General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."
Socialists, like environmentalist, are also vibrating at a higher frequency that capitalists as they are aligned with the higher positive energies of the universe.
I always thought the idea of our democratic republic government was for the betterment of all citizens. As We The People knew better We did better, by recognizing our first definition of what constituted a citizen was limited by the understanding of our times. We expanded as We The People expanded.
Now those same Robber Barons and Priests threaten our great experiment, angered that what they considered to be theirs by conquest - positions of power and influence - were not included in the new government except as fellow citizens.
For humans used to privilege laws demanding equality must feel as persecution. In this I am binary - learn to share or get out of the way. We all have to do this for ourselves and we have to do this together. Mobius Strip logic.
Democratic Socialism - simplest put - no citizen can thrive until all thrive. And funniest thing - this is the exact lesson taught by so many spiritual leaders throughout humanity, including Jesus or was the Sermon on the Mount just 'guidelines'?
Nothing wrong with the concept of Utilitarianism - greatest good for the greatest number. Unreachable, but dates to the early Cro-Magnon days. Progress is so slow.
The happiest countries are the countries where modified democratic socialism is practiced -- Scandinavia, and the Netherlands where consociationalism is the political system.
Ms. Shaw, I am confused because you say Scandinavia, and the Netherlands are the happiest countries yet they have a fair tax system where everyone pays taxes yet you oppose that in the US. If we are going to go socialist everyone needs to contribute not just the 50% who pay in this country. Grey, take out the incentive to achieve more by being smarter or working harder is not a good answer because there are to many who will just abuse those who provide. I assume that is the system you want because that is the system you have now. Of course that is just my enlightened opinion.
Truth is Christianity has primarily been practiced not as Jesus taught but rather as the Church modified it to satisfy the desires of the Church and the politics that kept it in favor with the government.
The Gnostic Gospels are the true teachings of Jesus. Which is why the RCC ignored them. Christianity today works as much for the oligarchs as it does for poor huddled masses. If not more.
The Netherlands has a progressive tax system with a combined top rate on personal income of 49.5 percent.
Norway and Sweden have similarly flat income tax systems. Norway's top personal tax rate of 38.2 percent applies to all income over 1.5 times the average Norwegian income. Sweden's top personal tax rate of 52.3 percent applies to all income over 1.1 times the average national income.
Finland taxes residents on their worldwide income. Earned income received by residents is taxed at progressive tax rates for national tax purposes and at a flat tax rate for municipal (and church and social security) tax purposes.
DENMARK: All citizens use the public sector in one way or another, and as a general principle all citizens must help pay for it. However, the tax burden is not equal for all as the Danish tax system is progressive, meaning that the higher your income, the higher the amount of taxes you have to pay.
A mixture, as you can see.
Denmark, the Netherlands, and the countries considered part of Scandinavia (including Sweden, Norway, and Finland) all have universal healthcare systems, meaning all citizens have access to comprehensive healthcare funded primarily through taxes.
Their citizens don't have to worry about going bankrupt because of any catastrophic illnesses or accidents, and insurance clerks do not decide on medical procedures for sick Americans, doctors do that in those countries.
Americans think they live in the greatest country on earth, but we fail our citizens with insane health insurance companies and their fat cat CEOs making tons of money off of people's miseries.
Silly thing to write. We ARE quasi-socialist! We all pay into public schools, police and fire departments, US and state roads, libraries, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, etc.! But, of course, you knew that!
Government subsidies to farmers, both to ensure they get a fair price, but others can't get a guarantee of a fair wage. Subsidies to farmers to make sure they don't even grown crops and leave their fields fallow. To artificially inflate prices.
Capitalism my a**. We don't believe in it, never have and never will. Without a supply of cheap labor, first through slavery and now through undocumented immigrant workers, the precious America so many ppl crave would crater.
We're about a socialist as they come. It's just quite a few ppl are morons and choose not to look behind the curtain.
Most people never looked behind the curtain because they thoroughly believe the illusions they were sold by their culture and schooling every since they were knee high to a grasshopper.
I won’t be smearing feces on walls or beating police officers with flags at the US Capitol tomorrow, even though my preferred presidential candidate did not win.
Dave, You do know that undocumented illegals are the most exploited workers that we have. If they are mistreated they have no where to go with their grievance. Idea you might want to consider is pushing for more worker visas to those wanting work and want to go through a process instead of just walking across and being supported my tax payers. Out of everyone I would think you would want to protect migrants by making them legal migrants.
Skud... I have advocated in many places for more worker VISAs. If you could read and comprehend English, you would know that.
The GOP, outside of Trump's inner circle, does not want them. The Dems want them, US employers want them, immigration workers and advocates want them. Even immigrants want them.
The only group that does not want them are the people YOU keep voting for.

Democratic socialism with regulated capitalism. Been saying this for years. I hope we get there before tRUMP and his cronies destroy our country.

Of course not - that is for the 'chosen few'. The poor jailed patriots.

Les, What do you know of Mahayana Budhism? Is that your model?

Why is that?
I know what i know.
My model is truth, integrity, and ethical behavior. Unlike you
I ask because I'm totally on-board with it. It's brilliant!
I am a practicing Buddhist, currently taking a 5 month course (w/study groups) in Vajrayana Buddhism.
