General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."

JUST IN:

The Fraternal Order of Police, the largest police union in the U.S. that endorsed Trump in the last election, has issued a statement condemning his pardon of the violent J6 rioters.

"Crimes against law enforcement are not just attacks on individuals or public safety -- they are attacks on society and undermine the rule of law. Allowing those convicted of these crimes to be released early diminishes accountability and devalues the sacrifices made by courageous law enforcement officers and their families.

When perpetrators of crimes, especially serious crimes, are not held fully accountable, it sends a dangerous message that the consequences for attacking law enforcement are not severe, potentially emboldening others to commit similar acts of violence."

By releasing the rioters/insurrectionists who beat up police and caused them permanent disabilities and, in some cases, death, Trump showed America and the world that he does not support LEOs or the rule of law.

This is a ominous start to the Felon-in-Chief's second administration.

Expect even worse lawlessness.

TRUMP PARDONED THE ARMED THUGS WHO DID THIS:

Yesterday President Trump was asked if he felt his pardoning of the J6 crowd sent the wrong message to police. He of course said no.

Apparently the FOP did not get the memo.

President Trump stated that he believed the J6 protestors had served enough time. Does the president, or do any of our conservative commenters here believe less two years in jail is sufficient for beating federal or local police officers?

Are laws in Florida, where a person who assaults a police officer gets between 3.5-15 years in prison too onerous? Tell us -FJ. Tell us Skud. Tell us Joe C. Tell us Frank, Tom, Sal and the various Anons.

Donald Trump said the sentences served, less than the Florida minimum, were sufficient, the criminals lives were harmed and it was time to let them out.

Is that a universal value, which a lot of liberals would applaud, or is this only a value of it serves Donald Trump?

Shaw, myself and many others here have, over the years, been very open when we've felt Democratic leaders and presidents were, or did wrong. Why is it GOP and MAGA partisans can't, or won't give an inch on anything related to President Trump?

Seriously, if folks want to be respect4ed, the pardon case is low hanging fruit.

It was wrong, releases violent people back into society, sends a terrible message and in the end, will encourage more, not less violence to police across the country.

BTW... we should emphasize that the group Shaw cited as endorsing Trump, the FOP is no liberal group. They strongly endorsed Trump in 2016, 2020, and again in 2024.

Why would they do that to a man they endorse?

I'll add to Dave's thoughtful comment the fact that the BLM folks who rioted and caused property damage during the George Floyd protests are still, to the best of my knowledge, serving time. Trump is quite selective in the criminals he pardons. Trump does not believe in equal pardons for all.

AP News: "It’s a common refrain from some of those charged in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol and their Republican allies: The Justice Department is treating them harshly because of their political views while those arrested during last year’s protests over racial injustice were given leniency.

Court records tell a different story.

An Associated Press review of court documents in more than 300 federal cases stemming from the protests sparked by George Floyd’s death last year shows that dozens of people charged have been convicted of serious crimes and sent to prison.

The AP found that more than 120 defendants across the United States have pleaded guilty or were convicted at trial of federal crimes including rioting, arson and conspiracy. More than 70 defendants who’ve been sentenced so far have gotten an average of about 27 months behind bars. At least 10 received prison terms of five years or more."

Shaw... here's a few of the people pardoned because they've "served anough time" according to President Trump...

Daniel Rodriguez… Admitted to using a taser numerous times to stun Officer Michael Fanone at the base of his skull. As he was leaving the court room, he expressed no regret, instead yelling “Trump won” the 2020 election, which was lie, unsupported by any evidence.

Albuquerque Cosper Head… Put Fanone in a headlock while yelling “I’ve got one” as he dragged the officer into the mob. He held Fanone down as Rodriguez and other srepeatedly tasered and beat the officer into unconsciousness.

Thomas Sibnick… While beating Fanone, Sidnick ripped the officer’s badge and radio from his uniform. Later Sibnick said “It was an attack on the institutions of our democracy and not as some would make you believe legitimate political discourse. The attack was far from peaceful, my actions played a role that will follow me for the rest of my life,”

Kyle Young… Beat Fanone when the mob had him, trying to remove his service revolver. Later Young said to Fanone "I know how much you have to hurt over what happened to you, and I am so, so sorry… If I could take it back, I would. I am not honored by what I did… I feel very ashamed.”

Each of the above admitted their crimes and pleaded guilty for their crimes against Michael Fanone, one of over 130 officers beaten that day.

Again, to our MAGA supporters here... Were those protestors over charged? Had they served enough time in prison for their crimes? Was President Trump right to pardon them. So far only Skud, alone among the conservative trolling class here has stepped up to say YES! It was wrong.

At least GA Rep Majorie Taylor Greene has the guts to step up and own her beliefs saying Yes, they all did it, but "they've served enough time." I don't agree with her at all, but at least she doesn't doesn't demure, do the Capitol BS shuffle, or post a bunch of video links rather than answer a question directly.

For that she, and Skud, get a modicum of respect.
