DEAR AMERICA, WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO YOURSELF?

The people suffering from the Pacific Palisades fires are both Democrats and Republicans!

And the convicted felon/adjudicated sexual assaulter-elect has zero interest in helping his fellow Americans.

He only wants to score political points by bashing the governor of one of our most important states.

We warned America that Trump is not a leader,; he's a criminal and has the mind of a mafia boss. He's not showing toughness; Trump is showing weakness and vengeance for perceived hurts to his overinflated ego.

Americans -- Democrats and Republicans -- are hurting, and Trump can think only of revenge.

Hottest 10 years on record happen to be the last ten years, including 2024. The Artic Circle is no longer a Carbon Dioxide sink but a maker of greenhouse gases as the tundra dries out and eventually catches fire.

Spokesperson for the Firefighters on the video said it was shocking #45-7 expressed no concern for the lives of those who have to fight the fires. Shocking? Where have they been for the past eight years?

#45-7 knows nothing of water management or the complicated history of water rights in the West. Well, there hasn't been a contract that #45-7 hasn't loved to break so why not water obligations too? I mean, what's the worst that can happen? Just death, destruction, the elimination of several species - the usual. Humanity doesn't learn and those that do are outnumbered by those trying to kill us all.

Politics - I have hope. Climate? Just listened to MAGA types extolling the virtues of the untouched landscape of Greenland and the expectation of the minerals just waiting to be ripped out of the ground. There is a type and no, they never learn better. Greed has them by the short hairs so plunder is their way.

I thought #45-7 campaigned on being a President of peace, but he's declaring war on California, Greenland, Panama, and Canada. Up truly is down.

Had a long treatise on this but figured I'd shorten it up in case a simple minded magat shows up. The Founders instituted a system of minority rule cause they believed the lower classes weren't smart enough to govern themselves. The powerful understood how to work the system to their advantage leaving millions to be manipulated into voting against their own interests. I don't know if Trump understands this or just stumbled into it.

I can't wait to see how they'll blame Democrats when their crap show blossoms into one catastrophe after another.

My daughter lived in Pacific Palisades when my grandson was young, and I visited there many times. We also know a family who are good friends with my daughter who had to evacuate their home and leave everything behind.

To hear that dishonorable and monstrous Trump defame the governor of California and ridicule his name instead of offering support and sympathy reinforces what a terrible human being devoid of any decency he is.

Shaw Kenawe said...

The Felon-elect is a failed human being and the people who voted for him will see more of his reprehensible behavior toward the people he's supposed to serve.

Dave... the chattering crazies have already started, blaming Gov Newsom, wrongly of course, for stopping CA reservoirs from being filling. Of course nothing like that happened at all. In fact in late 2023, Newsom fast tracked new lakes to store even more water for CA.

The truth is the west has been in a historic drought and uses more water on a daily basis than it gets in rainwater each year. This reality, shrinking water supplies for everything from showers to cattle feed to fire fighting impacts the state negatively every single day.

The solution is simple, right? CUT WATER USAGE.

But the biggest user is agriculture, so that can't happen, cause ppl will complain about high prices.

Better for them to look stupid and complain about the Gov and Mayor of Los Angeles.

Dave Miller said...

When hurricanes hit Florida, Pres Obama got on the phone and asked Gov DeSantis what he needed. He didn't call him names, nothing. He didn't blame the hurricane hitting Florida on the immorality of the residents of Florida.

He acted professionally, with a political rival, for the good of fellow Americans who were hurting.

Even though DeSantis had been very critical of Biden.

Why is this so hard?

skudrunner said...

You are correct Dave about the crazies. When it does rain what happens to the runoff. Hint, they send it to the ocean instead of developing water sheds to store the water for future use. You can't blame only newsom because PRK has been broken for decades.

Grey One talks sass said...

Not one pundit has mentioned the record drought hitting the West. Not one MAGA spokesperson has talked about the effects of drought with sudden rains and the mudslides it causes. The pix of homes sliding down the hillside made great clickbait for what, a minute? And now I've heard from the GOP that one only needs to collect the water to avoid these kinds of catastrophes. No mention of WHERE they get the water. Wells? The water table levels are at an historic low. Next option? The sea? That would have required funding by the whole state and I've listened to more than a few MAGA mouthpieces bragging about squashing such 'woke' ideas.

Thus far I've not lost any of my circle of people but circle adjacent? yeah.... it's going to be a hard year for so many.

Dave Miller - there are modern farming methods which use less water and provide greater yield but such methods have a high startup cost. Many of the farmers you speak of have been working the same earth for generations. I'm not sure they have the capital to make the change.

Subsidies will be necessary in order for our nation to survive this climate crisis. If we don't, well, history says the folks at Mesa Verde disappeared when the water left. Not sure that's an option with as many humans as we have here/now.

Shaw Kenawe said...

We know you meant President Biden, not Obama.

And yes, President Biden behaved like a normal president/human being when our fellow Americans were experiencing tragedy. Trump is not a mentally healthy human being, one has only to observe his behavior to understand this. The people who voted for him chose to ignore his aberrant personality and put him back in power.

We will all suffer the consequences of that enormous mistake.

Shaw Kenawe said...

I choose to believe Governor Newsom, because it is more likely that HE rather than Trump and skudrunner know the facts, not what the chattering classes say.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Thank you for your intelligent and detailed comment. It's too bad the pro-Trumpers don't know as much about the causes of these monstrous fires, and would rather listen to know-nothings and blame people and ridicule governors while their cities burn.

Trump is a indecent human being.

Shaw Kenawe said...

1 - Reservoirs and water tanks were at normal levels and completely full before the fire.

2 - All 114 city water supply tanks were fully stocked pre-fire.

3 - A 15-hour surge at four times normal demand reduced water pressure.

4 - High demand at lower elevations slowed refilling tanks at higher elevations.

5 - This unprecedented fire was fueled by 8 months of no rain and 85 MPH winds. Water is being brought in continuously.

6 - Even if, like Trump claimed, the protection of the Delta Smelt caused over regulation by California, it's the FEDERAL Endangered Species Act that requires the protection of endangered species like the Delta Smelt and their habitats, not Gavin Newsom or California.

Dave Dubya said...

Skud,
Your indifference to the victims of the fires indicates your authoritarian personality with sociopath inclinations.
Why not go all in with Trump and blame them for not "raking the forest floors"?
And water flows downhill.
Gravity, not Newsome, is the "they" in "they send it to the ocean".

skudrunner said...

And how many years if not decades has PRK had "unprecedented fires" and yet they do not build new watersheds when it is proven they need more. Ms. Shaw I am shocked you support newsom because he is a democrat politician and has managed to drive the state into further debt to provide for those who will not provide for themselves.

Dave Miller said...

Grey... this agricultural issue is huge. Numbers run like this... Upwards of 60% of the water usage in the west goes to fatten cattle. Remove that level of water usage and the Colorado River system is back in good shape.

In a desert, there is just no efficient wa6y to produce silage and feed crops on a mass scale to feed America's obsession with beef without oceans of water.

Of course, that's a diversion in the middle of a disaster. The reality is the crazies in So Cal and beyond have no idea what they are talking about. They never offer evidence or links, because they can't, and their entire thought line on this is based in their mythical understandings and feelings.

Shaw Kenawe said...

I'm laughing at your comment, skud, because you seem so bothered by Newsom "driving the state into further debt," and your repeating the right's garbage about helping those who cannot help themselves.

I would take you seriously, except for the fact that I never read a comment from you about Trump driving the country into further debt so that billionaires could amass more billions.

What is it with Trumpers who sneer at programs that help the helpless and say nothing about the billions and billions of dollars in tax breaks for the fat cats?

Why is that?

Dave Dubya said...

MAGA sociopath "Let them eat cake" Skud ignores climate change to blame Democrats and the poor.
He apparently doesn't even know the difference between a watershed and a reservoir.
A watershed is the geographical area of land from which water drains into a river, stream, or other waterbody.
Time to rake the forest floors, Skud?

skudrunner said...

You quoted me saying "your repeating the right's garbage about helping those who cannot help themselves."

But I really said "to provide for those who will not provide for themselves"
Guess you didn't catch the will not part but i am use to being misquoted.
I have no issue giving tax breaks to those who pay them be it billionaires of the 49%. How can you give tax breaks to people who do not pay taxes. That's right just give them taxes they didn't pay, good plan to lower the deficit. Just so you are clear on my opinions no president will lower the deficit because there would be an outcry by millions when we cut government employees who do nothing and cut worthless agencies to lower costs. Can you just imagine what would happen if we quit building bridges to nowhere. Won't happen.

BB-Idaho said...

Good one Skud. Maybe close down the US military? Or the Billions in Farm aid? Oh, and that awful Social Security. You should get a job with Musk.
Define 'Will not" vs "Can not". Like pulling yourself up with your bootstraps
when you are barefoot.

Dave Dubya said...

Will Skud tell us where we are "building bridges to nowhere"? Won't happen.

Grey One talks sass said...

will not
can not

World of difference there skud and I'm not entirely sure your doubling down on the difference is the look you want.

Gov Newsome helped those citizens who cannot stand on their own. Based on your calling out Shaw who was giving you the benefit of the doubt, your stance is to do... what??

Serious question, not expecting an answer but asking in good faith. So who is getting assistance that "will not provide" for themselves? What do "those" people look like skud because you're crossing lines here. Your bigotry is on full display, might want to fix that.

Tell me you know NOTHING of how State and Federal assistance works. Apparently some citizens sincerely held beliefs tell them anyone who shows up to ask for help gets moneys thrown at them by the US Government. And they get preferential treatment when they fit a DEI profile.

Sincerely held, yes. Dumber than a barn post? You betcha.

Doesn't matter if skud replies to my question. Their record of comments speaks for itself.

For the record, I am one of the many citizens who cannot provide for themselves. I live on Federal and State subsidies and until I aged into early retirement SSI (supplemental income aka welfare but with harsher requirements). I'm not alone. I live below poverty level, so far below that needs aren't always met and wants went away a long time ago. The Rolling Stones were not correct, sometimes you don't get what you need. And I worked. Not great jobs and sometimes had to hold three jobs at a time but I worked. People like skud see what they want to see not what is reality.

Grey One talks sass said...

As I remember it the Delta Smelt is a feeder fish. Losing that one tiny fish will collapse entire ecosystems. Of course skud supports the eradication of the fish.

skudrunner said...

“Could not” is a phrase that expresses that something is impossible or could not happen.
You can use both won't and will not to indicate that something is not going to happen in the future.

Simple, Grey cannot provide and needs government help or a safety net, which is what it is intended to do. Generational welfare families who have never held a job do not need the federal safety net. Persons in the country illegally should not be on the federal or state dole and don't deserve money to buy a house.

If you did some research you would find that the last water shed built was 1979
Guess they figure it is just not important. I will have to say newsom showed some stones by giving interviews even though he said water was a city issue and they will work it out. Maybe if the last democrat nominee answered a question she may have beat the evil one.

BB, I don't believe we should close down all military bases but there are many that could be combined. Farm aid to not grow a crop is a waste and SS was intended to be self supporting until politicians saw all that money they could waste.

Dave Dubya said...

Skud,
Please learn what a watershed is. You're sounding ignorant again.

skudrunner said...

1 - Reservoirs and water tanks were at normal levels and completely full before the fire.

Not according to the LA Times "Pacific Palisades reservoir was offline and empty when firestorm exploded"
So much for belief in government officials. Granted trump put the blame on the PRK government and their governor but he is not president yet so his comments were not from a sitting official. He will always call out incompetence except his own which is often.

Dave Miller said...

Couple of thoughts on Skud's post of Jan 9.

1. Is it just me, or does anyone else find it rich that Skud, who has a history of lying and willfully inserting his own interpretation of the words of others is complaining about being misquoted? Skud has attributed many words to me over the years and I've asked him for those exact quotes. To date, I'm still waiting. So sorry Skud, your track record does give you the benefit of the doubt when it comes to quotes.

2. It's also rich when Skud tells others, who typically bring receipts, links and actual evidence to do "some research". Skud, just provide the link that says "the last watershed built was [in] 1979". Since you found it originally, it should be quick, easy and painless to educate us and post it here.

3. As for tax breaks for ppl not paying taxes, many ppl work but do not make enough to have to pay taxes. Also, the small amount they make does not meet the bills. That's why GOP President's Ford, Reagan, Bush I, Bush II and even Trump have supported the Earned Income Tax credit. To help those at the bottom of our economic rung be able to put food on the table.

Hope this helps as we await Skud and his links...

Ah Skuds my good friend. It's all well and nice that right leaning folk demand more government during an emergency. Yet when there is no fire, flood or weather disaster they demand less government. Water plants are designed for peak demand. Most often they are rarely operated at that capacity. Fire hydrants are connected to the city water supply. The LA fires are demanding more water than the city can treat. Now if their water system were designed to use say, an amount that were ten times the peak historical usage and there were no fires in recent history, Skuds and friends would cry about wasting taxpayer dollars. You and your comrades like to talk out of both sides of the mouth Skuds. It's great to have extra capacity. You still need the means to pump it into the system. I'm glad that Skuds thinks, that's the message I'm getting from him/her anyway, that investing an extra ten or 20 billion in the LA water system may well be a good thing. But before the fire hit, the Skuds side has either against spending or at the most, lukewarm.

Dave Dubya said...

Now Skud conveniently ignores to mention the reservoir was offline because of needed REPAIRS! Normal fire season is May through October. Another fact he IGNORES!
So he'd prefer no maintenance be done at any time?
Pathetic.

Rev, I forget you have limited research resources "New Melones Lake in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties was the last major reservoir built in California, and it was completed in 1979. The reservoir has a capacity of up to 2.4 million acre-feet." That was by a simple google search.

As to tax breaks for ppl not paying because they don't make enough to pay, 45-49% don't pay income tax. According to CNBC "Mar 25, 2022 — The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center estimates that 57% of US households paid no federal income taxes for 2021, up substantially from the 44% before the pandemic." The average paid was 14.9% while the top earners paid 22.4%.
Fair Tax would make taxes more fair

Dave Miller said...

As usual Skud, you're wrong. Diamond Valley Lake opened in 1999, a MWD, as opposed to state project.

And currently, the state is finalizing the new Sites Resavoir project after Gov Newsom fast tracked the admittedly slow approval process.

Sites in bigger than Diamond Valley for sure. But even so, DV was a good addition to the California water system.

skudrunner said...

Rev, Sorry I missed the lake opening 26 years ago. How many years has PRK been advised to increase their capacity and not divert drainage into the ocean. Even the evil one advised them to take action and that was four years ago. Government incompetence is expected but PRK goes above just incompetence. People have lost their home insurance because of no action taken by the state to increase reserves.
LA Times
First, they lost their home insurance. Then, L.A. fires consumed their homes
