"Members of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee received a memo Tuesday saying that the department is eliminating the membership of all advisory committees as part of a “commitment to eliminating the misuse of resources and ensuring that DHS activities prioritize our national security.”
The aviation security committee, which was mandated by Congress after the 1988 PanAm 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, will technically continue to exist but it won’t have any members to carry out the work of examining safety issues at airlines and airports. Before Tuesday, the group included representatives of all the key groups in the industry — including the airlines and major unions — as well as members of a group associated with the victims of the PanAm 103 bombing. The vast majority of the group’s recommendations were adopted over the years."
And how did the Felon-in-Chief respond to this tragedy?

Air traffic controllers work from home? Who knew?
Love it when people who have never flown an airplane especially at night in a congested airspace are sudden experts. If you do your homework, as trump did not, the helicopter was operating VFR in controlled airspace and was told to pass behind the CRJ.
Impossible to work from home as a controller and there has been a shortage of controllers for many years and the equipment they work with are not even close to being up to today's technology. There are millions of dollars that have been collected for an upgrade but it is still being studied. Maybe with a competent head of transportation something can be done. Unlike his predecessor who ignored a train crash for weeks the current one went to the crash site immediately.
Hope me your next round trip flight is a safe one.
If not? Oh well. Than King Felon.
I have not been able to find reports that say Trump visited the crash site last night or this morning. Could you post where you found that? And then tell us how that helps this tragedy? Or are you still determined to trash Biden with every comment you send here? What's the purpose of that? To compare Biden to Trump? Seriously? You don't want to go there.
Is this going to be your strategy during the Trump regime, skud?:
"During his campaign for the presidency, Trump repeatedly attacked Biden for the post-pandemic inflation that afflicted the country, and promised to bring down “the price of everything.” Even before he took office, Trump had begun to walk back his promise, and J.D. Vance has also suggested price relief would “take a little bit of time.” Now coffee and egg prices are at an all-time high, and the administration’s solution is to attack Biden. No matter the incompetencies of the Trump presidency, Marcotte notes, it appears the answer will be: You might not like what we’re doing, but don’t you hate Democrats more? " --H.C.Richardson
Oh please, let skud go there. It makes MAGA bullshit artists easy targets and increases the volume of truth energies.
He's since removed that statement from his twitter feed. I wonder why? The only explanation can be that the ppl wearing big boy pants in DC told him it was inappropriate.
Over 60 ppl dead and Trump posted his real thoughts, about a perfect and routine line, including more BS.
For God's sake, even Vance knew to consider the pain, fear and worry of the victim's families. Trump? Nothing.
Why? Is he functionally unable [unwilling??] to sincerely care for people or show tenderness and empathy? Does his need to dominate every encounter no matter how public or private over ride what for many is a reflex power response?
One of the jobs of a president is to be the America's mourner/counselor in chief in times of tragedy.
Trump is an utter failure at this.
Skud... you sound cogent on what might have happened. Almost like you've done this. What is VFR and CRJ?
How come our president couldn't or wouldn't post something like this...
My administration is monitoring the situation of the crash earlier tonight over Washington. There will be a time to get to the bottom of what happened later, but right now I ask you to join my entire staff in praying for the families of people who were on both the helicopter and the American Airlines plane.
Short, sweet, emphatic, etc., etc...
But no...
“If the FAA director got fired over a business beef AND there was an air traffic controller hiring freeze despite huge shortages AND a chaotic blitz to hollow out federal bureaucracy, and then within a week the first American airliner crashes in 16 years, you would be insane not to talk about it all.”
Ms. Shaw, I said nothing about trump visiting the crash site so you either didn't read what I said or you are just trying to trash me. I will assume you didn't read what I said because you are so fair and would never attack for no reason.
You can't compare biden to trump because their approach to governing is totally different. Biden governed for special interest, trump for the American taxpayer. It does look like the democrats are in full overdrive to stop trump from doing anything. I still think Nikki would be better than either one but that will have to wait until another day.
As to your trump promise to bring down prices. I never believed that was going to happen and even if he can it took biden four years to raise prices so they can't be reduced in four weeks. Also what does that have to do with the topic?
It takes over a year to train a controller so the pause in hiring has no effect currently. The shortage in controllers has been an issue for several years.
King Felon taking America to the rear of the class. And proud of it.
Aaaaannnnndddd in comes the blaming of former Sec Pete Buttigieg who hasn't been in the job since the twentieth. No crashes for 16 years per Shaw's comment? And President Felon rips the guts out of systems put in place by previous citizens who only wanted to avoid exactly what happened last night. But hey, deep state or something.
Thought about posting His Lardinesses quote but I really don't want to spread what could be defamation, libel, or slander charges.
Isn't 'finding out' fun? Heavy snark; this is where I go when empathy has left the building.
VFR refers to visual flight rules or see and be seen. In class B airspace (controlled around a large airport) it is not a good policy but DC has so much going on close by it is necessary especially for the military.
CRJ is a regional jet manufactured by Bombardier and sold to Mitsubishi a few years ago.
Trump being trump held a press conference and he was the smartest person in the room according to him. He truly needs to stay out of issues he doesn't understand but that goes against his I am the greatest narcissism. His arrogance and blame pointing made him look like an idiot and solves no problems. Our ATC system has been short staffed for over a decade and the need for new technology has been promised just as long. Instead of improving the system they just put a band aid over it and go on.
skud: "Unlike his predecessor who ignored a train crash for weeks the current one went to the crash site immediately."
I misread that sentence, thinking "his predecessor" you were referring to was Biden, and not the Transportation Secretary. Sorry for that.
Meanwhile the current Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, a former lumberjack athlete, reality TV star, and Fox News host had this to say about the tragedy:
"Obviously it is not standard to have aircraft collide. I want to be clear on that."
Sked, I assume you were talking about Sean Duffy. He was at the news conference which was reporters asking question they knew no one was going to answer and politicians bobbing and weaving like always.
