dems have a chance to retake the SEnate and block any more kooks from being appointed.
Bravo to all those prosecutors that didn't ever file a single charge of "insurrection" in Court... LOL!
Donald Trump and his supporters, including many Republicans serving in the House & Senate, live in an alternate reality when it comes to Trump losing the 2020 election and attempting to overthrow the government on Jan. 6th. However, Trump legitimately won this 2024 election and the Democrats upheld the tradition of peaceful transfer of power without attempting to overthrow our government.
WE may not see it now, but history will be the final judge on the events of Jan. 6 and Trump's treachery.
6/2/2023, DoJ: "Four members of the Oath Keepers were sentenced this week on seditious conspiracy and other charges for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Their actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress that was in the process of ascertaining and counting the electoral votes related to the presidential election.
Roberto Minuta, 39, of Prosper, Texas, was sentenced June 1 to 54 months in prison followed by 36 months of supervised release.
Edward Vallejo, 64, of Phoenix, Arizona, was sentenced on June 1 to 36 months in prison followed by 36 months of supervised release, including the first 12 months to be served on home confinement.
David Moerschel, 45, of Punta Gorda, Florida, was sentenced on June 2 to 36 months in prison followed by 36 months of supervised release.
Joseph Hackett, 53, of Sarasota, Florida, was sentenced on June 2 to 42 months in prison followed by 36 months of supervised release.
The four defendants were found guilty of seditious conspiracy, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding and conspiracy to prevent Members of Congress from discharging their official duties on Jan. 23, following a seven-week trial. Hackett was also found guilty of destruction of evidence.
According to the evidence, in the months leading up to Jan. 6, the defendants and their co-conspirators plotted to oppose by force the lawful transfer of presidential power, including by amassing an armed “quick reaction force” on the outskirts of the District of Columbia. Beginning in late December 2020, via encrypted and private communications applications, the defendants and various co-conspirators coordinated and planned to travel to Washington, D.C., on or around Jan. 6, 2021, the date of the certification of the electoral college vote. The defendants made plans to bring weapons to the area to support the operation. The co-conspirators then traveled across the country to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area in early January 2021, with paramilitary gear and supplies including firearms, tactical vests with plates, helmets, and radio equipment.
The defendants conspired through a variety of manners and means, including: organizing into teams that were prepared and willing to use force and to transport firearms and ammunition into Washington, D.C.; recruiting members and affiliates to participate in the conspiracy; organizing trainings to teach and learn paramilitary combat tactics; bringing and contributing paramilitary gear, weapons, and supplies – including knives, camouflaged combat uniforms, tactical vests with plates, helmets, eye protection and radio equipment – to the Capitol grounds; breaching and attempting to take control of the Capitol grounds and building on Jan. 6, 2021, in an effort to prevent, hinder and delay the certification of the electoral college vote; using force against law enforcement officers while inside the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021; continuing to plot, after Jan. 6, 2021, to oppose by force the lawful transfer of presidential power and using websites, social media, text messaging and encrypted messaging applications to communicate with co-conspirators and others."
History is but a narrative of events as approved by the victors.
Time and time only will tell if this nation continues to stand as a democratic republic or joins the list of authoritarian shit holes.
There are very many, led by You Know Who, who are working diligently to destroy our democratic republic and turn us into a full blown authoritarian oligarchy run by multi millionaire and billionaire oligarchs.
I'm NOT betting on which way it breaks. But current indications are not hopeful.
Observations on the day:
- VP Kamala Harris is a class act, 150%. I am grateful I had the opportunity to vote for her.
- The only mandate declared by the citizenry of the USA is one of negative space. More citizens voted third party or not at all than voted for either traditional party candidate. I think. I'm in the middle of a flair so my maths understanding is less than usual.
- The hottest ten years in history happened to be the last ten years, including 2024. There is no turning back from this. The tipping point tipped long ago meaning humanity can no longer stop what's coming. There will be solutions of course because all these climate issues are bad for the bottom line. What couldn't be achieved ideologically might be attainable due to the greed of our Robber Baron overlords.
- What I'm hearing from #45-7 doesn't square up with what is coming from Congress. While the House appears to be united, appearances are deceiving. Since the GOP/MAGA/DOGE hold the Executive and majorities in both Legislative and Judicial, something the Right has fantasized about forever, I look forward to see if expectations match reality.
- The resistance is alive and well and kicking. Of course everything is being painted as doom and gloom, even by newsies on our own side. Psyops 101 - depress the mood of the population you wish to conquer. They will not fight as hard when you take everything from them. I stopped reading some blogs, started new ones. So no, I will not go into the next four years hanging my head because we lost. Keeping my head low, yes. Don't want to get it shot off. Hanging? No. Our oppressors are just as likely to kill us for fun as for what we are doing so I'm resisting and pointing out where there is beauty and love and other humans doing amazing things just by surviving. This is how we win. One conversation at a time. One cup of tea, one cookie, one hug.
Rainstorms are millions of raindrops - individually impotent but together they change the landscape. We changed humans hearts with Marriage equality. Hundreds of happy couples with many times more happy kids are an incredible force for good when opening hearts of previously bigoted grandparents. Love wins.
“Don’t let anyone lie about January 6th. It was an armed attack. They had pipe bombs, guns, Molotov cocktails, stun guns, a crossbow, hockey sticks, bats, flagpoles, pepper/bear spray, brass knuckles, scissors, screwdrivers, and an axe. More than 1,200 arrested. 117 for weapons/assaulting police.” — Scott Dworkin
The Republican party has dumbed down the American electorate for decades to the point that anything that smells of intellectualism, education, expertise, science, or even facts are now demonized by the right. When Trump said "we love the undereducated," instead of being received as an insult by his base the remark was met with pride and validation.
Kellyanne Conway, whose use of the term "alternative facts" cemented the notion that reality was not a product of the intellect, but was primarily shaped by one's biases and intentions. It effectively introduced the death knoll into the value of using historical experience and rationality as guides for future behavior.
So here we are, living in an America where 50% of us do not agree on the basic tenets of what constitutes realty with the other 50%. Where this leads in unprecedented in American history and poses a powerful risk to the endurance of the nation, especially if the one group is headed by a self serving psychopath with tyrannical intentions who will exploit the lack of consensus about reality. Trump 2.0 may indeed end the American experiment.
When one forgets what one thought they knew, opens and airs out the mind, the opportunity for wisdom grows.
Unfortunately the curiosity of a seeker is a neccessary attribute, and for MAGA cultists curiosity and seeking are obviously unimportant.
Seditious conspiracy isn't exactly insurrection, is it.
I don't give a flying donut what YOU or ANYONE calls what happened on J6. It was an insurrection, police were beaten and some died as a result, the certification of the EC was postponed for 14+ hours, the US Capitol was desecrated with Trump's armed mobs' feces. VP Pence was in fear of his life.
All of that is the result of Trump and his thugs' insurrection. Period.
You and your revisionist lies will never, ever change the reality of that day. It's on video tape and we have the testimony of Trump's own aides and their first-person evidence of Trump's treachery.
Trump's legacy will be damnation when finally his veil of lies disintegrates.
Plubius, Kellyanne just put an official word behind a trait of MAGA, Tea Party and GOP partisans in the 2000's.
Bloggers and commenters here will tell you the struggles we've had when it comes to the Conway crowd for years.
Point out an untruth, because there are no lies, you get banned. Ask about where someone gets their information and they tell you they post a mix of "true and false facts".
And then there are the ones who don't even try to justify their lies, mistruths and struggles with evidence and facts. They just ignore and post more, ala Skud and -FJ. Or better yet, video links are compulsively shared from the University of You Tube, the equivalent of the "Great Books of Western Society" for that crowd.
Just to be clear, there is a lot of credible and valuable information on YouTube for the discerning mind. Admittedly most MAGA cultists lack the important ingredient. It all about the false narratives that support their delusions with them.
Then you should call it was it WAS, and not what it WASN'T! Words have meanings. Learn to use them properly.
Yes, words have meaning. And I know the FBI does not label the events of J6 as an insurrection.
But I also know this: The incoming Trump administration has said it wants to shut down the FBI because it believes it is the "Deep State!" So how do they square that with the fact that they believe the "deep state" FBI when it says J6 was not an insurrection?
Patel: “I’d shut down the FBI Hoover Building on day one and reopen it the next day as a museum of the ‘deep state,’”
It appears the FBI is "deep state" when they don't agree with it, and the FBI is not the "deep state" when they do.
And why would Trump meet with the "deep state" FBI when they brought him information about the assassination attempt by Crooks?
FBI, in private meeting with Trump, revealed new details about his would-be assassin.
So you can justify your own hyperbolic statements but deny that Trump should be entitled to do the same (ie- Greenland/ Panama). hypocrite much?
In case you haven't noticed, JoeCon, I'm NOT the president-elect of the US. Trump is and his words, hyperbolic and otherwise, carry worldwide consequences. Trump threatened to seize a sovereign territory of another country as well as the Panama Canal, which doesn't belong to the US. And his inane suggestion that Canada should become America's 51st state is not seen by Canadians as hyperbole, because the majority of our northern neighbors detest Trump and his despotic ideas.
You and your misguided pals love Trump's hourly struts and frets upon the worldwide stage. The rest of the world, except for dictatorships, do not.
