I imagine America's enemies are laughing at, as well as salivating over the unraveling of the world's once greatest and most successful democracy.

Does it really take an insider to take this job. He has military experience so he understands the system. You had no problem with someone heading up the department of transportation who has zero experience and did a horrible job. Was that because he checked a box or he wasn't a republican. You place a lot of faith in appointing political paybacks in positions instead of people with experience.
In addition to Hegseth's known drunkenness, sexual assaults on women and serial adulteries, he has this in his "experience" for running an organization:
"Hegseth worked briefly at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research. According to his LinkedIn page, Hegseth left the conservative think tank in 2007 to work as executive director at Vets For Freedom (VFF). The organization advocated a greater troop presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. His job included responding to the Federal Election Commission as treasurer of the organization. By 2008, VFF was unable to pay its creditors, who became concerned that money was being wasted on organization parties. A 2009 forensic accountant report by creditors led to Hegseth admitting that the organization was about half a million dollars in debt.
Along with VFF, Hegseth also had been president of Concerned Veterans of America. According to the article "Pete Hegseth's Secret History" in The New Yorker magazine: "A trail of documents, corroborated by the accounts of former colleagues, indicates that Hegseth was forced to step down by both of the two nonprofit advocacy groups that he ran—Veterans for Freedom and Concerned Veterans for America—in the face of serious allegations of financial mismanagement, sexual impropriety, and personal misconduct." According to one report by a whistleblower, Hegseth was accused of having "treated the organization funds like they were a personal expense account".
In 2012, Hegseth formed the political action committee MN PAC.[25] An APM Reports analysis found that while Hegseth ran the MN PAC political action committee, one-third of its $15,000 in funds were spent on Christmas parties for families and friends.
Hegseth also wrote in a report at one point in his illustrious alcohol infused career that raping a woman while she is unconscious should not be a crime, since there is no duress.

Any comparison between Hegseth, a spoiled libertine and Pete Buttigieg is indefensible. Pete Buttigieg is a far superior human being.
From his record he is the perfect one to oversee a government organization. Mayor pete may be a superior human being but he was worthless as the head of transportation. He got the job because he checked a box not because he was qualified. Disaster occurred he was on maternity leave or on vacation. Of course you can say the same thing for his boss but his boss.

And Hegseth had the additional experience of being a drunkard and profligate.

Must be nice in skud's bubble world where disasters are scheduled so not to interfere with vacations or having children. In my world disasters have sarcastic timing. What do I mean, well the thing happens and I go Oh Perfect! (sarcastic timing).

As for Hegseth being confirmed as Secretary of Defense.... There is a story on Daily Kos and the MRFF about a top female pilot whose promotion was slapped down by her commander. He smiled at her when he told her to her face that because DEI was ended that female pilots would no longer be a thing, that because she's female she would be limited what she was allowed to do. MRFF has the details. It's not pretty.
I have a rule - don't waste good. MAGA is not only wasting good they are tossing it back in peoples faces while they crow about their own supposed superiority.

Skud seems to have a particular issue with Mayor Pete as Sec of Transportation. Without speculating on the why, let's try to stay on point and deal with facts.
Skud claims essentially that Mayor Pete was unqualified to hold his position and because libs and progressives were okay with him, we should be okay with Hegseth.
Hogwash.
A great majority of the job of any cabinet secretary is management of the department they lead. That includes staffing, HR and budget management.
Let's see how the two stack up using their prior experience.
Both had military training and served on active duty, although military experience isn't necessarily a requirement for the Transportation Dept.
Mayor Pete oversaw an annual budget for the city of South Bend of more than $350 million dollars. He had no scandals, was never accused of fraud, or harassment and his leadership was seen as competent and professional.
Hegseth managed a non profit Vets for Freedom which has never reported more than 50K in income. He was also a director for Concerned Veterans for America, which had a last publicly reported income of approx $15.5 million. Hegseth was cited for gross financial mismanagement in both of those positions, sexual harassment of employees, public drunkenness and was terminated.
There is nothing in Hegseth's resume which would suggest he has the ability to properly manage the finances of the largest cabinet in the US, or properly manage employees.
Hegseth has paid numerous settlements to women he is accused of abusing, has cheated on his spouse and has forced his ex wife to sign a NDA agreement.
There is none of that in Mayor Pete's background.
All of this alone shows that Mayor Pete had loads more financial management experience than did Hegseth, has more experience managing people and was scandal free at the time of his nomination.
Hegseth doesn't compare and never will.
I'm sorry Skud if you do not believe parents should be able to take time off when their baby comes home, but your dislike of this public policy supporting families is on you, not on Mayor Pete.

America, even with her problems and issues had, for the most part, a responsive government. While we lag other industrialized nations in some areas like health care and true equity and equality we were moving on almost all fronts in the right direction for We the People. Until now.
With the Bone Spur Felon president and and fascism in full bloom all that changes. The focus now becomes gut regulations, give big tax breaks to corporations, take care of the oligarchs, and screw We the People.

I have never heard of a more DEI hire than a drunken, National Guard domestic abuser being elevated to run the entire military. Hegseth is actually a DUI hire.
